To all of you on this forum, My boyfriend and I have been trying to spread the good news of salvation, but we keep getting questions we can't answer. One very close friend whom we love very much just gave us this excerpt from our local newspaper. Can anyone help us provide some convincing answers? Dear Editor, Can Christians be any more clueless about the what the bible says? Sadly shallow are those who profess to believe the bible but have no idea of its many difficulties. For example, while it says that homosexuality is an abomination, it also says the penalty is death for anyone caught practicing homosexuality; (Lev 20:13). Although we witness many so-called Christians opposing homosexuality, we don't see any of them pushing its penalty of death, do we? Eating of pork and shell fish are also abominations; (Deut 14:3-10). How about the evil of rape? God says that a virgin who is raped must marry her rapist; (Deut 22:28-29). What about the holy day? The sabbath day is a memorial of creation, sanctified and hallowed by God. The bible calls for death to anyone failing to observe the sabbath commandment, (Ex 31:15) do not engage in work or personal pleasure. Why aren't bible believers following the rape rules, boycotting Bubba Gumps and Red Lobster or correctly keeping the sabbath day? From this same set of Mosaic Laws which the Ten Commandments are a part, killing is not allowed; (Deut 5:17). Bible believers say this is a moral law applicable to all of humanity, however they disagree with God when He commands the killing of a family member who tries to entice his family away from the Lord; (Deut 13:9). How about children born to unwed mothers? Do Christians realize not only are "bastards" barred from the assembly of the Lord because of their illegitimacy, their descendants as well unto ten generations are also barred; (Deut 23:2)? Do we see any rational thinking anti-homosexual Christians applying their discrimination and hatred to bastards? Do we see any ordinary Christian promoting a holy war against a dissenting family member? Do we see any level headed Christians believing everything that God has commanded? I ask bible believers, how do you justify your cherry picking practices? If you say it is God's word and believe one part, why won't you believe all of it? How can you trust any of it when you can't trust it all? The truth is human decency and compassion are what guide us in following the universal law of love. It comes from the heart, love for all and judge not anyone. Submitted for the prevention of intellectual rape, Solomon Smith. Help help, these are some important questions that we would like some help in answering our very close friend. Thank you, kamschoolgrad |

Hello Kam, The answer to the overall questions revolve around separating out the 3 classes of memos given from the Eternal to Israel. There are the commandments (remember the Sabbath, for example), the judgments (death sentences, for example), and statutes (observe the Passover, for example). The fact that the Ten Commandments were written upon stone tablets give us a clue as to their importance, compared to everything else. Everything else is not written in stone. There is no incompatibility in applying the Ten Commandments to individuals, regardless of whether they are citizens of Israel or not. The passage referred to (Deuteronomy 5:17) is traditionally quoted as: "Thou shalt not kill". The word "kill" is from the Hebrew "ratsach", primarily rendered as "murder". This realization removes the supposed contradiction of people, particularly the children of Israel, killing people in wars and doing so with the blessing of God. Murder is generally the result of premeditation or personal vengeance. Killing in war is generally done for the purpose of national self-defense. The judgments were in effect when the children of Israel constituted a genuine theocracy. People in that period of time knew they would be executed for profaning the Sabbath or engaging in homosexual acts. There are no genuine theocracies in existence in today's world. Therefore there are no governments executing judgments with the blessing of God. Therefore much of the imperatives, other than the Ten Commandments, are discontinued. Just about anything that attached to the theocracy of Israel faded away when the temple curtain was ripped in half at the death of Christ, and later when the temple was destroyed. After all, no temple, no temple service, no priesthood, no sentencing, etc. Forbidding Israel to eat pork was a way of consecrating them (separating them). However, an individual today may choose to be consecrated and adopt healthy eating habits. One may choose to honor Christ in a New Testament version of the Passover. He is the Passover Lamb. Has he changed? Not really. He was considered slain from the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). That divine sameness is not a static state but a dynamic state in which all things become new (Revelation 21:5). Take care. -Wily |

Dear Wily, Are you sure about the commandments? The commandments written in stone and identified as The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 34:1-27. Do not worship other Gods for God whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Make no treaties with those who live in the lands the lord has given. Do not make cast idols. Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened bread. Redeem all of your firstborn. Rest on the seventh day. Celebrate the Feast of Weeks. Do not offer blood of a sacrifice with anything containing yeast. Firstfruits of your soil belong to the Lord. Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk. Here is what you worte, "The fact that the Ten Commandments were written upon stone tablets give us a clue as to their importance, compared to everything else. Everything else is not written in stone. There is no incompatibility in applying the Ten Commandments to individuals, regardless of whether they are citizens of Israel or not." Are you sure? Kam |

Hello Kam. The importance of keeping the commandments continues into the future. "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" (Revelation 14:12). The importance of the commandments is shown not only in the fact that they were written in stone, but also their placement in the ark of the covenant. The law of the covenant of Jordan, sometimes called the second law, was put in the side of the ark (Deuteronomy 31:24-27). This is not to indicate that a person cannot be blessed for obeying ordinances that are outside the Ten Commandments. Keeping the Feast of First fruits (the feast of weeks) causes one to understand the plan of God in regard to people who are being called to be a part of Christ's headquarters team. Keeping the Feast of Unleavened Bread causes one to understand coming out of sin just as the children of Israel came out of bondage from Egypt. Pharaoh is symbolic of Satan. Egypt is symbolic of sin. What is sin? It is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). Even logic alone would tell us that keeping the ten commandments is more important than avoiding boiling a young goat in its mother's milk. Of course, I don't boil milk at all. It destroys the live-giving enzymes. |

