101 | make no images,why cherubs on ark | Ex 20:4 | humbledbyhisgrace | 201729
Shofar, God did not say, "make no image". His word says “You, shall not make for yourself…” (Exodus 20:4 NASB). His commandment is speaking to idolatry. The creation of the ark was also commanded by God. He did not direct it to be created for mankind to worship it, rather it was created for Him! See Exodus 25:1-22. There is no contradiction in God! Agreed? Steve |

102 | Ex 33:11 contradicts Ex 33:20, Why? | Ex 33:11 | humbledbyhisgrace | 156217
Hey aapril1124, If you would, go back up and read verse 33:9. This is what Moses saw. God appeared to Moses as a pillar of cloud. Also, Read Exodus 19:9. How does the Lord tell Moses He will come to him on Mount Sinai? Also, read Exodus 19:18-19 - This explains how God revealed Himself on Mount Sinai. Hopefully, this along with Makarios's and Doc's post will help. |

104 | The sin offering - why a female lamb? | Lev 4:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 179236
Greetings Apollos! Here is a portion of Ray Steadman's take on it. You can view more information on his sermon here http://www.pbc.org/library/files/html/0505.html "The first distinctive of the sin offering is that it provided for both public and private sin. There were offerings available for those who had sinned as a group, and those who had sinned as individuals. You find this clearly delineated in this chapter. When it was offered for the sin of a group, or a public individual representing a group, then the offering always had to be a male. When it was an individual sin, the animal was a female. Verses 1-3:" And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to the people of Israel, if any one sins unwittingly in any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and he does any one of them, if it is the anointed priest who sins, thus bringing guilt on the people, then let him offer for the sin which he has committed a young bull without blemish to the LORD for a sin offering." (Lev 4:1-3 RSV) "And, again, in Verses 13-14:" "If the whole congregation of Israel commits a sin unwittingly and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they do any one of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done and are guilty; when the sin which they have committed becomes known, the assembly shall offer a young bull for a sin offering and bring it before the tent of meeting;" (Lev 4:13-14 RSV) "In the case of a ruler or king, the requirement is given in Verses 22-23: " "When a ruler sins, doing unwittingly any one of all the things which the LORD his God has commanded not to be done, and is guilty, if the sin which he has committed is made known to him, he shall bring as his offering a goat, a male without blemish," (Lev 4:22-23 RSV) "But then when the common people sinned as individuals, Verses 27-28:" "If any one of the common people sins unwittingly in doing any one of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and is guilty, when the sin which he has committed is made known to him he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without blemish, for his sin which he has committed." (Lev 4:27-28 RSV) "In Verse 32 another provision is made:" "If he brings a lamb as his offering for a sin offering, he shall bring a female without blemish," (Lev 4:32 RSV) "So once again the distinction is made between the male, as the symbol of the ruler or the dominant one -- i.e., man in his right to have dominion over all things, as always symbolized by any functionary, any government official (a priest, a ruler, a king, etc.), or the whole group together -- and the female, as the symbol of the common person, the individual acting on his own, who is therefore in a relationship of support, of undergirding or following." 107 | Do homosexual tendencys constitute sin? | Lev 20:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 185091
Greetings Hobbs! James 1:14-15 (NASB) 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. The temptation is not sin but it does reveal the sinful nature in my opinion. The lust spoken of in James 1:14 begins within the person. There is ownership here that points to the source of the temptation being the person. Our own lust entices us. We tempt ourselves with our own evil desires. So when our own lust has conceived it is then we move from the temptation to sin. The big question is at what point does this take place? I'm not so sure I know how to answer that one correctly but I'm going to put my thoughts on it out there. It's one of those areas I'm not so sure I can put my finger on so to speak but would be interested in hearing your thoughts or others thoughts on the question. So, considering this passage of scripture and the question "Do homosexual tendencies constitute sin?" I would think that if one can be tempted by homosexual tendency then his sinful nature harbors lust for such a thing. As I understand it, I would also think that the lust is conceived and gives birth to the sin long before the homosexual act occurs. Your thoughts? God bless, Steve |

