New Creature: With respect and good will toward both you and C. H. Spurgeon, I confess that your handling of the sermon excerpt from the Prince of Preachers reminds me of the old saw, "Half a loaf is better than none" and leads me to ask, "But is half a sermon better than none?" In fairness to yourself and Mr. Spurgeon, perhaps you should revisit the web site (Spurgeon.org) and read the conclusion of this sermon. Spurgeon's closing arguments on the Hebrews 6:4-6 segment of Scripture differ decidedly from what might be gleaned from the small portion of his sermon that you have quoted. Please do read the entire sermon and let me know what you believe Spurgeon really said about the meaning of this passage. --Hank

Rev.2:4 nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5. Remember thereforefrom whencethou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. in order for us to have to repent means that we have sinned in some way and God is not pleased with sin. If we were always saved we would not have to repent and do the first works over again. and when we backslide one scripture tells us we are just like a dog returning to his vomit. and that is offer. God bless and we love you .

The church can not lose its salvation because it has no salvation. Only the individual has salvation. I see that in Revelation 2:5 that the church may lose its place in importance or in influence over the lost world. Revelation 1 20 “the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches” Revelation 2 5 “I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place,” And if you are saved that dose not mean that you will never sin again, but when you do you must ask for forgiveness and repent of that sin. John 13 10Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you." I believe that Peter is talking about lost people that known the way of salvation but reject it. 2 Peter 2 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. |
