102 | luke 8:39 and 8:56 difference?? | Luke 8:39 | mark d seyler | 179705
Hi Sally, Jesus sent this formerly demon-possessed man out to proclaim the good news of what Jesus had done. There was also a time that He sent His disciples out to proclaim the gospel (Matt 10, for example). But as you said, there were other times that Jesus told people to not tell. There was one time recorded that the one healed did tell, and Jesus couldn't go back into the cities because He would get so mobbed (Mark 1:45). Without being given greater detail in the Scripture, we can only conjecture, but I think we can safely say that it was because the results of them telling what had happened would conflict with His ministry, whether it be a premature proclaimation of His Messiahship, or simply that He would have been overrun with people while there was a shy one in the corner He was being sent to. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

103 | satan , was he leader of Praise | Ezek 28:13 | mark d seyler | 179344
Hi iiw, Some have taught this based on Ezek 28:13 "You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The ruby, the topaz and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx and the jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were created They were prepared. "Settings and Sockets" have also been translated "Pipes and Timbrels", we might say "Flutes and Tamborines". I am not aware of any other Scripture that is used to teach this. I do not find this passage convincing of that, although as I follow the word usage in the Old Testament, I can't rule it out. But the context does seem to refer to the jemstones that were Satan's covering, rather than musical instruments. It just seems to be a lot to build out of so little, although, as you already know, some have different opinions. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi David, To my knowledge, the word that was used for "murder" doesn't specify one's self or others, it is simply the unjustified taking of life. Suicide is taking into your own hands what God reserves for Himself, and is sin. I've answered your questions - please answer mine, so that I can best help you. Love in Christ, Mark |

106 | Did the Apostles have a choice? | Luke 5:8 | mark d seyler | 179216
I believe the apostles did have a choice. Peter's first response to Jesus was, (Luke 5:8) "Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!" Paul wrote Timothy, (1 Tim 2:3-4) "This (prayers) is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." Paul further wrote, (Titus 2:11) "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men," Everyone has the opportunity. God desires all to be saved. And people respond as they want to. Peter wanted to follow Jesus, but he was afraid. Jesus reassured Peter's fear, and Peter followed Jesus to the death. Unless you believe you will be destroyed. Do you believe? Love in Christ, Mark |

107 | how can you beforgivin? | NT general Archive 1 | mark d seyler | 179213
Hi David, We don't live in day by day, minute by minute cycles of sin-repentance-salvation. Those who are saved, who are justified, are born again. Just as if you lie to your friends, even a small lie, then drop of a heart attack in the next moment, you do not lose salvation because of your lie, so if you self-murder, you so not lose salvation because you had no further opportunity to pray and confess. The redeemed are justified of all sins, past, present, and future, and while we are commanded to "go and sin no more", there is none of us that perfectly keeps that command, is there? We do not have liscense to sin, but neither will we lose salvation because we sin. But of course, if someone is not saved, and they suicide, they will not have any further opportunity to receive Jesus. Do you know someone who has committed suicide? Are you considering suicide? 108 | characterisitics of a strongman | Eph 6:10 | mark d seyler | 179209
I guess that no one has an anwser to this! None is strong before the LORD. We need His strength. Isaiah 49 24 "Can the prey be taken from the mighty man, Or the captives of a tyrant be rescued?" 25 Surely, thus says the LORD, "Even the captives of the mighty man will be taken away, And the prey of the tyrant will be rescued; For I will contend with the one who contends with you, And I will save your sons. 110 | Numbers 14:29 is this the age of acc...? | Acts 16:31 | mark d seyler | 179206
Hi Russ, I don't think that there is the Scriptural foundation to apply this generally, beyond the specific event at the time. I know many people have pointed to this passage as an indicator of an "age of accountability", but we can only arrive at that if we presuppose God's reason for choosing age 20 and above for the census. It would be an age of accountability IF God had them number only those who were accountable. But what if God had them number those who were of fighting age? Those who were of "voting age"? We have an "age of majority", where we hold people legally accountable for their actions, and we only allow those people to vote. Maybe this was something like that, and God only held responsible the "voting population", but this was unrelated to whether or not someone was able to distinguish right from wrong, and God's requirement that they do what is right. I'm just saying we don't know, because the information isn't given in the text. What do you think? Love in Christ, Mark |

111 | Choosing warriors by how they drink | Judg 7:4 | mark d seyler | 179186
Hi Fenner1, I think this is what you are looking for: Judges 7:4-5 Then the LORD said to Gideon, "The people are still too many; bring them down to the water and I will test them for you there. Therefore it shall be that he of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go." So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, "You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink." I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