strts5, In all things, regardless of what it is the fist place you should go is before God and seek His guidance! Read Ephesians 2:1-12 and then ask yourself the same question, "will He help me?" 109 | When were marriages first documented ? | Deut 24:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 207139
Greetings fellowlaborer, I love the user name! (Luke 10:2)! I don’t have anything to offer in the way of information regarding the paper work your looking for at this time but I would like to offer this. Perhaps your approach should be to point them to the fact marriage is not based on paper work but rather it is an institution ordained by God! Genesis 2:24 (NASB) “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.“ An interesting fact is there was not mention of divorce or paper work etc… until after the fall of man. God’s institution of marriage was to last a life time! Hope this helps! God bless, Steve |

110 | Saying "AMEN"...outloud? | Deut 27:20 | humbledbyhisgrace | 187652
Greetings mouse! It is biblical brother/sister (?) And I don't doubt your motivation when saying it is right on target! Amen away and may those around you see the joy God has put in your heart! Here is a little more info that may help with your question. Hope this helps! AMEN Transliteration of Hebrew word signifying something as certain, sure and valid, truthful and faithful. It is sometimes translated “so be it.” In the OT it is used to show the acceptance of the validity of a curse or an oath (Num. 5:22; Deut. 27:15-26; Jer. 11:5), to indicate acceptance of a good message (Jer. 28:6), and to join in a doxology in a worship setting to affirm what has been said or prayed (1 Chron. 16:36; Neh. 8:6; Ps. 106:48). “Amen” may confirm what already is, or it may indicate a hope for something desired. In Jewish prayer “amen” comes at the end as an affirmative response to a statement or wish made by others, and is so used in the NT epistles (Rom. 1:25; 11:36; 15:33; 1 Cor. 16:24; Gal. 1:5; Eph. 3:21; Phil. 4:20). Paul ended some of his letters with “amen” (Rom. 6:27; Gal.:18). Ancient authorities add “amen” in other letters, but translations reflect this only in their notes. In the Gospels Jesus used “amen” to affirm the truth of His own statements. English translations often use “verily,” “truly,” “I tell you the truth” to translate Jesus’ “amen.” He never said it at the end of a statement but always at the beginning: “Amen, I say to you” (Matt. 5:18; 16:28; Mark 8:12; 11:23; Luke 4:24; 21:32; John 1:51; 5:19). In John’s Gospel Jesus said “Amen, amen.” That Jesus prefaced His own words with “amen” is especially important, for He affirmed that the kingdom of God is bound up with His own person and emphasized the authority of what He said. Jesus is called “the Amen” in Rev. 3:14, meaning that He Himself is the reliable and true witness of God. Perhaps the writer had in mind Isa. 65:16 where the Hebrew says “God of Amen.” -Roger L. Greetings! Paste this number in the search box in the upper right hand corner of the page. This post on the subject may be helpful to you. Also, you can do a search on the word "cremation" and find many other post on the subject that might also be helpful in understanding this subject. By the way, don't believe everything you hear on TV! Even if it is a "minister"! I make no claims about the minister you speak of because I don't even know who you are talking about. But you can see many on the TV today who are clearly false prophets and contradict the word of God on a regular basis! God bless, Steve |

