Ken John, I agree with EdB in post # 110165. There is not found any direct commandment or law for this, only tradition. But, you, not this forum or anyone else can tell you what to do concerning this matter. Any support or answers you might find here is for your consideration, only. Therefore, I would truly bring it before the Lord and let Him reveal what He would have you to do. If you get no answer or you are not sure of the answer, then I would say do not. I say that only for the fact that you have brought up the subject so you must have concerns of right or wrong. This is very personal in your life and should be considered carefully. If you are in doubt, then don’t. (Rom 14:23) “ …for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” Paul says that all things are lawful, but not always the best thing to do. It may be that others involved in this type ceremony may be offended. That is why Paul says we should not put a stumbling block in front of one that may be weaker in their faith. You may want to ask if any would be offended. (1Co 10:32-33) Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God: even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved. Personally, there is no offense in cremation, but for conscience sake, burial. If there is a monetary problem, however your heart decides, God will supply your need. Be of good cheer, the Comforter will lead you into all truth. Possibly some things are silent in the Scriptures so that we will have more incentive to come to the Throne of Grace. Peace |

Dear bloodofjesus, Greetings: In our travels through God's Word certain passages are opened to our understanding as God permits that we can grow and with that understanding we go on to other Graces that our Lord leads us to. Your last words were "babe in christ", and God and all the angels in heaven rejoyce in finding you. Getting to your post, Christianity was not taken to them by us, Chritianity started in Israel. But they rejected Jesus when He was there in their midst. They saw Him, touched Him, listened to Him and judged Him. It is not that they are wrong and we are right. The Gospel came to us because they rejected Him. If they had not, the Gentiles (in the scriptures, a pagan; a worshipper of false gods; any person not a Jew or a christian; a heathen), would be lost. And, if you are not of the Jewish heritage, would include you also. Therefore we give God all thanks for allowing this to come to pass. To learn more about the Grace that came to us may I suggest reading and studying Romans chapter 10 and 11. This will explain the affect that the Jewish rejection had on the rest of the world. God loves all His people and if He didn't offer a way of salvation to the entire world He would be a liar. After your studies are complete and you still have any questions, I know that the believers that follow this forum would be grateful if they could help you further. May I also suggest that in your studies you choose a Bible translation that best conforms to the gifts that our Lord has given you. Again, that is Romans chapter 10 and chapter 11. And, as always, ask God to open your mind to His Word. The Comforter (Holy Spirit) will lead you into all truth. And the key phrase here is "lead you" not "push you". Dear Samm, God is Holy and He must do all things that reflect that Holiness. You can not love a chair. You can not love a car. Without choice we would be no greater than a clod of dirt. But God has given us this choice to show our love for Him. We are in a battle and the enemy is against God and all that He has created. In God's wisdom and righteous ways of carrying out judgement He has created us to become more honored than the angels. And thus by being such lowly creatures (lower than the angels in our present state), through our choices, these lowly creatures (man, whom have attained the promise) will judge the iniquities of Satan by our choices and show all of Heaven the righteousness of God. (Exo 34:14 KJV) For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: (i.e. Man - you do not have the ability to create anything higher than yourself and if you try to, I, your God, will show you to be wrong by My jealousy of My creation. This also is known as Love.) (Nah 1:2 KJV) God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The Plan In Very Short Terms: Satan: fallen by choice (Jud 1:6 KJV) And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Judgement: (1Co 6:3 KJV) Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? How can you love someone without choice. If it wasn't for choice there would be no cause to be created. If it wasn't for choice Satan would not have sinned. If Satan had not sinned there would be no need for a Saviour. If there wasn't a choice, God would not be Holy. But, if there is any other thing: Rom 9:20 "...Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Dear jetti9876, (Good answer from TheFinalSQL) There is an old law stating: (Deu 22:5 KJV) The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. But we are not under the law. But, the respective positions between men and women are still in effect that God has setup from the beginning. The man will be the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. (Eph 5:23 KJV) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. This has to do with the station of preeminence in the scheme of things that God has designed. Not saying that man is better than woman. It is the order of hierarchy God has put into place. Any rebuttal to this will have to be taken up with Him. The rest of your question would have to do with the society and social standards or the nationality of your tribe. The main ingredient would have to do with respect. You wouldn't go to the doctor in your dirty clothes and since your Father in Heaven should be your most important figure, it would behoove you to be well dressed out of respect to His House. You are entering into a Holy place and it would be in the best of taste to present yourself the best you can. All of this is done out of respect, but a willing heart would be more respected by our Father in Heaven no matter what you wore. Peace terrib |

