The next time you are at a bible bookstore, take a look at the "new living translation." It is very easy to understand and yet "true" in it's rendering of God's Word. Additionally, I use the Life Application Bible in both the New International Version, and New Living Testament version. I am looking for one in the New American Standard Version (updated version) as well. These make great study aids and help the reader gain more "verse by verse" "food for thought".

I forgot to mention another study aid or for general reading....it is called the Parallel Bible, and contains four versions in one! Kinda "heavy" for sure, but you will find the King James, New American Standard, New International, and Amplified versions between the covers of this one bible. Another "must check out" for your next visit to the book store ;-)

Greetings SavedandSure! I would agree: Parallel Bibles are truly an asset! I own a few parallel Bibles, one of which is "The Precise Parallel New Testament" that was edited by John R. Kohlenberger III in 1995. It contains the complete NT text (and the prefaces) to the Greek NT, the King James Version, Rheims NT, Amplified Bible, the New International Version, the New Revised Standard Version, the New American Bible, and the New American Standard Bible (1977). I purchased it in 1995 for 35 dollars, and it is still available at www.christianbook.com for 40 dollars. This parallel Bible has been an excellent help to me, and it is indispensible when comparing translations! I used it extensively in undermining the KJV Only debate in 1996, and I still continue to use and study from this invaluable resource from time to time. I believe that the Parallel Bible that you spoke of (NIV, Amplified, NASB, KJV) is the Comparative Study Bible, which is also available through www.christianbook.com for 40 dollars.. My good friend Britt Hyser owns this Bible and he uses it everyday! As for me, I am content with just reading the Ryrie Expanded Edition NASB Study Bible.. But a Parallel Bible definitely has its advantages when it comes to certain aspects of Bible study! Blessings to you, Nolan |
