The best version of the Bible is ... all of them (1 Cor 3:21). Bible translators try to balance accuracy with readability and this balance is difficult to achieve. Young's Literal Translation tries to live up to it's name but is so awkward it has not been updated. The NASB has a reputation for accuracy. The New Living Translation is the choice for readability and is fairly accurate. The Amplified Bible tries to leave no stone unturned, and gives shades of meaning. Thank God for Web sites which make many versions available. This writer says, use them all. It is perhaps by combining them that you will arrive at the best sense of the word. You may arrive at a favorite, but you should keep the others around for reference. | ||||||

My ways are not your ways and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. If the scriptures were inspired by God surely words are but expression of thought? Would it not be reasonable then to sugest that if soemthing claims to be the Word of God I would not expect it to be brought down to the way I express things (albeit the same language.)But rather those words that perfectly express the thoughts that are in Gods mind. For does not the scriptures say "be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind"? How can this then be done if the scriptures are brought down to the level of a carnal mind? But if we are to have the mind of Christ and every thought is to be brought into subjection to the mind of Christ. With all reasonableness I am not to subject the scriptures to MY thinking and way of thinking .But rather I am to bring my mind and thinking into conformity to the scriptures and the mind of God. Redability does not always give either lucidity or understanding. In truth it could be argued that a lawer is very exact and particular in his chose of words. Less if he is too loose with them he may well lose his client to the hangman or have his land stolen from under his nose by a crafty liar. Well I would argue that apart from much else besides the Bible is Gods LEGAL document as to what is HIS and what is NOT.Moreover what is a christians and what is not. Even to the devil what was his and what is and will be not not. Get too loose with words and you can make them mean anything to all men. I do not beleive that is Gods will.and it is not. Forgive me but 'FAIRLY accurate'!!! How can it be said or accepted to have a fairly accurate translation? Do you think that the hot line between the kremlin and washington had translators who would give a 'fairly accurate translation'of what the other was saying? I dont think so! Listen....... "Man shall not LIVE by bread alone but by EVERY Word that proceedeth from Gods mouth" if you LIFE depended on a translattion of a message would you settle for a 'fairly accurate' one? or would your neck be streched out and every muscle in your ear be vibrating seeking to get every nuance and phrase and tone and word that proccedeth from that mouth?Knowign that if you did not get the whole message if you got part of it worse you did not get the message at all but the one the interpretor THOUGHT was it; you would perish. I leave you myself and all to consider again on what criteria do you choose and what are you willing to settle for? and at what cost are you willing to "buy the truth"? |
