If your asking and/or inferring if the priest and the Levite were so spiritually minded they were no earthly good the answer is a resounding NO! Neither showed any hint of being spiritually minded. Steve |

162 | Hating your parents, what does this mean | Luke 12:51 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182739
Greetings suzievette! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Allow scripture to interpret scripture and perhapes the meaning will be clearer for you. Matthew 10:37 (NASB) "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me". We must put the Lord Jesus first before all others and all other things. It should be noted as well we are to put Christ first even before ourselves (Matthew 10:38-39) Matthew 10:38-39 (NASB) 10:38 "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me". 10:39 "He who has found his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake shall find it". 163 | A book for hurting parents? | Luke 15:11 | humbledbyhisgrace | 201324
Yes! The book is Luke and the passage is chapter 15:11-32 From there I would point them to the rest of the bible. Beats any self help book you will find on the shelf! If reading the bible doesn't give them a good understanding of the suffering caused by the disobedient then encourage them to read it again! Steve |

164 | did satan want to torment them? | Luke 22:31 | humbledbyhisgrace | 181680
Greetings godservant2! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Satan tempted Eve to sin against God (Genesis 3:1-6), so he tried to get Jesus to sin and thus fail in his mission as Messiah (Matthew 4:1-11). The tactics of Satan and his demons are to use lies (John 8:44), deception (Revelation 12:9), murder (Psalms 106:37; John 8:44), and every other kind of destructive activity to attempt to cause people to turn away from God and destroy themselves. Demons will try every tactic to blind people to the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4) and keep them in bondage to things that hinder them from coming to God (Galatians 4:8). They will also try to use temptation, doubt, guilt, fear, confusion, sickness, envy, pride, slander, or any other means possible to hinder a Christian's witness and usefulness. 165 | Searching for the truth | John | humbledbyhisgrace | 190121
Greetings Fytrobert! John 14:14-15 (NASB) 14:14 "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 1 John 5:14 (NASB) This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 3:21-22 (NASB) 3:21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 3:22 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. It appears you are focusing on what name one calls the Lord (Correct me if I'm wrong on that). Surely this is not what is meant by "ask Me anything in My name". Considering the scriptures above and the fact in Genesis 11:1-9 it is God Himself that confused the language of mankind. He set our boundaries and times to live on all the face of the earth (Acts 17:26). By the grace of God and to His glory, there are many languages spoken by mankind. The spelling and pronunciation of names may be different across some languages but this is by His design! Personally, I hold fast to proclaiming the name of Jesus when I pray. Not that saying the name is a requirement for the prayer. But rather as a cry to God and to the world and to myself that I believe and confess Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I have heard some teach that we should use certain names and that it is dishonoring to God when we use the translated names ect... Again, my opinion, but what scripture teaches is that if we love Him, we keep His commandments, if we ask according to His will, if we do what is pleasing in His site (see scriptures above), if we abide in Him and do His will (John 15:1-16)! Hope this helps! In Jesus name and to His glory! Steve |

167 | sharing your faith with a Jehovah witnes | John 1:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 186015
Greetings gkidder! The short answer is to do it the same way you would with anyone else that is lost. For me I will not debate it with them because the truth is their teaching is not even a debatable issue. It is clearly false teaching! False teaching needs not be debated but simply rejected. When they come to my door I will simply redirect them with scripture to point out the error of their teaching. It is the power of God's word and the power of the Holy Spirit that will make the difference. By Faith, Steve |

Greetings nightjay! Yes, all things come from God! (Romans 11:33-36, John 1:3, Colossians 1:16, Revelation 4:11) Mankind has a tendency to puff himself up and think highly of himself and his accomplishments. We tend to fall into the trap of believing in our own abilities when in fact even our ability to rise in the morning and work the fields so to speak is by the hand of God we do so! What has mankind produced and/or discovered that God has not provided? I know of nothing! God bless, Steve |

