1 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | 1 Pet 3:21 | tigerman | 3592
Consider Paul's audience in the book of Ephesians. It is a group of Christians, Ephesians 1:1, who are already saved. He is not telling them what they need to do to be saved he is trying to encourage them.

I have no idea what you mean. You can't be saying that Eph 1:1 cancels out Eph 2:8-9, can you? If so, this is the weirdest argument I've ever seen to prove that salvation is by faith plus something else. Is this your argument for water salvation?
3 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | 1 Pet 3:21 | tigerman | 3603
No, this is not my argument for water salvation. I am merely saying that since Paul's audience is one of Christians, Ephesians 2:8 should not be used to say that baptism is not necessary. Why would Paul tell people who are already saved how to be saved? Ehesians 2:8 does not mention the blood of Christ, but we believe that we are redeemed by his blood.
4 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | 1 Pet 3:21 | kalos | 3608
Why would Paul tell people who are already saved how to be saved? Maybe for the same reason that the book of Romans is clearly addressed "To all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints" (Rom 1:7 NASB). Yet the book of Romans, clearly addressed to believers, presents God's plan of salvation as plainly and simply as any book of the Bible. (See Rom 3:10; 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; and 10:9-10,13.) . . . Sir, I do respect your right to your beliefs, but this argument that the same book of the Bible addressed to Christians would not present God's plan of salvation is a very weak argument. In fact, it hardly qualifies as a serious argument. Eph 2:8-9 may or may not tell "how to get saved", but it definitely tells how or by what we are saved: "by grace through faith" and "not of works". . . . If you had read my two postings, "Is baptism needed for salvation?" (One.) and "Is baptism needed for salvation? Part 0", you would realize that quibbling over two verses of Scripture is not going to overthrow that whole body of evidence I have presented. At least not to me it isn't. |
