Bible Question:  Just came across this while reading.
How is it explained in relation to faith, grace alone?
Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Bible Answer:  The Greek aorist participle, epikalesamenos, translated calling on His name refers either to action which is simultaneous with or before that of the main verb. Here Paul’s calling on Christ’s name (for salvation) preceded his water baptism. The participle may be translated, “having called on His name.”—Bible Knowledge Commentary

Acts 8:34-37 (NASB)
8:34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?"
8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.
8:36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said*, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?"
8:37 [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."]

Note in the above passage that "If you believe with all your heart, you may".

Faith does not come through baptism...

Romans 10:14-17 (NASB)
10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?
10:15 How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!"
10:16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?"
10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB)
2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
2:9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
