41 | What became of the spared women? | Num 31:18 | terrib | 152582
Greetings Patawa, Welcome to the forum! (Numbers 31:18 KJV) But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. [Note: "women children" - the flower had not bloomed yet.] Children: Hebrew - 'taph' As: From the time that as a "taph" he clung to her; or; from an infant; small child They were severely reproved for saving the women alive. It is very probable that Moses had commanded them to kill the women, at least this was implied in the general order to avenge Israel of the Midianites; the execution having reference to that crime, their drawing them in to the worship of Peor, it was easy to conclude that the women, who were the principal criminals, must not be spared. What! says Moses, have you saved the women alive? (Num 31:15). He was moved with a holy indignation at the sight of them. These were those that caused the children of Israel to commit this trespass; and therefore, 1. It is just that they should die. The law in case of whoredom was, The adulterer and adulteress should surely be put to death. God had put to death the adulterers of Israel by the plague, and now it was fit that the adulteresses of Midian, especially since they had been the tempters, should be put to death by the sword. 2. “It is dangerous to let them live; they will be still tempting the Israelites to uncleanness, and so your captives will be your conquerors and a second time your destroyers.” Severe orders are therefore given that all the grown women should be slain in cold blood, and only the female children spared. (Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible) As in the verse: "keep alive for yourselves." either to be handmaids to them, or to be married among them when grown up, and become proselytes, and initiated into their religion. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Since the children were not of Israel bloodline they would be "strangers that sojourn with them". To sojourn: to live with the Israelites and receive their religion (a proselyte). Some verses on a stranger: ((Exodus 12:49 KJV) One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you. (Exodus 22:21 KJV) Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. (Leviticus 19:34 KJV) But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Children of a stranger: (Leviticus 25:45 KJV) Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. (Leviticus 25:46 KJV) And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour. Word study: stranger; sojourn; fatherless Hope this helps, terrib |

42 | entry to Jerus-cleansingTemple,execution | Deut 12:11 | terrib | 146917
Greetings swaimj, Coming to Jerusalem: The place where the temple was built. This was built in accordance with the promise and command of God, and one and only place to offer and sacrifice. (Deu 12:11 "Then there shall be a place which the LORD your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there; thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the LORD:"). Jesus being The Sacrifice. Cleansing of the Temple: Our Lord is represented here as purifying his temple; and this we may judge he did in reference to his true temple, the Church, to show that nothing that was worldly or unholy should have any place among his followers, or in that heart in which he should condescend to dwell. 1Jo 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." Execution - Sacrifice: The Holy Temple - what a fitting sight to have the Lamb of All Sacrifies submit Himself for slaughter, as decreed by the Old Testament. Mat 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee,..." Act 3:18 "But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled." Thank you Jesus, terrib |

43 | Worthless, perverted, immoral | Deut 13:13 | terrib | 150719
Hi Gospelpearl, Belial: (Webster's Dictionary) BE'LIAL, n. As a noun, unprofitableness; wickedness. As an adjective, worthless; wicked. In a collective sense, wicked men. Deu 13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; (Easton's Bible Dictionary) Belial Worthlessness, frequently used in the Old Testament as a proper name. It is first used in Deu 13:13. In the New Testament it is found only in 2Co 6:15, where it is used as a name of Satan, the personification of all that is evil. It is translated “wicked” in Deu 15:9; Psa 41:8 (R.V. marg.); Psa 101:3; Pro 6:12, etc. The expression “son” or “man of Belial” means simply a worthless, lawless person (Jdg 19:22; Jdg 20:13; 1Sa 1:16; 1Sa 2:12). 44 | Why do all pictures of Jesus neglect one | Deut 22:12 | terrib | 113620
Prosemetic, Jesus was not after the order of the Aaronic priests but was after the order of Melchisedec. (Heb 5:6 KJV) As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews, chapters 5 - 7, explains this in more detail. And many paintings show Christ as a very hansom man, yet Isaiah states He was not comely. And many show a sunburst around His head. Paintings are imaginations. If we had a true picture of Jesus would not some start to worship the picture and turn it into an idol? terrib |

45 | Evidence of different requirements? | Deut 22:12 | terrib | 113662
The Priesthood of Melchisedec was an everlasting priesthood, therefore it would not change and it was instituted before the time the Aaronic Law was given. The Law of the Priesthood was given to the tribe of Levi. It is impossible to consider Jesus as an Aaronic priest, for He was descended from the tribe of Judah and not from that of Levi. The Levi line was the lawful tribe to be the Priests of the tabernacle. This was the only tribe that was not promised an inheritance of realestate in the promised land. Their lot was to attend to the matters of the tabernacle - temple. (Heb 7:14 KJV) For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. And you are right about the cross becoming an idol. I do take offense that some even have a dead Christ on a cross. For the mental picture that this envisions to an unbelieving world is death, not life. The Jesus I know was taken from the cross and ascended to His throne and is alive today! For without the resurrection His death would be moot, for His promises would be empty. (Joh 11:25 KJV) Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: terrib |

