1 | How is it possible to obey 2 Cor 6:14 if | 1 Cor 7:15 | terrib | 153795
Hi Kalos, Mark gave an excellent answer. This would also be a verse that shows us our relationship with the Father. Are we connecting ourselves to anything in the world that does not produce good fruit? Are we supporting movies that show murder, sex and violence? Are we supporting clubs that support drunkeness? Do we work for a dishonest employer? In anything that we do does it subtract from the righteousness that God has given us in Christ? 2 Cor 6:14 encompasses our entire lifestyle and attitude including marriage and all our associations. We are in the world, but are not to be a part of the world.(Jam 4:4) terrib PS: questions above are rhetorical. |

3 | difference between samaritans and jews | John 8:48 | terrib | 153708
Hi poverton, Samaritans The name given to the new and mixed inhabitants whom Esarhaddon (677 B.C.), the king of Assyria, brought from Babylon and other places and settled in the cities of Samaria, instead of the original inhabitants whom Sargon (721 B.C.) had removed into captivity (2Ki 17:24; compare Ezr 4:2, Ezr 4:9, Ezr 4:10). These strangers (compare Luk 17:18) amalgamated with the Jews still remaining in the land, and gradually abandoned their old idolatry and adopted partly the Jewish religion. After the return from the Captivity, the Jews in Jerusalem refused to allow them to take part with them in rebuilding the temple, and hence sprang up an open enmity between them. They erected a rival temple on Mount Gerizim, which was, however, destroyed by a Jewish king (130 B.C.). They then built another at Shechem. The bitter enmity between the Jews and Samaritans continued in the time of our Lord: the Jews had “no dealings with the Samaritans” (Joh 4:9; compare Luk 9:52, Luk 9:53). Our Lord was in contempt called “a Samaritan” (Joh 8:48). Many of the Samaritans early embraced the gospel (John 4:5-42; Act 8:25; Act 9:31; Act 15:3). (Easton's Bible Dictionary) terrib |

4 | what country had the idol belzee bulb | 2 Kin 1:2 | terrib | 153706
Hi poverton, Beelzebub (Gr. form Beelzebul), the name given to Satan, and found only in the New Testament (Mat 10:25; Mat 12:24, Mat 12:27; Mar 3:22). It is probably the same as Baalzebub (q.v.), the god of Ekron, meaning “the lord of flies,” or, as others think, “the lord of dung,” or “the dung-god.” (Easton's Bible Dictionary) This was the god of the Ekronites, (2Ki 1:2). The word signifies "a masterfly" or the "lord of a fly": and so the Septuagint there call him, "Baal the fly", the god of the Ekronites. And this idol was so called, either because it was in the form of a fly: or else from the abundance of flies about it, by reason of the sacrifices, which it was not able to drive away; and therefore the Jews contemptuously gave it this name. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Ekron The most northerly of the five towns belonging to the lords of the Philistines, about 11 miles north of Gath. It was assigned to Judah (Jos 13:3), and afterwards to Dan (Jos 19:43), but came again into the full possession of the Philistines (1Sa 5:10). It was the last place to which the Philistines carried the ark before they sent it back to Israel (1Sa 5:10; 1Sa 6:1-8). There was here a noted sanctuary of Baal-zebub (2Ki 1:2, 2Ki 1:3, 2Ki 1:6, 2Ki 1:16). terrib |

7 | Rope tied around Priest in Holy of Holie | Bible general Archive 2 | terrib | 153569
Hello ladymams, This may be of help and is the closest thing to a rope. The girdle: a band or belt (Exodus 28:4 KJV) And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office. (Exodus 28:8 KJV) And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen. "The ephod was fastened by a girdle of the same costly materials, that is, dyed, embroidered, and wrought with threads of gold. It was about a handbreadth wide and wound twice round the upper part of the waist; it fastened in front, the ends hanging down at great length (Rev 1:13)." 8 | interaciall marriage | 2 Cor 6:14 | terrib | 153504
Greetings Somsmallfabshop, Welcome to the forum! The Bible does not forbid interracial marriages. It does, however, forbid a Christian from marrying an unbeliever: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" (2 Cor. 6:14). In Numbers 12:1-8 is an account of Moses marrying an Ethiopian woman. "And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman" (Num. 12:1). Other Bible verses translate this as "Cush." Cush is the ancient location of Ethiopia. Miriam and Aaron were upset with Moses because he married a Cushite woman. Cush has also been considered to be the northern part of Egypt. Either way, it is very possible that Cushite woman was of a different race. God defended Moses for marrying this woman. If race were an issue, this would have been a great place to set the matter straight. Also, people of different races were not mentioned as being among those forbidden by God for Jews to marry, see Exodus 34:11. (CHRISTIAN APOLOGETICS and RESEARCH MINISTRY www.carm.org) terrib |

