NASB | Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed. |
Bible Question: What exactly does "we are healed" mean? If we are all healed then there would be no sickness amongst Christians? |
Bible Answer: J Hunt, Many preachers take this verse out of context. This has nothing to do with physical ailments. It has to do with our relationship with the Father. The whole verse talks about spiritual qualities; transgessions, iniquitiies and chastisement. We are healed in our relationship that was destroyed by Adam. Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)... "and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." The context of Isaiah is talking about the sin offering that Jesus came to be not about physical healing. Although, through Christ, we have the power through the Holy Spirit to perform healing as He did. (Eph 2:6 KJV) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: (present tense) Peace terrib |
