181 | Sufism | John 14:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 176040
Greetings Ocelot! I would have to guess your "friend" neither understands what a Christian is nor a sufi. If they did then they would have no trouble understanding they are not compatible. You should not be surprised at the fact a sufi would claim compatibility with Christianity. However, I would encourage you to keep in mind the enemy makes many false claims and spends much of the time trying to deceive. John 14:6 (NASB95) Jesus said* to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. This one scripture alone is enough to discount any religion that teaches anything different (i.e. sufism). I'm no sufi expert! However, It doesn't take long to browse the net and find the teachings and it doesn't take long to see they are not biblical. You will also find the sufi practice has attempted to hijack many different religions including islam. Hummm... imagine that?!?!? Turn about is fair play so they say :-) God bless! Steve |

182 | hi | John 14:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 202657
It is important that you know the word of God says that all of us are sinners (Romans 3:23). No one is able to overcome their sins on their own. There is but one who has paid for our sins (Romans 6:23, Acts 4:12). It is by His grace through faith in Christ Jesus, not of our works nor anything we can do to earn it (Ephesians 2:4-10). What you must do is believe ONLY in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). For He says as many as receive Him, to them He gives the right to become children of God (John 1:12). No one comes to God the Father but through Christ Jesus (John 14:6)! No one! There is no other way! We do not discuss the quran here. This forum is only for discussing the word of God! If you seek to hear from the God of heaven and earth, the one and only true God in whom He Himself has said Steve H. |

183 | hi | John 14:6 | humbledbyhisgrace | 202660
raz, I failed to complete my last. What I intended to finish with is this. If you seek to hear from the God of heaven and earth, the One and only true God in which He Himself has revealed to mankind this truth. Acts 4:10-12 (NASB95) 4:10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health. 4:11 "He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, but WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone. 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." Then ask what you will and many will help point you to what God's word says. For it is His word that is truth (John 17:17). Steve |

Charlie, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! It may be with the limited details I'm not completely understanding you. But with what you have stated, if it is true your wife was saved, then why is it you think there was a better way? Is this not how God chose to draw her to Himself? Was He not glorified? Is your wife not now secured in His saving grace? Steve |

Greetings johnboy36, Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! It would have appeared to you just like it did to the eye witnesses that were there! See verse 9 below to see what scripture says they saw. Acts 1:9-11 (NASB) 1:9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 1:10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. 1:11 They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." Hebrews 9:24 (NASB) For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us How old are you? Steve |

191 | Decisional regeneration? | Acts 2:38 | humbledbyhisgrace | 169748
Hey Brother, I hear what your saying and I would agree with you that we should stay with the scripture (Romans 10:17). I think many times some tend to try and sum up what the scripture says and we tend to use catch phrases that have been introduced throughout time. I guess I should not speak as if I know the motivation or reasoning of other men but I do believe in the power of God's word (Hebrews 4:12, Isaiah 55:11) and have experienced it myself so I personally would agree repeating it as it is written is the way it should be delivered. We need not fear the lack of understanding on the part of another because we know that without God revealing His truth to us we will never understand it to the point of belief unless He Himself opens our heart to it and draws us to Him and gives us the faith to believe (John 6:44-45 Romans 12:3, Ephesians 2:8). You said "I know that people mean well but that just isn’t the way to be saved. Ephes. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" This scripture does not exactly tell someone how to be saved either (Was that your point or am I misinterpreting you?). It tells them they are saved by faith, but faith in what? It tells them that it is nothing they do on their own but that it's a gift from God. Isn't this scripture speaking to those already saved? Is it required that someone know and understand that salvation is a gift from God before they receive this gift or is the fact they know and understand that Christ died for their sins and was buried and that He was raised on the third day and that they believe this in their heart and confess Him as Lord that is important? How could one ever understand the depth of the gift of salvation without first having God reveal it to them? Forgive me if I've drifted off subject and/or misinterpreted you. Your Brother in Christ, Steve |

192 | Fellowship with God or man? | Acts 2:42 | humbledbyhisgrace | 196194
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS as you put it) is a non-Christian cult. Yes, you may find them to be nice people, but when they lead you from the truth of God and what His word says, how do they really stack up? Dear, if what you seek is fellowship with man then this is what you will find. Unfortunately, this is not what will bring you peace that only fellowship with God and His people can bring. I'll grant you that the state of the church in America at this time is disturbing. But if what you are seeking is to be served then you are going about it all wrong. It is you that should be seeking to serve the King and His people. Go in among them and point them back to God! For your edification, take a look at this web site for more info on the LDS cult http://www.carm.org/mormon.htm Steve 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (NASB) 11:13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 11:14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 11:15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds. |