Follow the links one by one and read what has been said and then consider where you stand with our Lord. I pray that this may help in your search. Dear Liveright, We need to read the referenced Scriptures supplied by our brother in post 146891 and possibly clarify to see if they say in context what the Scriptures are actually stating. ref: 632 - "proclaiming the Good News to the spirits imprisoned there.[cf 1Peter 3:18-19]". This Scripture has been wrested to suit a purpose. - It has to do with those that were in the pre-flood era. Because the rest of the thought in this Scripture is in the next verse, (1Pet 3:20), that either by convienence to sway opinion or by oversite, has been left out, which is, "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water." This is talking about the souls that Noah preached to while he was building the ark. And this has been upheld by the some of the most learned of theologians of our times. (Clarke, Barnes, Henry, Gill, Wesley, Augustine). Space here does not permit to detail all their treatises. But there are some modern preachers that don't agree with these tested men. ref: 633 - "because those who are there are deprived of the vision of God.[cf Phil 2:10;Acts 2:24; Rev 1:18; Eph 4:9; Pss 6:8; 88:11-13]" Phi 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; - nothing to do with 'deprived of the vision of God'. Act 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. - nothing to do with 'deprived of the vision of God'. Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. - nothing to do with 'deprived of the vision of God'. Eph 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? - nothing to do with 'deprived of the vision of God'. Psa 6:8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. - nothing to do with 'deprived of the vision of God'. Psa 88:11-13 "Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee." - nothing to do with 'deprived of the vision of God'. ref: 633 - Pss 88:49 does not exist.(should be 89:49) 1Sam 29 :19 does not exist.(should be 28:19) Eze 32:17-32 has to do with Egypt and her wicked. Luke 16:22 "was carried by the angels" - The Jews held the opinion that the spirits of the righteous were conveyed by angels to heaven at their death. Our Saviour speaks in accordance with this opinion; and as he expressly affirms the fact. And angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister to those who are heirs of salvation (Heb 1:14), and there is no more improbability in the supposition that they attend departing spirits to heaven, than that they attend them while on earth. ref: 634 - 1Peter 4:6 - The sense is as representing the true attitude of the Church in every age, expecting Christ at any moment, says, The Judge is ready to judge the quick and dead - the dead, I say, for they, too, in their lifetime, have had the Gospel preached to them, that so they might be judged at last in the same way as those living now (and those who shall be so when Christ shall come), namely, “men in the flesh,” and that they might, having escaped condemnation by embracing the Gospel so preached, live unto God in the spirit. For Peter is plainly referring only to those within reach of the Gospel, or who might have known God through His ministers in Old and New Testament times. ref: 635 - This is true taken in the correct context. The referenced [487] is a little reaching and is actualy [488] Ancient Homily for Holy Saturday: PG 43, 440A, 452C; LH, Holy Saturday, OR. As Jesus said in John 19:30, "It is finished", the work of man's redemption and salvation is now completed, a full satisfaction is made to the justice of God, a fatal blow given to the power of Satan, a fountain of grace opened that shall flow forever, a foundation of peace and happiness laid that shall never fail. He has executed the great designs of the Almighty - He has satisfied the demands of His justice - He has accomplished all that was written in the prophets, and suffered the utmost malice of His enemies; and now the way to the Holy of Holies is made manifest through His blood. Maybe one could look at it as a form of prostitution. The selling of oneself. About giving your children to the heathen, possibly you were thinking of: Lev 20:2 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. Col 1:16 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: Col 1:17 And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. God created ALL things, even the angels. Jud 1:6 "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation..." And God saw every thing that He had made, and behold, it was very good. Gen 1. Gen 3:22 "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil..." To have the knowledge of good and evil may not be the same as being good or being evil. Or is it? Jesus says we are evil, Mat 7:11 "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" Then can we say that evil came from God? God forbid! It is the creature that left their first estate. Gen 3:10 "...I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." Good by definition: GOOD, a. 1. Valid; legally firm; not weak or defective; having strength adequate to its support; as a good title; a good deed; a good claim. 