171 | If you have never learned of the Trinity | John 3:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 166377
There are many different doctrines taught throughout the bible and all I believe are important for us to learn and understand. After all, each one is the word of God. I would encourage you to do a study on Salvation. There are many places on the web that offer free studies on this subject and can point you to many of the scriptures speaking to this subject. It's my belief the scriptures teach us that it's only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that our sins are forgiven (Ephesians 1:7) and there is nothing we can do to earn that forgiveness of sin on our own, it is a gift from God Himself (Ephesians 2:8-9) and that if we confess Jesus as our Lord and believe in our heart God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved! (Romans 10:9-10). Please do not misunderstand me regarding the doctrine of the Trinity. I am not saying this is not important nor something you should disregard. I'm only attempting to point out the word of God to my understanding does not require the belief or understanding of the trinity to be saved. However, I will also state that I do believe the bible teaches us what we (mankind) refer to as the triune God. One God in three distinct persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Your Brother in Christ, Steve |

173 | The Book of 1 John | John 3:16 | humbledbyhisgrace | 181748
Greetings shing! Pointing to 1 John 3 does not answer the question. This does not negate the scriptures I ask you to consider regarding a believer sinning. When reading 1 John 3 give consideration to these two words as you read it. “abides” and “practices”. I think if you do it should help you understand it better. As you have presented it you appear to be saying this teaches something different then what the verses I pointed out to you does. Consider the scriptures I have pointed out and add to that 1 John 2:1 1 John 2:1 (NASB) 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; Did you happen to read that one when you read the whole book? The scripture clearly reads “…And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father…” Like the other verses I referenced, it is clear from scripture the believer still sins. Again I ask you, what do you do with the scriptures I have pointed out? You point to 1 John 3 but that does not answer the question nor does it put away the clear teaching of the scriptures I referenced. If you think that it does please explain your teaching. Thanks and by the way, thank you again for your blessings. God bless you as well and may He bless us both as we discuss His word. By Faith, Steve |

softballqt, You said "I am leaning towards Jesus as being a teacher of secret knowledge... any thoughts?" Perhaps you are leaning in the wrong direction. I'm glad you ask for scripture proof! Start with His birth! Luke 1:34-35 (NASB95) 1:34 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" 1:35 The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God. There are many more scriptures that speak to who Jesus is. But for now, based on this scripture, who would you say Jesus is? Steve |

177 | People in Prosperity/vs in Poverty | John 9:3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182603
Greetings bluestar! Jesus disciples ask a question similar to yours. Consider their question and Jesus answer. John 9:1-3 (NASB95) 1 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. The reason I offered this scriptures is to point out we need to try to understand these things spiritually and not of the flesh. Trying to reason these things based on our own understanding will, in my opinion never lead us to the truth. I might add that someone being born in a prosperous country is not a guarantee they do not suffer. I do agree that many more do suffer in some parts of the world then others in regards to many things. The fact is, our disobedience to God has caused all of us to suffer. Consider again the scripture passage John 9:1-3 and add to it verse 4. John 9:4 John 9:4 (NASB95) We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. We know our fellow man suffers. Are we doing our part as a child of God? Ephesians 2:10 (NASB95) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. There is much we can do to glorify our Father! God bless, Steve |

179 | John 13:1 | John 13:15 | humbledbyhisgrace | 189343
Azure, My understanding is "the end" is referring to His time here on earth with them. Consider the first part of the verse "...Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father..." I would think the washing of the disciples feet was aditional proof of the statement as it shows even though His hour had come, He humbled Himself once more taking the opportunity to teach them the ways of God! 180 | Should good men be allowed in Heaven? | John 14:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 163568
The word of God is very clear about this. John 14:6 NKJV "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. " The bible is also very clear that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ and not of anything that we can do ourselves. We cannot obtain salvation through our works. Ephesians 2:8-10 KKJV 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works , which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Regardless of how good a person may be in our eyes, we are all sinners (Romans 3:23). We cannot use our interpretation of what is right or wrong as our guide because many times they are in disagreement with what God's word teaches us. The fact that you do not recall your Father teaching you about Jesus or never heard him proclaim Him has no meaning in regards to your Fathers relationship with God. Many born again Christians can be placed in the same category. I would also argue that many people who proclaim Jesus have not truly accepted Him. We are also taught this through the word of God in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me,'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven". Your desire to know that your earthly Father was saved is understandable. I don't even know you but my heart truly goes out to you regarding this issue. All Christians should be so concerned about their family members and others as well. There will come a day that there are no second chances. I hope this helps. I understand your concern and I think you simply have to place your trust in Christ on all things including this issue. It may very well be that your Father was saved. Although it would have been nice for you to have heard this from him, it is not what determines his salvation. God bless you and I pray God send His abounding peace on you! Steve |
