81 | God sanctions murder of the innocent? | Genesis | humbledbyhisgrace | 162169
If God does something then it goes without saying it is godly. Regardless if we agree or disagree with it. Everything God does can in no way be considered anything but godly. Surly mankind is not the determining factor in what is and is not godly. After all, what do we know other then what is given to us by God Himself? (1 Corinthians 2:11-14 ) You say "People can argue that God really didn't mean for Abraham to kill Isaac, yet obviously Abraham killing Isaac would have been the right thing to do, so there is no difference". The difference is you forget it is God you are talking about. If God had intended for Abraham to kill Isaac, Abraham would have killed Isaac. End of story! It's obvious that was not God's intention. I pray I'm wrong but from many of your statements in your post on this subject it appears that you somehow believe that God's righteousness, justice, and actions somehow depends on mankind's determination of what is ethical and or who is innocent. Exactly where and when was man given the authority to judge God's actions and / or determine if and when God was godly or not? |

82 | How can we know it's God? | Genesis | humbledbyhisgrace | 162182
We call Him good because He is the very essence of good. The word of God tells us He is the only one that can be called good (Matthew 19:17). We (mankind) have a tendency to see things only as man can see them. In doing so, we even tend to believe that our standards or interpretation of them somehow applies to God. We tend to forget that all men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We are the created not the creator. We are a corrupt creature unable to save ourselves and unable to even know the things of God without His help. So if anyone is wrong in what is good and not good it is mankind not God. God has no trouble understanding His ways. Mankind is the one with a problem understanding. You ask "Secondly, if we believe in a just God, how can he kill innocent children"? Here is a good example of what I mentioned above. You have determined on your own who is innocent and who is not. On what authority do we say that what God has done is evil? As I said, mankind has a tendency to apply our interpretation of good and evil, right or wrong, etc... to God. Where is your proof the children were innocent? Is this not mankind's own interpretation of innocents? How do you know when a life is taken that it is not God's way of sparing the person from something even worse. I personally don't know one way or the other. What I do know is that God is God, He knows what He is doing, He has the power to do it and I trust in that. If I have trouble understanding the ways of God I don't dare question Him nor think I have a place in correcting Him on anything. I for one am thankful God does not live up to our standards. If that were the case we would be in big trouble! In regards to the Bin Laden thing it goes without saying that he can only do what he is allowed to do. So it is with you and so it is with me. Take a look at the book of Job. Notice the sovereignty of God. God allowed satan to do the things he did to Job but he limited him on what he could and could not do (i.e. take his wealth, take his family, take his health, but do not touch his life!). He is in complete control regardless if we understand it all or not. Also, the god Bin Laden wars for is not the God you are trying to understand. |

85 | Did God create Life? | Gen 1:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 161234
The scriptures teach us that our God is a living God. Here are a few for reference. Joshua 3:10 I Thessalonians 1:9 Matthew 16:16 Psalm 84:2 Exodus 3:14 God is eternal. God always has been and always will be God (Psalm 90:2). Everything that God is, has always been and will always be. God was not created therefore life has always been because life itself is a part of God. Life itself originates with God. He is the source of life. Now, as others have gracefully pointed out to you, God created the heavens and earth and all things there in. So all living things that were created, were created by God and one of the attributes of those creations was life. In other words, God used life as a part of His creations, therefore creating living things. I hope this helps! Steve |

DL, First it must be noted that your suggestion is not the moral standard. God Himself cannot be immoral because morality reflects the character of God. It is that which contradicts His character that is immoral. Mankind does not determine morality. Your point that "Children starving as the highest evil, all of us sinning as a lower evil." is indicative of a faulty view of morality. It is the act of sinning (i.e. immorality) that contradicts the character of God not the children starving. Your argument of what is moral and immoral has no foundation in truth or authority. It is a subjective argument that defeats itself. First, you determine that it is a moral issue with God because the children are starving. That in and of itself reveals the lack of authority behind the moral in which you try to establish. It is no longer a moral reflective of God's character but rather that of a fallen man (i.e. you). It becomes relative, no longer objective, no longer transcendent, no longer authoritative, and no longer universal. Your self proclaimed moral is based on what you as fallen man determines in your own heart as right and wrong. It has now become relative. For example, your argument for your moral position is based on a question can God do miracles. You have not even established in your argument if God can or cannot do miracles. Yet without even acknowledging that He can, you set out to then determine Him immoral because He does not measure up to your unauthoritative relative moral standard. And you would have us not follow God but you and this is the argument you have to offer as why? Please! Psalms 52:1, Psalms 119:68, Psalms 33:5, Psalms 145:9, Nahum 1:7, Romans 2:4, 1 John 1:5 "When others behave badly to us, it should only stir us up the more heartily to give thanks unto the Lord, because He is good; and when we ourselves are conscious that we are far from being good, we should only the more reverently bless Him that He is good. We must never tolerate an instant's unbelief as to the goodness of the Lord; whatever else may be questioned, this is absolutely certain, that Jehovah is good; His dispensations may vary, but His nature is always the same" -- C. H. Spurgeon Steve |