2. Valid; sound; not weak, false or fallacious; as a good argument. 3. Complete or sufficiently perfect in its kind; having the physical qualities best adapted to its design and use; opposed to bad, imperfect, corrupted, impaired. We say, good timber, good cloth, a good soil, a good color. Evil by definition: E'VIL, a. e'vl. [Heb. to be unjust or injurious, to defraud.] 1. Having bad qualities of a natural kind; mischievous; having qualities which tend to injury, or to produce mischief. - Some evil beast hath devoured him. Gen 37. 2. Having bad qualities of a moral kind; wicked; corrupt; perverse; wrong; as evil thoughts; evil deeds; evil speaking; an evil generation. 3. Unfortunate; unhappy; producing sorrow, distress, injury or calamity; as evil tidings; evil arrows; evil days. If the salt has lost its flavor; it cannot be converted back again. Unless by Divine intervention. Absolutes: Positive - Negative White - Black Full - Empty Light - Dark Good - Evil Righteousness - Sin Forgiven - Unforgiven Therefore: Divine intervention - Jesus, death, blood, burial, resurrection - salvation! The salt has been converted. The good has come from evil. In thy (sinful man) seed, I will bless the nations (with a sinless man). Greetings Ida, It is helpful if you can start at the beginning of the Bible just as the people of the Bible did. To start there you will be able to get the thoughts of them at the time and not have any preconceieved ideas about what they should have thought. It is good to have hindsight, but it also is a postion that can fog the mind as to what actually happened and because we know the ending first our knowledge can get in the way of the time those people lived and how they thought. Then after you have read Genesis to Revelations go back and start again. That way you will have a clearer understanding, for you will have seen what happened in the past and then you will have the knowledge as to why it happened. To know why things happen is not the same as knowing how things happen. The best time to do your studies is in the morning before the days task overcome your clear mind and interfer with any train of thought. Decide how much time you want to put to your studies each day, one hour, 30 minutes or what ever. Set an alarm clock or timer for the time limit you have decided on. That way you will not be looking at the clock all the time to see if you will be late for work or whatever. You know that the time you set the alarm for will give you enough time to do the choirs of the day, and your mind will be more relaxed by not having that to worry about. Be disciplined to it and you will find you can study with more concentration. If you cannot do these things in the morning then later after the days adventure has taken place and you are relaxed again you can set the alarm, making sure that the time you set will expire before you start getting tired and your mind starts to drift. You can set both times, morning and evening, the times will be up to you. God knows your needs. And at your next study time, always recap back a chapter or a few verses to bring yourself back into the train of thought again. Before opening your Bible, always ask God to open your mind and give you wisdom and understanding. At the end of your studies always thank Him for His Word. The Scripture readings programs posted are good to select each days readings, also. Build yourself your schedule and stick to it. We schedule when to eat, when to get the kids off to school, when to get the oil changed in the car, when to go to work, so schedule time for God everyday also and it will become a part of you and not depart. Get yourself a notebook and write down every verse that you have a problem with understanding. Don't get caught up in doing a lot of searching for the meaning. At the end of your first time through the entire Bible, get out your notebook and review each verse and see if you then have and understanding to it. If so, cross it off your list, if not then that is the time to do more research, but get throught the Bible first. Many lights will turn on over the course of your studies and many of those verses will have been explained. Like you said you flip the pages going back and forth, this is why I suggest you read through it cover to cover first. Then you can go back and do a more indepth study of each book starting at the beginning. If you don't unfold time with your studies your thoughts can become fragmented and can get confusing. I agree with Doc, chronologically is the best way. And if convienent read aloud, let your ears hear. Jesus talked about having eyes and ears, seeing and hearing. Let these two become one in your heart. This is not a doctrine but just a suggestion. For some it may help for others it may not. Strong's : G3581 xen'-os (ksayn-os) Apparently a primary word; foreign (literally alien, or figuratively novel); by implication a guest or (vice-versa) entertainer: - host, strange (-r). Xena' (ksay-na) (not in Strong's Dictionary) plural of xenos (according to my Greek friend, George) ------------------- Strong's : G3578 xenia xen-ee'-ah (ksayn-ee-ah) From G3581; hospitality, that is, (by implication) a place of entertainment: - lodging.
