101 | again the events surrounding the death o | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227361
Greetings again Shahbaz, Happy Easter to you as well! If you have access to a Bible, then I strongly suggest that you read 1 Samuel chapters 28-30 before I answer your question, which was "Please describe the events surrounding the death of Saul?" And you meant: Saul, the King of Israel. Please first read 1 Samuel 28-30 and then I will answer any questions you may have after that. Blessings to you, Makarios |

102 | What is the root word of love | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 227788
Greetings Lanet, You asked, "What does it mean "the Bible uses the root word of Love 500 times"? What is the root word of Love?" I have "The Strongest Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible", and found that the word 'love' appears in the KJV 310 times, 'love's' only once, 'loved' 98 times, 'lovedst' twice, 'lovely' 4 times, 'lover' 4 times, 'lovers' 23 times, 'loves' 3 times, 'lovest' 12 times, 'loveth' 65 times, and 'loving' 3 times. Of all of these occurrences, the vast majority of the Hebrew entries have the Hebrew word 'ahab' present, but there are others also, like 'hasaq' (Deut. 7:7). Of the Greek, the vast majority stem from either 'agapao' or 'agape', but there are others also, like 'phileo' (John 21:15). So, even though the Bible does refer to "love" more than 500 times, there are several Hebrew and Greek words that are used throughout the Bible to convey love within the context of the passages. Blessings to you, Makarios |

105 | what do JW and Mormons believe | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 228681
Greetings Legsrandall, You asked, "Do the Mormons and the Jehovah's Witnesses believe Jesus Christ and satan are brothers?" The Mormons definitely do: see http://www.bible-truth.org/jesusbro.htm or http://www.suite101.com/content/are-jesus-and-satan-brothers-a38726. The Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus was Michael the Archangel and they also believe that Jesus is not co-equal in Deity with God the Father (http://christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-r005.html). The Biblical doctrine of the Trinity shows these cults for what they are - false teaching being used by Satan to lead the world astray from the truth. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Gospelpearl, I regret to inform you that I have not been able to find the words "singing" and "school" together in the same verse in the entire text of the New American Standard Bible, the New King James Version, the English Standard Version, the King James Version, or the New International Version of the Bible. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Searcher, Nowhere in Colossians 3:16 are the words "school" and "song" together. In fact, there is absolutely no place in the Bible that I can find that even begins to mention a "song school".. Makarios |

Greetings Rican, As for Spanish Bibles, I know that there is the Spanish La Biblia de las Americas and the Spanish Nueva Biblia de los Hispanos, both sponsored by the Lockman Foundation, who also sponsor this website. As for other Spanish Bibles, I know that there is the Spanish Reina-Valera (that you could probably pick up at any Bible Bookstore), and the Spanish Sagradas Escrituras. You can download all four of these Spanish Bibles (the last two mentioned are free) off of http://www.e-sword.net. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Agnostic, You ask: "Do you believe in God? If so, then why?" I assume that you are asking this as a personal question. Therefore, I will try to answer you in a personal way. Believing in God and knowing that He exists has completely changed my life and my perspective on everything! When I first became saved, I thought to myself: what is the meaning behind life? Why are we here? What real purpose is there for living life? And, if we were created by a higher being, then why? We live in this world and attempt to attain wealth, social standing, possibly a family, or anything really that you aspire to or enjoy.. But after you have obtained wealth, after you have gained popularity, after you have a family and every thing that you could ever want, then what next? What next after that? For me, there had to be something else that was elusive to me - something that means so much more than mere obtaining, and something that I could not aspire to on my own that was at the time completely beyond my grasp. Well, that "thing" that was beyond my grasp before I was saved was the Lord Jesus Christ. And knowing Him in a personal way has not only proven to me that I need Him, but it has also proven to me that He really does exist, and everything written about Him in Scripture is the truth. I found that the purpose for humanity living and existing is to have a personal relationship with the One who was responsible for our creation in the first place, Jesus Christ. To know Jesus in a personal way is much more than just following rules, experiencing a "high", or going to church and reading your Bible. Knowing Jesus in a personal way is having a relationship with Christ that grows in a real way. And anyone, even you, could have a spiritual relationship with Christ if they consciously make the decision of your own volition to let Him into your life! And He will show His love towards you and give you an overwhelming sense of hope and worth that you will never know unless you let Him into your life. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but I certainly can tell you that Jesus lives, beyond any shadow of a doubt! If you would like to see other Christian testimonies of coming to salvation, I invite you to surf to: http://www.christiantestimonies.org/ Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Jobeth! Would this be for New Testament Survey? A very good book that I can recommend on Spiritual Warfare is "3 Crucial Questions about Spiritual Warfare" by Clinton E. Arnold, 1997, Baker Books (http://www.bakerbooks.com) ISBN 0-7394-0056-8. As for help on your paper, as long as you remain within the Biblical context of each scripture reference that you cite, you should be Ok. Blessings to you, Makarios |