193 | Forgiven or not Forgiven? | Acts 5:31 | humbledbyhisgrace | 170304
Greetings Brother! I would agree we are not forgiven because of remorse or sorrow or guilt but rather because repentance is a gift from God (Acts 5:31, Acts 11:18). Is it not the remorse, sorrow, guilt, etc... and understanding of whom we have sinned against that leads us to repent? Steve |

194 | explanation needed | Acts 8:37 | humbledbyhisgrace | 215434
The Greek aorist participle, epikalesamenos, translated calling on His name refers either to action which is simultaneous with or before that of the main verb. Here Paul’s calling on Christ’s name (for salvation) preceded his water baptism. The participle may be translated, “having called on His name.”—Bible Knowledge Commentary Acts 8:34-37 (NASB) 8:34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?" 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. 8:36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said*, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" 8:37 [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] Note in the above passage that "If you believe with all your heart, you may". Faith does not come through baptism... Romans 10:14-17 (NASB) 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 10:15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!" 10:16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?" 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB) 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 2:9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Steve |

195 | How did the Jews identify the Uncircumci | Acts 16:3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 192433
Greetings birdy! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I don't know the answer to the question so I'm speculating :-) but perhaps it was by confession and based on their "walk with God" it was confirmed in the minds of the Jews. I really don't know but wanted to jump in here and promote a different question to your class. Take the discussion in your class a bit farther and ask the question, how can you know there has been a circumcision of the heart with one today? Can you truly know? Include yourselves when asking the question! See Also Acts 15:1-12, Romans 4:9-12 and Galatians 2:15-21 as your class discusses circumcision. God Bless, Steve |

196 | everlasting kingdom | Acts 17:26 | humbledbyhisgrace | 202255
Esdras, There is no biblical foundation for such! It seems to me scripture teaches just the opposite. I think it is safe to say based on what we find in scripture and see from mankind over the years he has walked this earth that we have yet to learn as a whole what sin does to us and to the creation as a whole. Scripture teaches us we are sinners desperately in need of a saviour (Romans 3:23). Mankind does not have within himself the ability to cleanse himself or change his sinfulness nor the ability to change his ways without the intervention of God (1 Corinthians 2:14, Romans 8:5-8, John 6:44-45). And we have no excuse because it is mankind that has sinned and suppressed the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18-21). Given that, I see no hope for mankind at all without God Himself intervening! God has appointed our times and boundaries (Acts 17:26) and certainly mankind has no power to change that despite how highly man thinks of himself. God has declared to mankind to repent because He has FIXED a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through Christ Jesus (Acts 17:30-31). So no! Mankind for the most part can’t even recognize the problem much less correct it. The everlasting kingdom is that of the only one who was, is and ever will be and that is the Lord God! Psalms 145:13 (NASB) Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. Steve |

call2faith, God has sent the message long ago! And not only the message, but the greatest and clearest sign mankind could ever be shown. Acts 17:30-31 (NASB) 17:30 "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, 17:31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead." 1 Corinthians 15:1-8 (NASB) 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 15:5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 15:6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 15:7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 15:8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 200 | Refer to Romans 11:28-29 | Romans | humbledbyhisgrace | 191611
Greetings begbie! Study this and I think it will help you understand. This was taken from the Bible Knowledge Commentary "11:28-29. Here Paul summarized God’s dealings with Israel and with the Gentiles. In order for God to bring the gospel to Gentiles He had to deal with Israel corporately as enemies. But in relation to God’s choice (election) of Abraham and His covenant with him and the patriarchs, Israel is beloved. Because God chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (cf. 9:6-13), He loves the nation and will carry through on His promises. This is another reason Israel’s hardening must be temporary (cf. 11:15, 22-25) and she must finally be saved corporately: God chose her. And God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable (lit., “for not repented of are the grace-gifts and the calling of God”). He does not revoke what He has given or whom He has chosen (“call” means election and salvation; cf. 1:6; 8:30). 11:30-32. The Gentiles to whom Paul wrote were at one time disobedient to God, but in this Age of Grace Gentiles (you) have now received mercy. When Adam disobeyed (5:19) all were constituted sinners because all humanity sinned in Adam (5:12). (Cf. “disobedient” in Eph. 2:2; 5:6; and “disobedience” in Heb. 4:6, 11.) Israel (they) is now corporately disobedient to God so that when God’s mercy to the Gentiles (you) reaches its full number (Rom. 11:25), Israel will again receive mercy (cf. vv. 26-27). God’s ultimate purpose is to have mercy on... all. To do so justly God has bound (synekleisen, “enclosed, shut in on all sides”) all men over to disobedience. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (3:23). “Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin” (3:9), so that “there is no difference” (3:22). When the Gentiles rejected God and disobeyed Him (1:17-21), God chose Abraham and his descendants as His special people. Now the disobedience of the Jews enables God to show mercy to the Gentiles. Then, when that purpose is achieved, He will again show mercy to Israel corporately." —Bible Knowledge Commentary Steve |