46 | Any Hebrew translators out there? | Josh 22:22 | terrib | 147920
Hi Ray, Since nobody has responded to your Hebrew translation I am sending the following to you: You wrote concerning Jos 22:22: "How many nouns and pronouns of Deity would you count for the verse?" NOTE: the brackets [] and (numbers) that are inserted are mine. Jos 22:22 NASB "The Mighty One, God, the LORD, the Mighty One, God, the LORD! [ El(1) Elohim(2) Yehovah(3), El(4) Elohim(5) Yehovah(6) ] He(7) knows, and may Israel itself know. If it was in rebellion, or if in an unfaithful act against the LORD [ Yehovah(8) ] do not save us this day! The count is 8. Commentary: Jos 22:22: The Lord God of gods - The original words are exceedingly emphatic, and cannot be easily translated. (àì àìäéí éäåä(font unreadable by forum font limitations)) El Elohim Yehovah, are the three principal names by which the supreme God was known among the Hebrews, and may be thus translated, the strong God, Elohim, Jehovah, which is nearly the version of Luther, der starcte Gott der Herr, “The strong God the Lord.” And the Reubenites, by using these in their very solemn appeal, expressed at once their strong unshaken faith in the God of Israel; and by this they fully showed the deputation from the ten tribes, that their religious creed had not been changed; and, in the succeeding part of their defense they show that their practice corresponded with their creed. The repetition of these solemn names by the Reubenites, etc., shows their deep concern for the honor of God, and their anxiety to wipe off the reproach which they consider cast on them by the supposition that they had been capable of defection from the pure worship of God, or of disaffection to their brethren. (Adam Clarke's Commentary on the Bible) NOTE: The font system on this forum does not allow the for the correct font to be used, therefore the above is as close as can be with the forum's font limitations. terrib |

Hi cryst9m, Saul. (1Sa 31:9 NASB) They cut off his head and stripped off his weapons, and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines, to carry the good news to the house of their idols and to the people. (1Sa 31:10 NASB) They put his weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan. (1Sa 31:11 NASB) Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, (1Sa 31:12 NASB) all the valiant men rose and walked all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and they came to Jabesh and burned them there. (1Sa 31:13 NASB) They took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days. Peace terrib |

51 | Why michal had no children | 2 Sam 6:23 | terrib | 150548
Hi Poohkie, Because she ridiculed David. 2Sa 6:20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! 2Sa 6:21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD. 2Sa 6:22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour. 2Sa 6:23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death. The thought is that Divid did not bed her from that time on. terrib |

53 | what country had the idol belzee bulb | 2 Kin 1:2 | terrib | 153706
Hi poverton, Beelzebub (Gr. form Beelzebul), the name given to Satan, and found only in the New Testament (Mat 10:25; Mat 12:24, Mat 12:27; Mar 3:22). It is probably the same as Baalzebub (q.v.), the god of Ekron, meaning “the lord of flies,” or, as others think, “the lord of dung,” or “the dung-god.” (Easton's Bible Dictionary) This was the god of the Ekronites, (2Ki 1:2). The word signifies "a masterfly" or the "lord of a fly": and so the Septuagint there call him, "Baal the fly", the god of the Ekronites. And this idol was so called, either because it was in the form of a fly: or else from the abundance of flies about it, by reason of the sacrifices, which it was not able to drive away; and therefore the Jews contemptuously gave it this name. (John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible) Ekron The most northerly of the five towns belonging to the lords of the Philistines, about 11 miles north of Gath. It was assigned to Judah (Jos 13:3), and afterwards to Dan (Jos 19:43), but came again into the full possession of the Philistines (1Sa 5:10). It was the last place to which the Philistines carried the ark before they sent it back to Israel (1Sa 5:10; 1Sa 6:1-8). There was here a noted sanctuary of Baal-zebub (2Ki 1:2, 2Ki 1:3, 2Ki 1:6, 2Ki 1:16). terrib |

Welcome to the forum Mysteroius, Perhaps you could clarify your question a little. Are you talking about being upright and fearing God (Job 1:1) or enjoying themselves and having the house fall in on them (Job 1:17-18)? It's hard by the general terms of your question to give an applicable answer. Even though the fortunes of Job were to show the Power, Majesty and Gace of our Lord. After all the calamity, Job blessed God and God blessed him more.(Job 42:12) More yet, I would apply Job to parents, to teach their children that out of all things that happen in ones life there is a reason. Even if we can't see it. So, Pro 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go..." Pro 8:11 "For wisdom is better than rubies..." terrib |

59 | Psalm 2:8; Eph. 1:18, same inheritance? | Ps 2:8 | terrib | 150379
Greetings Humble Pi, Time and time again, we see Christ in the Old Testament. Here is now different. Psa 2:8(KJV) 'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. (All nations, Jews and Gentiles) Ask of Me and all things will be yours, the prayer of Jesus in John 17(KJV) comes to mind. Jesus asking that He resume His glory with the Father and that we might share in that glory. Through the obedience of the cross Jesus receives His inheritance.(Psa 2:8) So, in Eph 1:18(KJV) Paul prays that we, the saints, come to the understanding and knowledge of the fullness of our inheritance that is in Christ Jesus. In Psalms God says ask, Jesus asks and receives, Paul prays in Eph 1:17-18(KJV) that our hearts, not in our minds intellectually, be enlightened with a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know and to understand the greatness and the power of God toward us through Christ. That you may understand what is the glorious abundance of the spiritual things to which you are entitled, in consequence of being made children of God; for if children, then heirs, heirs of that glorious inheritance which God has provided for the saints - for all genuine Christians, whether formerly Jews or Gentiles. Eph 1:3(KJV) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Hope this helps, terrib |
