Bible Question:
What does it mean "the Bible uses the root word of Love 500 times"? What is the root word of Love? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Lanet, You asked, "What does it mean "the Bible uses the root word of Love 500 times"? What is the root word of Love?" I have "The Strongest Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible", and found that the word 'love' appears in the KJV 310 times, 'love's' only once, 'loved' 98 times, 'lovedst' twice, 'lovely' 4 times, 'lover' 4 times, 'lovers' 23 times, 'loves' 3 times, 'lovest' 12 times, 'loveth' 65 times, and 'loving' 3 times. Of all of these occurrences, the vast majority of the Hebrew entries have the Hebrew word 'ahab' present, but there are others also, like 'hasaq' (Deut. 7:7). Of the Greek, the vast majority stem from either 'agapao' or 'agape', but there are others also, like 'phileo' (John 21:15). So, even though the Bible does refer to "love" more than 500 times, there are several Hebrew and Greek words that are used throughout the Bible to convey love within the context of the passages. Blessings to you, Makarios |
