So why the great slant towards Judaism and all the Hebrew phraseology? Wasn’t Abraham given the promise before he was circumcised and if so he was still a gentile and he didn’t have the Talmud! Humon en Christo Iesou, CDBJ |

A couple of notes, I use the Hebrew "phraseology" because that is how it was originally said and it seems to make things clearer to me. I do not have a great slant toward to Judaism. In fact, I am one of the people caught in the middle. I will give you a quick diagram: Historic Christianity - Rejects Law, Accepts Y'shua, Accepts New Testament Judaism - Accepts Law, Rejects Y'shua, Rejects New Testament Torah-observant - Accepts Law, Accepts Y'shua, Accepts New Testament I am ostracised by Christians for aligning with Judaism, and I am condemned by Judaism for accepting Y'shua as the Messiah. A good article that explains it better can be found at http://www.torahresource.com/ArticlesEnglish.html Note well, I do not agree with everything on this site. Yes Avraham was given the promise before he was circumcised and yes, he did not have the Talmud. I personally do not accept the Talmud, Sola Scriptura is my byword. Getting back to the subject, Avraham is our father and a hero of the faith as is found in Hebrews 11. Again, how was he chosen? Through trusting. That is how we all are saved and will receive the blessing. Your brother in Y'shua HaMashiach, Talmid (do read this Verse Num 6:24-26) |

Dear TYMH, Using the phraseology of how it was originally said would be most effective in communicating with those who originally said it. Given that our hope to communicate with 21st century English speakers, for the edification of believers and the evangelism of the lost, perhaps the following is pertinent: "So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church." (1 Corinthians 14:9-12 ESV) Sister Azure expressed the same thought in post #192966. I'm happy to have you on the forum, son. I hope that these suggestions will only enhance your valued contribution to the SBF. In Him, Doc |