9 | REV 2:15 | Rev 2:15 | terrib | 153465
Hi In2Jesus, A sect or party of evil influence in early Christianity, especially in the 7 churches of Asia. Their doctrine was similar to that of Balaam, “who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication” (Rev 2:14, Rev 2:15). Their practices were strongly condemned by John, who praised the church in Ephesus for “hating their works” (Rev 2:6), and blamed the church in Pergamum for accepting in some measure their teaching (Rev 2:15). Except that reference is probably made to their influence in the church at Thyatira also, where their leader was “the woman Jezebel, who calleth herself a prophetess” (Rev 2:20; compare Rev 2:14), no further direct information regarding them is given in Scripture. terrib |

10 | 2JOHN 9,10 | Eph 4:20 | terrib | 153459
Hi In2Jesus, For your inquiry and reference to Proverbs 4:2, John Gill has a good dialog about this chapter: In this chapter Solomon advises to seek after wisdom, to avoid bad company, and to continue in the right paths of goodness and truth: he excites attention to what he had to say, from the relation he stood in to the persons addressed; from the nature of his instructions, which were good and profitable; and from his own example, in attending to those his parents gave him, Pro 4:1; He exhorts above all things to get wisdom, from the superior excellency of it, and from the preservation, promotion, and honour, to be had by it, Pro 4:5; and he further enforces big exhortations, from their being the means of a comfortable life, and of the prolongation of it, and of leading in a right way without straitness or stumbling, Pro 4:10. And then proceeds to caution against bad company, and going into a bad way of life; which is enforced from the mischief done by those that walk in it, and from the darkness of it, to which the path of the just is opposed, Pro 4:14. And the exhortation to attend to and observe his instructions, and keep them, is repeated, from the consideration of their being life and health to them, Pro 4:20; and that they might be preserved, and not departed from, direction's are given about ordering the heart, mouth, lips, eyes, and feet, Pro 4:23. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Good sound Scripture for day to day living. terrib |

11 | filled Holy Spirit, or to walk in spirit | Rom 8:9 | terrib | 153433
Pastor Glenn, You wrote: "Is it more important to be filled with the Holy Spirit, or to walk in our spirit nature, or both?" You cannot seperate the two. That is like saying, 'Should I be filled with God or walk in the Spirit of Christ'?. You can not seperate the Trinity of God or any of Their workings. You can't drink water without the hydrogen. Verses on a "spirit nature". Roman 8:9 says it the best. (Romans 8:2 KJV) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:9 KJV) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (10) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (11) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (12) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. (13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (17) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (1 John 3:24 KJV) And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. (1 John 4:2 KJV) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: terrib |

12 | coed sleepovers | 1 Thess 5:22 | terrib | 152984
Greetings Conn88h, Well when the neighbors see one of them coming out of the house how are they going to witness to them about Jesus forgiving their sins when they just blew their image. The people have to see the car of there. Surely the people around the house knows that the girl or guy is alone in the house. They will think they are hypocrites and that will only hurt the cause of the church some more. And being "strong christians", they should know this already. In this society people have been trained by movies, Hollywood and TV to see these things and the implication is that they slept together, just by the association of the thing, no matter how righteous the couple are. 15 | How to study the Bible on a daily basis | Bible general Archive 2 | terrib | 152942
Greetings Ida, It is helpful if you can start at the beginning of the Bible just as the people of the Bible did. To start there you will be able to get the thoughts of them at the time and not have any preconceieved ideas about what they should have thought. It is good to have hindsight, but it also is a postion that can fog the mind as to what actually happened and because we know the ending first our knowledge can get in the way of the time those people lived and how they thought. Then after you have read Genesis to Revelations go back and start again. That way you will have a clearer understanding, for you will have seen what happened in the past and then you will have the knowledge as to why it happened. To know why things happen is not the same as knowing how things happen. The best time to do your studies is in the morning before the days task overcome your clear mind and interfer with any train of thought. Decide how much time you want to put to your studies each day, one hour, 30 minutes or what ever. Set an alarm clock or timer for the time limit you have decided on. That way you will not be looking at the clock all the time to see if you will be late for work or whatever. You know that the time you set the alarm for will give you enough time to do the choirs of the day, and your mind will be more relaxed by not having that to worry about. Be disciplined to it and you will find you can study with more concentration. If you cannot do these things in the morning then later after the days adventure has taken place and you are relaxed again you can set the alarm, making sure that the time you set will expire before you start getting tired and your mind starts to drift. You can set both times, morning and evening, the times will be up to you. God knows your needs. And at your next study time, always recap back a chapter or a few verses to bring yourself back into the train of thought again. Before opening your Bible, always ask God to open your mind and give you wisdom and understanding. At the end of your studies always thank Him for His Word. The Scripture readings programs posted are good to select each days readings, also. Build yourself your schedule and stick to it. We schedule when to eat, when to get the kids off to school, when to get the oil changed in the car, when to go to work, so schedule time for God everyday also and it will become a part of you and not depart. Get yourself a notebook and write down every verse that you have a problem with understanding. Don't get caught up in doing a lot of searching for the meaning. At the end of your first time through the entire Bible, get out your notebook and review each verse and see if you then have and understanding to it. If so, cross it off your list, if not then that is the time to do more research, but get throught the Bible first. Many lights will turn on over the course of your studies and many of those verses will have been explained. Like you said you flip the pages going back and forth, this is why I suggest you read through it cover to cover first. Then you can go back and do a more indepth study of each book starting at the beginning. If you don't unfold time with your studies your thoughts can become fragmented and can get confusing. I agree with Doc, chronologically is the best way. And if convienent read aloud, let your ears hear. Jesus talked about having eyes and ears, seeing and hearing. Let these two become one in your heart. This is not a doctrine but just a suggestion. For some it may help for others it may not. Hope this helps in some way, God bless you and in your studies, terrib |