113 | Who are Abraham's offspring? | NT general Archive 1 | mark d seyler | 179177
Hi pkreichard, You've asked the economy question, because there are actually four answers: 1. There are all of Abraham's physical descendents: Gen 25:9 Then his sons Isaac and Ishmael . . . 2. There are Isaac and his descendants: Heb 11:18 it was he to whom it was said, "IN ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS SHALL BE CALLED." 3. There are the children of faith: Gal 3:29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, 4: There is Christ Jesus: Gal 3:16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ. May we all be found in Him! Love in Christ, Mark |

114 | Why no genealogy in Mark | Mark | mark d seyler | 179176
Hi Marlise, As I, and many others, have considered the differences between the gospels, there appears to be a certain consistency in their differences. The genealogies are a useful place to show this difference, although this appears throughout the gospels. These differences are also especially clear in the prophetic passages also, but again, are throughout the gospels. Matthew shows Jesus to be the Son of David, and presents Jesus as the King of Isael. Matthew wrote primarily to the Jews in Israel. Matthew's chief ministry in his apostleship was to them. Luke shows Jesus to be the Son of Adam, and presents Jesus as the Savior of the world. Luke wrote primarily to the gentiles, and the world in general. Luke's chief ministry in his life was in evangelizing the world, often working with Paul on his journeys. John shows Jesus to be the Son of God, and presents Jesus as the Shepherd of the children of God. John wrote primarily to those being saved. John's chief ministry in his apostleship was to the church. Now, I am not saying that these gospels don't have relevance to everyone - they do, and we learn from all Scripture. But it is equally true that certain Scripture is given to some, and applies to them. A simple example is Matt 19, as Jesus teaches of marraige. "Not all can accept this teaching, but only those to whom it was given," Jesus said. But back to Mark. It is commonly believed that Mark wrote Peter's recollections. There is some debate over that, as there is over most anything, but I accept that to be correct. Peter's chief ministry in his apostleship was to the Jews, but those of the diaspora: Peter 1:1 "Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who reside as aliens, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia," Mark gives no genealogy, and portrays Jesus as the Servant. The genealogy of the servant is considered irrelevant. Mark wrote primarily to the Jews outside of their homeland. They are disconnected from their root, as Jesus is shown without root. While many try to "harmonize" the gospels, blending them together, I believe that the Holy Spirit wrote each one differently for a purpose, and I find a beautiful harmony in that! I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

115 | how can we know children go to heaven? | Acts 16:31 | mark d seyler | 179145
Hi Zach, There is some disagreement over whether they do or do not. I believe that the answer is found in Romans 5: Paul takes us through a simple(?) progression. Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned-- All people born have inherited Adam's fallen nature, and all will sin, and all will die. Rom 5:13 for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. But until the Law was given, sin was not imputed, and here a principle is given. Sin is not imputed when there is no law. Rom 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. The only law that had been given was the prohibition against eating of the tree in the center of the garden, and no one could do that because the way was blocked. But people still died, because sin kills. Sin is intrinsically wrong. I'd like to go through this whole passage, but neither time nor space will permit me to. So skipping to the most relevant verse to our discussion: Rom 5:18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. Jesus atoned for original sin. Some people will hotly dispute this, so take care to study the Word for yourself. Through Adam's one sin, condemnation spread to all men. Through Jesus' one act of righteousness, justification of life went to all men. This is fundamental. This is not talking about salvation. The next verse is talking about salvation, and correctly says "many", while this verse says "all": Rom 5:19 For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. Verse 19 tells us "many" will be made righteous. Verse 18 tells us that "all" received "justification of life", and this is compared to the condemnation that followed from Adam. If verse 18 were of salvation, that would be teaching universal salvation which we know is not true. There is a universal condemnation towards everyone, but there is also a universal justification towards everyone. So two points are established here that have great relevence to your question. One is that Jesus atoned for original sin, and therefore, original sin is not accounted against you. That leaves you with another big problem, your own sin. But this passage also says that sin is not imputed, or counted against you, when there hasn't been Law given. Basically, God does not count against us that which He hasn't told us not to do. I hope I am expressing this clearly! Now, we know that there are two ways the Law is given, one through the written Word, and the other written on men's hearts: Rom 2:14-15 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, This is where we come to the so-called "age of accountability". We understand this to be that age at which one understands the requirements of the Law. Breaking the Law after this point in a person's life results in the imputing of sin against them. Before this time sin is not imputed. As the angel announced Jesus' birth, he said "He will save His people from their sins." - not another's sins. Luke 18:16 But Jesus called for them, saying, "Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. At the great white throne judgment, the dead will be judged according to their works, not anothers. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

120 | my friend talks to the passed is it true | Deut 18:11 | mark d seyler | 179091
God forbids such behavior, so whether it is possible or not is moot. Deut 18:10 "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, Deut 18:11 or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. Deut 18:12 "For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you. |
