AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Peter 3:21 Corresponding to that [rescue through the flood], baptism [which is an expression of a believer's new life in Christ] now saves you, not by removing dirt from the body, but by an appeal to God for a good (clear) conscience, [demonstrating what you believe to be yours] through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, |
Subject: Do you have to be baptized to be saved? |
Bible Note: Eph 2:8-9 for instance, is a part of PAUL'S Gospel, the gospel of the grace of God, which was *NOT* revealed on or before Pentecost. At Pentecost we still have Israel's gospel of the kingdom being preached. At this time, water baptism was REQUIRED for salvation. Mark 16:15 does NOT say be saved and then be baptized. It clearly says,"He that believes and is baptized shall be saved!". THIS is the message Peter preached on Pentecost (Acts 2:38). However, when God raised up the Apostle Paul, He began a NEW dispensation (Eph 3:2), where FAITH ALONE is enough, because the full ramifications of Christ's FINISHED WORK are now manifest. This is why Paul's salvation message in Acts 16:31 is DIFFERENT than Peter's in Acts 2:38. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." Water baptism was once required for salvation, but not anymore! Don't forget, there is ONE BAPTISM today (Eph 4:5), it's not water baptism, it's being baptized into Christ (see 1Cor 12:13). |