Greetings richman766 ! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! This is spoken of again in 2 Kings 20:8-11. Neither passage speaks to time changing. Only the shadow on the stairway! To go any further then that is beyond what scripture teaches on the matter. 2 Kings 20:8-11 (NASB) 20:8 Now Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD the third day?" 20:9 Isaiah said, "This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?" 20:10 So Hezekiah answered, "It is easy for the shadow to decline ten steps; no, but let the shadow turn backward ten steps." 20:11 Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD, and He brought the shadow on the stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz. 117 | How to save a non-bible believer? | Ps 3:8 | humbledbyhisgrace | 162322
Hello Helen, God bless you and praise God for your desire! Trust in Him and hold to the word of God even if your friend has trouble accepting it. Below are a few verses I've shared with the College and Career Sunday School class I teach. I've started teaching them as a side lesson every Sunday on how to articulate the gospel to others. I used these verses in our first lesson to help build their confidence in God's word. My prayer is that they will gain confidence in God's word and understand the power in it and that this will help them when sharing the gospel with others. I pray this will do the same for you. Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Isaiah 55:11 "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”. Romans 10:17 says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. As Doc pointed out, salvation is a gift from God. We cannot give it to anyone. But we can do what God has commanded us to and that is to share the gospel with others and we can pray. When sharing the gospel with others keep these verses in your heart. Be confident in His word! God Bless, Steve |

118 | Do you believe in God? If so, then why? | Ps 19:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 158163
Agnostic, your looking for proof here it is. The first importance delivered to us by an eye witness who once not only doubted as you do but also persecuted the church. I point this out so one, you know what is of first importance and two so that you can see there is hope for you and for all nonbelievers. 1 Corinthians 15:3-10 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. Also, you may want to read the book of Ecclesiastes. This is a good example of someone that had it all and spent his time searching for meaning. His discoveries along the way and in the end should help clear things up for you. You have attempted to make a point about what an Agnostic is. The truth is, it does not matter which one you are, agnostic or atheist. A nonbeliever is a nonbeliever. It doesn't even matter how good or moral a nonbeliever might be. Many tend to think atheist and agnostics are bad people. Some are and some are not. At least from man's point of view. The point is neither will be saved without accepting Christ. In case your interested in how to receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour, read Romans 10:9. I pray you do this! PS. There is no safety in the middle. Revelation 3:16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. And yes, I believe in God and I believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that the only way to be saved is through Him. I believe this because of what we are taught through God's word and it has been confirmed to me through the complete change in me that has taken place after accepting Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I believe this because of the void inside everyone of us without Christ was filled and made complete in me the day I accepted Christ. |

119 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | humbledbyhisgrace | 190543
Greetings Crossroads1! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! You know there are so many subjects that could be preached on but the fist thing that came to my mind was the sovereignty of God. Don't think you could cover it all in one sermon but you could get the point across! Maybe you could spend some time pointing out to the church who it is that calls us into service and who it is that gives the gifts to us and what the purpose of the gifts are. Perhaps your pastor and the "sideliner" both need to be reminded of this! You really leave a lot open for speculation with so little detail. I don't say that seeking more information only to say this situation to me doesn't sound like it can be resolved in a forum like this. Sounds like to me the church needs to ensure God is at the center of everything it is doing. If not look for more trouble down the road! Seek Him out brother, lift Him up before the congregation and stand firm against any evil that attempts to divide His people!!! There's another good subject, "Recognizing evil". How many Christians have trouble doing that? God bless, Steve |

120 | What is your favorite Bible edition? | Ps 119:105 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182787
Greetings Brother! I have different favorites :-) KJV - Cambridge - Presented to me when I was 15 by my Grandparents. 27 years latter when I was given the gift of salvation from our Lord I ran home, dug it out of storage as I realized it was God's written word to mankind. I finally picked it up and made good use of it. It's my favorite for sentimental reasons! UNASB - Thin Line - Red Letter - Zondervan - Contains OT and NT, Concordance, Promises from the Bible, Perspectives from the Bible - This is my most used bible. I really like the NASB! I have several study bibles but my favorite is the ESV Reformation Study Bible - Ligonier Ministries - High quality, very well made, almost too nice to use :-) I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up! I couldn't do it justice so take a look around this site for more details of the features etc... http://www.reformationstudybible.com/ Actually, I do use it as what is inside is soooooo much more valuable then the appearance! Praise God for His word! By Faith, Steve |
