Dear ksd, This is a hard verse and must be taken into consideration with some of the Jews traditions. The unbelieving husband or wife is not sanctified as, in being saved, but are sanctified as being legitimately married, for the Jews did not recognize a marriage as legitimate unless both parties were believers in God. This made the offspring illegitimate or bastards as far as the Jews were concerned. But Paul denies this by saying in verse 15, "but God has called us to peace", for it is written, "I will be your God, and the God of your seed" (Gen 17:7). Dear Adzidzor, Tithing is an OT law. First fruits are the first things that God has prospered you by. Tithing is the offering of those first fruits unto God. Your question is far reaching and involves many considerations and space may not allow all that this encompasses. We are not directly commanded to tithe for we are not under the law. BUT, BUT, there are certain evidences that compel us to consider these things. 1. (Mat 22:39 KJV) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 2. (1Ti 5:3 KJV) Honour widows that are widows indeed. 3. (Act 3:6 KJV) Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee... And logic can only point us to certain facts, that we as an individuals cannot do certain things. We do not know all the widows and the needy and the helpless, whereas the church or congregation has a more broad outreach than us personally and can administer to those that we are not always aware of. Thus giving a tithe or offering can and will benefit those that we cannot help directly. The most important thing to remember is that God loves a cheerful giver (2Cor 9:7). Not one that is forced but one that gives from the heart for the needs of others. There is no direct Scripture to give but it is the interest of the body, the church, to see to the needs of others. And with tithes and offerings, through the church, these things can be administered. There are blessings from God when you give and there are blessings from God when you don't give, but when you are aware of a need and are prompted to give there should be no hesitation on our part to obey the moving of the Holy Spirit. Doing these things from a pure and not seeking a reward heart we will be blessed from Heaven. It is just a fact of the nature of our Father who is in Heaven. If we have the Spirit of Christ in us then we should be willing to do the right thing when it is needed. And since we are not aware of all those needs it is faithful to tithe and to give offerings to your local church or congregation so the church would have the resources to administer them when and where they are needed. And as in the law, the tithe went to the priest of the tabernacle, so today our tithe goes to the pastors of our congregations. (Deu 25:4 KJV) Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. A faithful pastor is worthy of our support! Financial AND with prayer. For he contends daily in the things of the Lord. The letter of the law was abolished with the crucifixion of Christ, but the Spirit of the law remains in our hearts. Dear Valarie, After searching six different translations of the Bible, the phrase "weaker and wiser" does not appear. In a very distant sense, one can see the words could be connected to newborns. They certainly are "weaker", physically, and concerning "wiser", newborns are not developed mentally to be aware of their surroundings and the entrapments of the world. So, in a very distant sense and using the term symbolically, they are wiser, though unaware. Christ said that we must have the mind of a child to enter the kingdom of God, that is, full of trust and innocence. (Mat 18:3 KJV) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. If a knife is just used and not sharpened it soon becomes less effective in its purpose. A good friend can keep the mind sharp and alive by bringing into action thoughts that stir up the Spirit inside every man and bring each other into those places where the Holy Spirit can comfort or convict each man's mind and heart. So is the friend we have in Christ and when we befriend the Word of God, and read, the Holy Spirit can work in our hearts and minds to where we can grow from the milk of the Word to the meat of the Word. And in our maturity of the Word of God and our relationship with Him, we can sharpen those that are on the way in their walk with the Lord Jesus. Remembering, that if we take a steel knife and strike the edges together we will dent each blade and put a nick in them. So, if we follow the example of Christ, we will approach our friends not with a blunt force but with an easy stroking so as not to damage the edge of his or hers growth that the Spirit of the Lord has given. But we are not under the law. But, the respective positions between men and women are still in effect that God has setup from the beginning. The man will be the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. (Eph 5:23 KJV) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. This has to do with the station of preeminence in the scheme of things that God has designed. Not saying that man is better than woman. It is the order of hierarchy God has put into place. Any rebuttal to this will have to be taken up with Him. The rest of your question would have to do with the society and social standards or the nationality of your tribe. The main ingredient would have to do with respect. You wouldn't go to the doctor in your dirty clothes and since your Father in Heaven should be your most important figure, it would behoove you to be well dressed out of respect to His House. You are entering into a Holy place and it would be in the best of taste to present yourself the best you can. The whole verse talks about spiritual qualities; transgessions, iniquitiies and chastisement. We are healed in our relationship that was destroyed by Adam. Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)... "and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." The context of Isaiah is talking about the sin offering that Jesus came to be not about physical healing. Although, through Christ, we have the power through the Holy Spirit to perform healing as He did. The Priesthood of Melchisedec was an everlasting priesthood, therefore it would not change and it was instituted before the time the Aaronic Law was given.