89 | Did we have a choice in our creation? | Gen 2:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 185980
Greetings muller! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. Short answer is NO! See the first couple of chapters of Genesis for an account of the creation. Why would you think we had a choice in our creation? |

90 | It is taught that God gives free will to | Gen 2:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 186061
Greetings muller! To my knowledge I know of no place in scripture that teaches us God is required to do anything. Don't confuse that statement with things that God has ordained He will do. I would encourage you to consider and study first and foremost the sovereignty of God. Don's stop there, do a study on the doctrine of God. If you ever wish to understand and put the created (mankind) in proper perspective it will need to be measured with what the Creator (God) has revealed of Himself through His word and His creation. God bless, Steve |

91 | Are Human Beings responsible for Sin..? | Gen 2:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 178598
Were they punished for "knowing" good and evil or for disobedience to God? Genesis 2:16-17 16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die. Did they even have to know the difference between good and evil to know what the cost would be? |

92 | Sexual Sin Follow up | Gen 2:18 | humbledbyhisgrace | 161126
In your profile you said you like being called a child of God. This is good! As a child of God we are to reflect God's character. If you are a child of God, and you profess this to others, then you need to always remember who your Father is and not only what he expects of you, but that you are claiming to others to represent Him and His ways. With that in mind, read Ephesians 5:1-17. inmyheart made a very good point to you when he/she said "this is not just about you, it's also about her" I would go one step farther and say this. In the order of importance this is about God, your girlfriend, and you. Would you place yourself before God and your girlfriend? (Think on that! No need to answer) |

93 | Why did God block access to the tree of | Gen 3:24 | humbledbyhisgrace | 157146
Hardly can we say that God was fearful of man. He created man so exactly what would He have to be fearful of? Obedience is the answer to your question not fear. God had already given man access to everything in the beginning. It was mans disobedience that caused the problem. You ask why did God blocked the way to the tree of life? Take a closer look at Genesis 3:22 22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, lest he stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life , and eat, and live forever" (NASB) Notice it says "and now, lest he stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life , and eat, and live forever" The tree of life is not blocked brother, but man no longer has access to it lest he stretch out his hand and take from it. To gain access to it you must accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Man separated himself by being disobedient, but God provided man a way to live forever. Why would He do this if He was afraid of man living for ever? God's sovereignty and power are without question and cannot be challenged period. |

94 | Birth place of Cain and Abel | Gen 4:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 188592
God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden (see Genesis 3:24) Adam had relations with his wife (Eve) and gave birth to Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1) which as I read it was after Adam and Eve were driven out of the garden of Eden. Your second question is absurd! By the way, Adam and Eve were not born! Steve |

95 | "whoever" . Who are these other people?? | Gen 4:14 | humbledbyhisgrace | 194818
Greetings! Why do you assume there was only the three? Genesis 4:17 speaks of Cain having relations with his wife. So obviously there were others :-) Keep in mind the Scriptures are not always a detailed description of every person born, every minute of every day etc... After all, just look at verse 17. Cain had relations with his wife, she gave birth to Enoch, and Cain built a city all in one verse :-) God bless, Steve |

98 | Why did God tell Abraham to kill his son | Gen 22:2 | humbledbyhisgrace | 214877
Greetings bibleman12! First, and most important to keep in mind, doing ANYTHING God commands is not sin but rather obedience! The reverse is sin! Genesis 22:1 (NASB) Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." God was not tempting Abraham, he was testing his faith. Would Abraham be obedient? God told Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering not to "kill" him (Genesis 22:2). If indeed there was any temptation, it would have been Abraham's own heart to disobey God's command. James 1:13-15 (NASB) 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. To fear God means to reverence Him as sovereign, trust Him implicitly, and obey Him without question. A true worshiper of God holds nothing back from God but obediently gives Him what He asks, trusting that He will provide. —Bible Knowledge Commentary Steve |