114 | srry i dont see the blue letter | Bible general Archive 3 | Makarios | 159288
Greetings Lil_kea13, I've noticed that your question has been up all day.. I have owned many Bibles, but I have never owned one that had "blue lettering." I've owned Bibles that have had black letters in them, and some even have had red letters in them. But I have never had a Bible with blue letters in it. Therefore, even if Bows44 does get mad at you for not having a "blue letter bible", there is a very good and useful website called "http://www.blueletterbible.org" that one can go to to learn more about the Bible! :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Bows44! Your post to Lil_kea13 was certainly explanatory enough in showing how one views another's Forum profile, but if you insist, I will give it a shot if Lil_kea13 continues to have difficulty. Perhaps with two people providing suggestions, it will be made more clear. :-) Lil_kea13, if you are viewing a post on the Forum homepage (the first page that appears when you log onto the Forum), and you would like to view the profile of the author of a particular post, then go all the way up to the top of that post, and simply click on the author's name. If you would like to read the profile of, say, Bows44, then simply click on "Bows44" and the next page that you view will be the user's profile. Blessings to you, Makarios |

116 | are there any persecutions of christians | Bible general Archive 3 | Makarios | 160818
Greetings Steentay, The Bible tells us to pray for all of the Christians in the world who are being oppressed and suffering persecution because of their faith in the Lord (Hebrews 13:3, Matthew 25:34-40, Matthew 5:10, 1 Peter 3:13-17, 1 Peter 4:12-14). There are a few very good internet websites where we can read, learn, and even participate in remembering those who are currently suffering in Jesus's name: (http://www.persecution.com, http://www.christianpersecution.info/). A lot of persecution and Christian suffering is brought on by the hands of anti-Christian groups and governments that are seeking to proselytize their peoples in a militaristic way, forcing them to choose to follow a specific religion. In the United States of America, we largely have the freedom of following whichever creed that we care to follow, as long as that creed does not violate the freedom of another. But there are many in this world who live in places that are not tolerant of religious freedoms, and people who are Christians suffer at the hands of those who fear the spread of Christianity. But Christianity has never been something that should stay with one person, but to be spread and communicated and translated to everything and everyone. Most Christians are not as informed about Christian persecution that is happening in the greater world. But in today's society, and with the coming of the internet, we now have the means of being able to be more aware of what is happening, and be able to make a difference through the websites that I have mentioned above, and through prayer, which has always been the most important service that we can render to those in persecution. Blessings to you, Makarios |

119 | How did 1st century Rome affect Israel? | Bible general Archive 3 | Makarios | 160826
Greetings Seeker08, After Jesus ascended into heaven, the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, and Christianity began to spread throughout the world. Christianity faced so many obstacles in the 1st century, but as the church grew, it became apparent that the efforts by the Jewish leaders to suppress the Christian faith helped it to spread as the scattered church gained new converts wherever the disciples went (Acts 11:19). The Christian base was no longer Jerusalem (Acts 3), but moved to Antioch (Acts 11:20,22,26,27), and to many other cities as the disciples spead. Paul was a unique apostle because he was a Roman citizen, and therefore was able to travel throughout the entire Roman Empire, delivering the Gospel wherever he went, and growing the church. In this era of Pax Romana, or peace, Christianity was able to thrive as ideas were exchanged and Roman citizens who were converts to Christianity were able to share their faith. Perhaps the early Roman attitude towards Christianity was much like that of Gamaliel, who in Acts 5:34-39 suggested that the Jews simply leave the Christians alone and give this new 'Way' time to flame out. But Christianity would not die, but only grow in leaps and bounds and eventually conquer the Roman Empire itself. At first Christianity must have seemed just another new religion from the Near East, one among many. The birth of this new religion did not seem that important to Rome - it was merely seen as a local sensation in an obscure and backward province. And the Romans would deal with what they DID see as a problem - a newfound Jewish nationalism - that would efficiency be dealt with in the Jewish War of 66-70 A.D. The Romans destroyed the Jewish Temple, and now today all that is left standing of the Jewish Temple is the western wall. The Roman Empire normally tolerated religions, as long as their adherents were willing to sacrifice to the emperor. But Christianity was eventually able to make great gains within Roman society. As Christianity grew, it quickly became illegal, since Christians would worship God alone, and not the emperor. In A.D. 64, the Roman emperor Nero burned to death many Christians, beginning a great persecution of Christianity that would last until 313 A.D., which is when Christianity became officially 'tolerated' by the Roman Empire. As long as Christianity remained illegal, Christians were at the mercy of imperial disfavor and unpopularity. But fortunately, no emperor regarded Christianity as much of a threat to institute a systematic, empire-wide campaign against them until 249 A.D. There were, however, a number of local, temporary persecutions and many, many martyrs up until that time. But Christianity would grow in spite of persecution, and end up being victorious in Roman society. Blessings to you, Makarios |

120 | Baptist/Pentecostal | Bible general Archive 3 | Makarios | 161077
Greetings Joyous4U, The words "pentecostal" and "baptist" describe a great many peoples, groups and congregations that may or may not follow specific tenets of faith that are shared by others that call themselves "baptist" or "pentecostal." There are so many groups! But to compare two of the larger groups, or denominations, that call themselves "baptist" or "pentecostal": The Baptist Statement of Faith of the Southern Baptist Convention (the largest Baptist group) can be found at http://www.baptist2baptist.net/, or more specifically, http://www.sbc.net/bfm/bfm2000.asp The Statement of Faith of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God of America can be found at http://www.paga.org/statemen.htm By comparing the two websites above, hopefully you will be able to gain a good grasp of the differences in the beliefs of baptists and pentecostals. Blessings to you, Makarios |
