1 | Christmas-Is It Christian? | NT general Archive 1 | Morant61 | 106706
Greetings JCrichton! Excellent post and sound advice my friend! Every year I hear debates about various holidays. Usually the arugement goes something like: 1) It isn't mentioned in the Bible, and 2) Some pagan somewhere celebrated a similar day. :-) Yet, these individuals seldom follow all the way through with their logic. Cars are not mentioned in the Bible, but they still drive them! :-) I'm not concerned about which day Christ was actually born on. I'm not concerned that many people have turned Christmas into a secular holiday. I am only concerned with what Christmas means to me! It is the day I give thanks for God coming into this world to save me! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hi Tim, Yes, we drive cars, communicate via computers and live in houses with central plumbing. All of these are vastly different from the first century Christian's way of life and most importantly, they have nothing to do with worship! :-) You stated, "I am only concerned with what Christmas means to me! It is the day I give thanks for God coming into this world to save me!". Is not that the same choice made by Cain in desiring to worship God the way he chose rather than the way God directed? AO |

3 | Christmas-Is It Christian? | NT general Archive 1 | Morant61 | 106739
Greetings AO! Thanks for the reply my friend! There is an important difference between Christmas and Cain's choice. Christmas is neither commanded nor forbidden in Scripture. Cain was told specifically what to sacrifice and disobeyed. The point I was trying to make is that something doesn't have to be specifically mentioned in the Bible to be God honoring. There is no command in Scripture that we should sing from hymnals, but I know of no one would argue that we should not on that basis. There is no mention of pews, or carpeting. There is no mention of leather bound Bibles. There is no mention of 3 or 2 piece suits. So, my point is simply this: If something is not specifically forbidden in Scripture, or violates a clear Scriptural principle, then I have no problem with it. There is no command in Scripture not to remember the day when Christ was born. There is no clear Scriptural principle that one should not celebrate the day Christ was born. Therefore, I have no problem with it. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