Dear Wily. My confliction is the commandments were written in stone thus demonstrating the importance of them. Here are four of them that are not followed at all: Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened bread. Redeem all of your firstborn. Rest on the seventh day. Celebrate the Feast of Weeks. Here is what you worte, "The fact that the Ten Commandments were written upon stone tablets give us a clue as to their importance, compared to everything else. Everything else is not written in stone. There is no incompatibility in applying the Ten Commandments to individuals, regardless of whether they are citizens of Israel or not." You imply that we are all compatible and must adhere to all of the commandments, especially since they were written in stone. If we do not follow these commands we are transgresing the law, aren't we? Doesn't God say that if we break the smallest of these we are guilty of breaking them all? kam |

Hello Kam. Rest on the Sabbath day is the only one from the Ten Commandments. The other 3 are not written in stone. Yes, it is a shame that people do not remember the Sabbath, and thereby miss out on a great benefit from the Creator. Take care. -Wily |

Hi Wily... Unfortunately far too many miss the fact that Christ himself is the Sabbath. And it is in Him and Him alone that we find our rest, not on any particular day. (i.e. Sabbath or Saturday) Col 2:17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. Gen 5:29 Now he called his name Noah, saying, "This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the LORD has cursed." Noah is a picture of Christ, Christ in whom we find eternal salvation and eternal rest ( i.e.-Sabbath) Ex 33:14 And He said, "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest." God, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, in us, gives us rest (Sabbath) Christ is now our High Priest; in Him we find our eternal rest (Sabbath) He has become the High Priest and the Sacrifice ALL in ONE. He is our all in all! Lev 5:1-19 Etc Etc... Deut 12:10 "When you cross the Jordan and live in the land which the LORD your God is giving you to inherit, and HE "GIVES" you rest from all your enemies around you so that you live in security, (emphasis in caps mine) Rest (i.e.-Sabbath) is an eternal gift of God, in Christ, through the Holy Spirit. The OT is rife with verse on this subject. As is the New. I could go on and on. These are a shadow of things to come. Yes, he is the fulfillment of them and fulfill them He did indeed. John 19:30 Col 2:16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- Col 2:17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. Matt 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. The Sabbath rest, is a gift of God, when we are in Christ, through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Peace and rest to you in Christ, not just on, one, day in the week, but forever. Now there is a blessing that too many miss! Yes it is a shame indeed, that so many miss out on a great benefit from the Creator. Take care. -John |

Amen Brother John. Thanks for the illumination St.Paul makes also makes an awesome statement in Romans 8, where he declares: "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (ROM 8:2-4) Notice that the law was fulfilled in us. Paul is Not saying that it is fulfilled By us. Jesus is the only One who ever fulfilled all of the law. Jesus said, "I do always those things that please the Father." (John 8:29) and He asked the Jews one day, "Which of you convinceth Me of sin?" (8:46) "Which of you can find a fault in Me?" Then said Pilate to the chief priests and [to] the people, I find no fault in this man. (Luk 23:4) Truly we may find rest in Him. Thank you Jesus! Enjoy this 'Lord's Day' keliy |

I really appreciate the encouragement brother. Thank you keliy. Just a side note on that, is that there are some that still think that we can get some kind of special blessing from observing Saturday Sabbath; but they really are misunderstanding and thereby misrepresenting God's Word, and His grace, that He give us freely in the Sacrifice of His Son Jesus. Here is something from, http://www.gotquestions.org/Jesus-Sabbath.html that expounds on this even more, and if you visit that site there is more to be learned on how we are to view the Sabbath rest as Christians. Praise God we no longer are under that hard law, for if we were we would be under the fear of the penalty death for breaking the Sabbath by even picking up a stick for a fire! --"Hebrews 4 is the definitive passage regarding Jesus as our Sabbath rest. The writer to the Hebrews exhorts his readers to “enter in” to the Sabbath rest provided by Christ. After three chapters of telling them that Jesus is superior to the angels and that He is our Apostle and High Priest, he pleads with them to not harden their hearts against Him, as their fathers hardened their hearts against Jehovah in the wilderness. Because of their unbelief, God denied that generation access to the holy land, saying, “They shall not enter into My rest” (Hebrews 3:11). In the same way, the writer to the Hebrews begs them—and us—not to make the same mistake by rejecting God’s Sabbath rest in Jesus Christ. “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience” (Hebrews 4:9-11). There is no other Sabbath rest besides Jesus. He alone satisfies the requirements of the Law, and He alone provides the sacrifice that atones for sin. He is God’s plan for us to cease from the labor of our own works. We dare not reject this one-and-only Way of salvation (John 14:6). God’s reaction to those who choose to reject His plan is seen in Numbers 15. A man was found gathering sticks on the Sabbath day, in spite of God’s plain commandment to cease from all labor on the Sabbath. This transgression was a known and willful sin, done with unblushing boldness in broad daylight, in open defiance of the divine authority. “And Jehovah said to Moses, ‘The man shall surely be put to death’” (v. 35). So it will be to all who reject God’s provision for our Sabbath rest in Christ. “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (Hebrews 2:3).--" |
