NC If you understood the sermon by Spurgeon on Hebrews 6:4-6, you would realize there are no contradictions at all. Certainly there is a prolific use of metaphor and most of the text is tongue-in-cheek, but nowhere are there any contradictions revealed by what Spurgeon was saying. I suppose if you don't understand what his point is that you could assert there are contradictions but that would make your position a moot point. Here's an example of your usage of quotes, taken out of context, in order to spin according to your own theological slant: Hypothetical quote: "Some would argue, although the position has been proven to be heresy, that Christians can lose lose their salvation according to Hebrews 6:4-6. Thankfully, though, the context of these verses affirms the docrine of the assurance of salvation, especially in relation to verse 9." Now, imagine the above quote was by Spurgeon in the article you quoted. Here is what your quote would be to "defend" your position: "I think we can lose our salvation and to disagree with me shows you don't know anything about the Bible. Even Spurgeon taught you could lose your salvation. Here's proof: 'Christians can lose lose their salvation according to Hebrews 6:4-6.' You see? He said it and I agree with him on this point." That, Old Creature, is EXACTLY what you did to Spurgeons sermon in light of the entire context of it. I suggest you take off the theological glasses before you read any sermons or the Bible. For some reason, you are getting selective 'hearing' and selective 'seeing' and ignoring everything you disagree with. I think it's called "itching ears"? In Christ, JIBBS |

JIBBS If I happen to disagree with Spurgeon, it is only because I believe what the Bible says about any topic. If I were to believe Spurgeon or any other man, then, Yes, I would then be said to be wearing theological glasses But as it is, God's word is clear on the topic. At least to me. I don't need Spurgeon or any other mortal man's opinion of Scripture. God's word states For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. NC. How pedantic can you get? You don't need any other mortal man's opinion of Scripture? What are you?? The LONE RANGER prophet?? Do you have an exclusive HardLine linked directly to God for your own personal indulgence?? What YOU decide is true becomes absolute, no matter how Biblically inconsistent it is?? Is that how it is? Give me a break! Like I said, you'll twist, flip, warp, or contort any text, Biblical or unbiblical to support your erroneous conclusions. For the person who understands the Bible, this passage only goes to SUPPORT the fact that Christ will not lose any of the saints. It was delivered to JEWISH Christians who were being victimized and persuaded by the Judaizers to fall back under the Law. The author's point was this: If you go back under the Law then there is no longer any remission of sins. Me thinks you need to go back and reread Spurgeon's sermon and the whole Chapter of Hebrews 6. To say that any Christian who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit and has been made heir with Christ to the kingdom of God can lose their salvation is heresy and anyone who spreads this venomous doctrine is of the devil. Now, if you are serious about this teaching the ill doctrine of eternal insecurity, then I want you to name one person who is(was) a Born-again Christian who apparently "fell away" and then tell me why they, for as long as their life remains(ed), never have(had) any hope for Salvation. And if you can name one, then I also want you to demonstrate how you know they were a Christian and not one of the tares or one of those who "left but were not of us" as in 1 John 2:19. If you can do that and remain true to Biblical consistency, then I will reconsider your position. Sincerely, JIBBS |

JIBBS At least you acknowledge that the text in Heb. 6:4-6 was delivered to JEWISH CHRISTIANS. I agree with you that far. According to you it is I who flips, warps, and contorts the text. According to what I any many other non-Calvinist's read from God's word, it is not we that twist things around, but rather Spurgeon and Calvinisn. I personally believe, that in order for me to accept Calvinism's position on this as well as other topics would mean that I would have to depart from what God's word clearly says. How can you expect me to accept any Calvinistic teaching? Especially since it is Calvinism that feels it is necessary to twist Bibical words like "all" and "whosoever" etc. to mean "some" or "elect" So I will continue to read my Bible, and believe that it means what it says, not what Calvinism would prefer I believe it says. As far as giving you one example of a person who was a Born again Christian who apparently "fell away" I will just say. My next door neighbor fits that category. But not knowing him like I do, you will come back and try to convince me with the popular line of Calvinism which says; "he was never really saved to begin with" I respectfully disagree with your interpretation. NC FIrst, allow me to apologize and ask for your forgiveness for wrongly accusing you of purposefully trying to misuse the words of Spurgeon. I think I rushed to judgement and assumed your motives before need be. I still think quoting that specific post added much confusion, but I don't believe you intended to do so. Hopefully we can move on from this misunderstanding that has gobbled up way more forum space than it deserves. Regarding your neighbor, in light of your interpretation of Heb. 6 and it's apparent application to his situation, I have one question. Do you still witness to him? If so, why? Isn't that a hopeless endeavor? Now, we cannot KNOW who is truly saved or not. Only God can see the heart of man. But if the Apostle John were alive today, he'd be a good Calvinist because he said concerning those that left the church: 1Jo 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they all are not of us. It's real simple. If you are a truly regenerate Christian, you'll always remain within the Body of Christ. If you leave it, you were never a part of it. If you ever appeared to be a part of the body and then left it, it was tantamount to being a parasite like a tick or a leech. Not really a PART of the body, but rather feeding off of it for selfish purposes. I respectfully disagree with your interpretation. In Christ, JIBBS P.S. Have you ever had assurance that you will be saved for SURE? Even with the knowledge that you are a sinner who will be attacked in the future and fall victim to the flesh at times, is it possible to KNOW you will still be saved and enter God's Kingdom? The Apostle Paul was sure of it and so am I. |

JIBBS Thank you for the apology. I accept it. Now I will address your questions and thoughts You asked do I still witness to my neighbor In answer to that, I will say I use to. Now he avoids me and all Christian's, so I just witness by the life I lead. Just as I said you would; you used the old line that many use. "he wasn't really saved to begin with" If you knew this man, like I know him, I doubt you would still use that over used phrase about him. Then you asked; "do I have assurance that I will be saved" In answer to that, I will briefly say; I have (past tense) been saved. And I am (present tense) being saved. As far as assurance goes, it is a present tense thing. The life of faith is compared to a race that is run, and in any race there is a starting line as well as a finish line. I run the race, not looking behind me, keeping my eye on Jesus and on the finish line, so nothing will trip me up along the way. Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, The apostle Paul said of himself; "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." (2 Tim. 4:7) Finally; Heb. 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. God Bless NC |
