1 | What exactly must a person to be saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | gracefull | 79420
Dear MPierce, "There is nothing worse than someone calling you a non-christian when you thought you were." Actually, there is something worse..to stand before God in the judgement and find out you were not. Matthew 7:22-24 Matthew 25:40-42 But the good news is that God is not hiding the truth of the new birth behind a veil of mystery. Christians should not be affraid or feel threatened by the question "How do you KNOW you are saved?" Or "If you died today and stood before the Lord and He asked,'Why should I let you into heaven' what would be your answer?" Do a word search on salvation and study the various scripture references, and do so prayerfully because the Holy Spirit will bear witness with your spirit if you are a son. Romans 8:15-17 I will tell you this...there is a strong chance that children brought up in any denomination by being taught or even simply deceived by the enemy to believe that they are saved because they practice their religion diligently. God bless |

I personally am not afraid of the question. It is just bothersome to me when someone tell me that I am not saved or a non-Christian because I have not got before and alter and professed myself to Jesus Christ. And if I died today, I do believe that I would go to heaven. Although I do sin, I have asked for forgiveness, I try to live as God would expect me to. And the Church I attended as a child didn't tell me I was saved. It is something that I feel within myself. I feel that God does watch over me. And I'll admitt that I do not know the bible anywhere near as well as some of you, but I don't think anyone truely knows exactly what we say to God, when asked why should he let us into heaven, will be suitable to God. But, I will read up on the passages you have suggest as well as the others who have suggested passages. There is never too much information. Thank you and God Bless.

My friend, forgive me if I am wrong but I hear 'offense' in your tone. Let me explain something that my previous post may have not made clear. As a child of God, our first and foremost obligation is to love and to love is to spread the gospel-the good news of Jesus the Messiah's salvation. We would be doing you a grave injustice if we did not ask these questions and attempt to guide someone/anyone in the direction of the cross where salvation is obtained. Especially in this time we are in with relativism being taught as truth, are we obligated to ask. When you stand before the Lord, I do not want your blood on my hands because I did not tell you the truth. Actually the question," Why should I let you into my heaven?" has only one response that will be acceptable to the Lord: Because I am washed in the blood of the lLamb, Jesus the Christ. All our righteousness, all our justification has been given to us as a free gift through Jesus sacrificial death and His ressurrection wherein He sent the Holy Spirit and sealed our covenant. The righteousness and justification we possess through faith is HIS righteousness and HIS justifiction and we are 'clothed' in them by faith. God Bless |

I was not offended by what you said. Fortunatly, I do not offend that easily. In fact, I do very much appreciate your, words of direction. However, I feel that we must take nothing at face value. Then we along with the holy spirit will know what is right. I learn through questioning others. And there is no need for forgiveness here, posting on message board can at times change the intended tone of the author. Thank you and God Bless

Face value interpretation You write: "However, I feel that we must take nothing at face value. Then we along with the holy spirit will know what is right." - - - - - - - - - - "The text of Scripture can be understood when taken at FACE VALUE, making allowances for obvious figures of speech, near/far interpretations, its context, and comparative passages of Scripture that harmonize with it, without contradiction." 'By employing a FACE VALUE method of interpretation, the reader of Scripture attempts to discover the normal, natural, customary sense of the text as it was intended by the Author/author (God/human) at the time that it was written. (...) 'TWO CONDITIONS FOR INTERPRETATION '1) Understand that we are working with English translations of texts originally written in other languages. '2) Scripture never contradicts Scripture. 'FIVE PRINCIPLES OF INTERPRETATION '1) Seek to discover the Author/author's intended meaning. '2) All Scripture is to be taken in its proper context be it words, phrases, passages, chapters, books, etc. Remember, "a text taken out of context is a pretext." '3) All Scripture is to be compared with other Scripture. "The best interpreter of Scripture is other Scripture," said Martin Luther. '4) Determine the literal reference of figures of speech. '5) Recognize that many passages of Scripture, in both Testaments, have both near and far implications and applications. 'The text of Scripture can be understood when taken at FACE VALUE, making allowances for obvious figures of speech, near/far interpretations, its context, and comparative passages of Scripture that harmonize with it, without contradiction. '"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth." "Be diligent to present yourself approved..." How can you say this? Romans 10 verse 8-10 doesn't say you have to study, I don't think. Philippians 2 verse 13 says God does it all. Just let the Spirit teach you. That's what the Holy Spirit does. Don't have to study. Otherwise what's the baptism in the Holy Spirit for? Romans 10:9,10 doesn't say a thing about studying the Bible. "Not of works that any should boastt". inhisname |