17 | condemnation vs conviction | 1 John 1:9 | terrib | 152683
Greetings Noey, Welcome to the forum! Conviction is the Holy Spirit finding a fault. Condemnation is the judgement carried out for that fault. If a man is convicted of murder he will be condemned to prison or death. (1 John 1:9 KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, if we repent of the convicted fault the condemnation has no power. We have been acquitted of the fault by the blood of Jesus Christ as our atonement for the fault. And, Satan, "the accuser of our brethren" (Rev 12:10), the Scripture doesn't say that he is accusing the unbelievers but the believers, so if we are having feelings of condemnation, rejoice, for Satan wouldn't be after us if we didn't belong to Christ. Thus the warfare against principalities and powers,(Eph 6:12). Plus, there is no condemnation in Christ!! (Rom 8:1) Hope this helps, terrib |

18 | What became of the spared women? | Num 31:18 | terrib | 152582
Greetings Patawa, Welcome to the forum! (Numbers 31:18 KJV) But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. [Note: "women children" - the flower had not bloomed yet.] Children: Hebrew - 'taph' As: From the time that as a "taph" he clung to her; or; from an infant; small child They were severely reproved for saving the women alive. It is very probable that Moses had commanded them to kill the women, at least this was implied in the general order to avenge Israel of the Midianites; the execution having reference to that crime, their drawing them in to the worship of Peor, it was easy to conclude that the women, who were the principal criminals, must not be spared. What! says Moses, have you saved the women alive? (Num 31:15). He was moved with a holy indignation at the sight of them. These were those that caused the children of Israel to commit this trespass; and therefore, 1. It is just that they should die. The law in case of whoredom was, The adulterer and adulteress should surely be put to death. God had put to death the adulterers of Israel by the plague, and now it was fit that the adulteresses of Midian, especially since they had been the tempters, should be put to death by the sword. 2. “It is dangerous to let them live; they will be still tempting the Israelites to uncleanness, and so your captives will be your conquerors and a second time your destroyers.” Severe orders are therefore given that all the grown women should be slain in cold blood, and only the female children spared. (Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible) As in the verse: "keep alive for yourselves." either to be handmaids to them, or to be married among them when grown up, and become proselytes, and initiated into their religion. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Since the children were not of Israel bloodline they would be "strangers that sojourn with them". To sojourn: to live with the Israelites and receive their religion (a proselyte). Some verses on a stranger: ((Exodus 12:49 KJV) One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you. (Exodus 22:21 KJV) Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. (Leviticus 19:34 KJV) But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Children of a stranger: (Leviticus 25:45 KJV) Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. (Leviticus 25:46 KJV) And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour. Word study: stranger; sojourn; fatherless Hope this helps, terrib |

19 | Raca what does it mean? | Matt 5:22 | terrib | 152581
Greetings Gomer371, Here is some more information beside what Hank has already written. The thought of the context runs from Mat 5:21 thru 26 (Matthew 5:21 KJV) Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: (Matthew 5:22 KJV) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. (Matthew 5:23 KJV) Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; (Matthew 5:24 KJV) Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. (Matthew 5:25 KJV) Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. (Matthew 5:26 KJV) Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. Raca : rhaka It comes from a verb signifying to be empty, vain; and hence, as a word of contempt, denotes senseless, stupid, shallow-brains. Jesus teaches here that to use such words is a violation of the spirit of the sixth commandment (Thou shall not kill), and if indulged, may lead to a more open and dreadful infraction of that law. "Thou fool", is a spiteful word, and comes from hatred; looking upon him, not only as mean and not to be honoured, but as vile and not to be loved; “Thou wicked man, thou reprobate.” And so by this, putting ones self on the level with God and passing judgement. Jesus, here magnifies the sixth commandment from the sword to the heart. Not destroying the old law but taking it to a higher level, elevating it from a law of the flesh to a law of the spirit. terrib |
