1 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | 1 Pet 3:21 | Romans4_5 | 59497
Actually, we could say water baptism is FORBIDDEN today. Water baptism is a WORK, and according to Romans 4:5, salvation is to the one who DOES NOT WORK, but only believes!! That's what I wrote. NOT that it was forbidden! But since we are COMPLETE in Christ (Col 2:9-10),why would someone living in the dispensation of grace WANT to be water baptized anyway? There is no "Christian water baptism" to be found in scripture. It was an OLD TESTAMENT ordinance, a Jewish purification/washing/cleansing rite. The ONE BAPTISM, by the Spirit, INTO CHRIST (which replaced your carnal ordinance), is much more glorious!! So I ask you, WHY should I be water baptized? WHERE does scripture command ME (in the dispensation of grace) to do so? |

Romans 4_5: I will respond to your view as nearly to a spirit of Christian charity and grace as I am capable, yet with candor and directness. The best I can offer is a suggestion to you that you avail yourself of a good biblical concordance or, better, a topical concordance and read everything the Bible has to say on the subject of baptism, making every effort to cast aside any pre-conceived bias or notions that may be in your mind. Your argument that water baptism is forbidden in the New Testament and the couple of verses that you have submitted in an effort to give it credibility fall woefully short of viable evidence. There has been much said -- one could argue too much has been said -- on the topic of baptism in this forum, but never do I recall anyone posting a view such as yours, i.e., that water baptism in forbidden for Christians. Yours is an argument that, to my mind, is so far off center that it begs of no serious consideration and thus I shall give it none. --Hank
3 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | 1 Pet 3:21 | Romans4_5 | 59553
You are bound by your tradition Bro. I see that the Baptist standard is your guide, not the Word of God, RIGHTLY DIVIDED! We are under Paul's gospel today, and, unlike the commission given to the Twelve, Paul's commission did NOT include water baptism. COMPARE Matthew 28:19 with 1 Cor 1:17. Also see Gal 2:7-9. Take care, and enjoy the ONE BAPTISM for this dispensation of grace. |

A Different View ............................................. Dear Romans4:5, The Word of God is my guide, and I am not a Baptist, yet I agree with Hank. Your teaching that Baptism is forbidden is definately not an orthodox belief. It goes against the totality of scripture. It doesn’t make sense logically. It goes against thousands of years of church tradition, and it doesn’t fit my personal experience either. Basically, it’s just way out there, and anyone reading this thread should take it with a whole shaker of salt. |
