3 | why do singles think they need a mate? | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 199198
I think this is matter of opinion. I know several single Christians that appear perfectly happy. I don't think being saved leads to dating. I myself can't picture life without my lovely wife, but that doesn't have anything to do with being saved. Is she a blessing to me spiritually? Yes. She encourages, supports, and straightens me out when I start to go off the narrow path. So I don't know why you would think that once you are saved you have to have a 'mate'? Maybe I missed something in your question. |

5 | why do singles think they need a mate? | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 199206
Yes, I read the chapter you are referring to which is a chapter dealing with marriage and relationships. Your original question was why do singles think they need a 'mate' when they get saved? Once again, I don't feel every single thinks this away. I know some that are perfectly happy without a spouse and feel fulfilled. They live an active productive life in the church and are valuable members of our church body. Yes, with marriage comes some additional 'burdens' a single person doesn't have. This is stated in the scripture. Yet also with marriage, comes some blessings that a single person will never have, such as children. Do people get married for the wrong reason? Yes. I will address my own marriage, my wife and I dated for about four years before we got married. We didn't rush anything, we let our relationship grow, we have a beautiful daughter and we have been happily married for 13 years. As we have both grown closer to the Lord, our relationship has grown closer to each other. I feel that you can be productive, happy, and fulfilled Christian married or single. Each will have challenges. Paul does say if you aren't up to the challenge of lust, then get married. Sex isn't a bad thing, it is a beautiful thing for a married couple. Maybe someone else can help answer your question, because I guess I'm just having a hard time grasping what you are trying to get at or searching for? |

17 | Getting a better understanding of God | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 201558
You are starting to take the right steps by reading your Bible and praying. One way of knowing if God is speaking to you and it is not your own thoughts is comparing it with God's Word (Bible). God will not contradict Himself. IF the thoughts don't align with the Bible, then obviously they are not from God. Is there a little bell that goes off or loud whistle when God speaks? Nope, although I think He needs to use something like that to get my attention from time to time. A warning that I would like to give you, is be very careful about taking just one scripture and saying God said 'this' to me through 'this' scripture. I have seen scripture(s) taken out of context and used wrongfully. If you pray and study God's Word, as you grow closer to God you will recognize His voice. As with any good friendship, as it develops you are able to recognize that friend without a doubt. The good Lord already recognizes us; we just have to develop that friendship so we can recognize Him. I don’t know if you are much of a dog person, but if you are maybe this help. When you first get a puppy, that puppy will go to any stranger and wanders from person to person. Anyone can call the puppy and it will come or some will just ignore the voices and do its own thing. Yet as the puppy grows and becomes familiar with his master’s voice, the dog can discern that voice from amongst all the other voices. The dog recognizes and learns to follow his master’s voice. Just as we grow as Christians and spend time with our Master, we grow to discern the voice of God from amongst all the noise. Brad |

18 | Others have no right to judge only GOD!! | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 201717
Your post seems to deal with a few different topics, without giving any scriptures for proof. The first is public prayer. The passage you are referring to is from Matthew 6:5. The research I have done on the passage has to do with the spirit the men were praying in. Their prayer was not for God, but to gain the public approval of men. Basically they were wanted to show everyone how ‘religious’ they were. As the scripture says, they got their full reward. If you read Luke 18:10-14 you will see this explained. The purpose of prayer is not to gain public approval for us, but pray should be for God. Does this mean we shouldn’t pray in public places? No, Matthew 18:19, 20 actually encourages us to pray with one another. The second topic I see is faith. You make the statement that “it's nobody's business if or how you believe in God”. It is every Christian’s concern if a person believes in God and His saving grace. Matthew 28:16-20 tells us that we are to go into the entire world and preach the Gospel. The third topic was judging. You are correct that there is scripture that warns us about judging one another. Yet I have seen this taken to the other extreme where in the name of ‘not judging’ Christians are unwilling to call sin, sin. The Bible gives us some very clear standards of what sin is, such as adultery, homosexuality, thieves, drunkard, (1 Co 6:9,10) and Christians should never fear challenging sin. You are also correct, in the end, it is the final judgment that will determine the eternal resting place of your soul. I encourage you take some serious time to research and pray about what the Bible says on your beliefs, I think you will find that they are not matching up with what is Biblically correct. Brad |

19 | Bible Study Assistance | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 201858
I like the Zondervan Study Bible. You may want to check, but if I'm remember correctly, the Thompson Chain Reference Bible in the NASB was the original, not the Update 1995 edition. If you search at www.christianbook.com they have several gift/evangelism style Bibles you can purchase just depending on your price and need. Brad |
