1 | Is the Bible itself evil? | 2 Tim 3:16 | nevermind | 134985
Is the Bible itself evil? Out of all of the questions I have found, I have never heard or read the question I asked above. This could be because of fear, second thoughts, etc... I feel this is a valid question, because a great many people believe in the bible. Some believe the bible blindly, while others actually use the brain god gave them. I don't mean to put anyone down, but fanatics (not just religious) annoy me. I don’t believe in the story of Adam and Eve, or Noahs Ark, or the fact the God created the earth in seven days. In-fact I don’t believe God has ever acted directly. These are all good stories with good lessons, but I don’t believe any of them. This is not to say I believe he is an under-achiever, but has set the laws in place, which in turn, created everything we know today. First let me start by saying, I am not well versed in any religion. I have never read any bible from beginning to end so please if I am in error about anything I say, tell me. My brother and I were talking about religion earlier today, and I got to thinking about some of the things that I have picked up by talking to people and trying to slog through the Christian bible. What if the Bible is simply one more diversion of Satan? Think about what is said (or so I'm told) in the bible, more specifically, revelations I believe. It is said that the antichrist will be a person that will bring about new world order and be loved by many. This person will basically relieve the need for money, and make the world a much better place to live. Also, the mark of the beast is supposed to be something that people cannot live without. Israel is going to take the first shot in a war that will prompt God to destroy the Arab nations, and leave Israel untouched. Lets look at Satans track record for interfering in our lives. It’s pretty much the normal day. Everyone expects some bad things to happen every day. It kind of brings balance. Because of this CONSISTANT balance, we call it life and assume that Satan only plays a role in part of our day, when in fact I am certain he is always throwing us curve balls. This is what we call life and thus believe that Satan, like God will leave us alone for the most part. Now lets review Gods role in my life personally. I have never seen anything all that spectacular to prove Gods existence, but when I try to dismiss him entirely from my mind, I always find myself calling for him in troubled times. This could be habit I suppose, but it wouldn’t feel so horrible if it were simply habit. I have broken habits. Anyway, God has never acted DIRECTLY in my life. I know what your thinking. Just go with me on this one. My thought is, what if the Bible is not the word of God… But the word of Satan? Say this “antichrist” does come into existence and brings all of the wonderful things that they say he/she will bring. Why would we not want to go along with them? If we turn our backs on good, does that not bring us a step closer to hell? What if the bible is a work of Satan, to get us to condemn this person and perhaps put the reigns in Satans hands instead of Gods? The mark of the beast? How the heck are we supposed to know what it is? Yes, we can’t live without it. Perhaps the mark of the beast is having your appendix taken out, or having surgery on a hernia. Both of these things are potentially lethal if left untreated. So we keep our bodies and souls pristine for Satan? I am still reviewing the bible to try and get a bit more knowledge. I am certain I made a few mistakes in there. I usually research a subject much more than I have this one before making any statements about it, but this is a pretty scary thought. I mean, how can we beat Satan if what he does seems so perfect until it is too late to go back? It is said that some people will simply know. Some say that God will inform a select few, but again this is a direct action, which I don’t believe God has ever done. This is a bit off the subject above, but it is a little more about me. You see… My ideal world is the type you see in the magical movies or books, like Merlin. You know, the kind where fairies are flitting about and people can make things float, create fire with a single word, or transmit thought across MILES! I am hoping that if I can’t have it in this on earth, I can have it in the afterlife. I suppose these wishes would have gotten me burned at the stake back in the day. I know this is a bit long, but I wasn’t sure how to explain it any other way. |

nevermind - You wrote, "...if I am in error about anything I say, tell me." OK, I will. Friend, you are in error about virtually everything you say! Now, so much for that. ..... This writer has been a Christian for over half a century, possibly longer than you have lived, and it is my considered opinion that you are in serious spiritual trouble. And I am by no means sure that your coming to this web site, which is dedicated to the study of the word of God, the Bible, will help you, even though there is a large number of committed Christian men and women who would be willing to try to help you. But we won't entertain any notion that the Bible is evil or debate the preposterous idea that Satan wrote it! And we don't view as real the world of Merlin, much less view it as the ideal world! In short, we will not become a party to your vain speculations or your imaginary world of magic and make-believe. We invite you instead to the real world and to the real God who created it, the God who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16]. ..... Reality is not to be found in Merlin but in Christ. The reality is that without Christ man is hopelessly lost and on his way to hell. The reality is that Christ offers real hope, real fulfillment, real peace, real life. Merlin is fantasy. Jesus Christ is real. ..... Now, friend, if your only wish is to use this Forum to discuss the world of fantasy and speculation and to disparage the word of God, please pass on by. But, and I pray this is the case, if you are earnestly seeking to know God and His eternal word, you are most cordially welcome. Come in and join in as we seek together to know Him more clearly, to love Him more dearly, and to follow Him more nearly. You may feel free to ask honest Bible questions, questions that are born of sincerity and motivated by an honest desire to know more about the Christ who died on the cross for your sins and mine. If that is your aim, come, drink at the fountain of truth, the living word of God, with us. But it is only fair to tell you that bringing into question the holiness of God, the deity of His Son, Jesus Christ, or the absolute authority of God's word, the Bible, will in no wise be tolerated on this Forum. Those are the terms. The are not negotiable. What is your decision? Please read 2 Timothy 3:16. It is true. It is true whether you believe it or not. The Holy Spirit of God, not Satan, inspired the Scriptures. I cannot think of a blacker sort of blasphemy under the sun than acribing the Bible to Satan. --Hank

Said the fanatic, who was completely unwilling to keep an open mind. The god you seem to think exists, is a god that will punish for belief! I think not. Actions are stronger than thoughts even to god. |

Nevermind - Look, we're trying to help you, but your response is anything but indicative that you want to do much else than banter and bicker. As we have said before, if you want instruction in God's word in order to increase your knowledge of Him and come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, that's fine. We'll do everything possible to help. But if you on the other hand are looking for a soapbox on wish to engage in fruitless mental gymnastics and cast doubts on the very existence of God and slurs on the authenticity of the Bible, this Forum is not for you and you are invited to go elsewhere for your diversions. It's better to be frank and honest with you about what this Forum is and is not than to encourage you to stray from the guidelines and lose your privilege to post. I hope you are honest and mature enough to understand what is being said to you. Believe me, it is not intended to offend or to discourage you from engaging in serious Bible study with us. This Forum is, we say again, not the medium for barbs, foolish speculation, or denigration of God and His holy word. Unless you show at least a measure of willingness to play by the rules, you simply will not be permitted to continue as an active user of this Forum. The choice is yours. I pray that you will make the right choice as it pertains to this Forum, and I more fervently pray that you will come to have saving faith in Jesus Christ who alone can resue your precious soul from perishing. --Hank

Now it's your turn to listen. I did come here to get some one elses thoughts in this matter. I am not here to fight, but I too must be upfront and honest. If all you are going to do is talk about me leaving, then feel free not to read my post. I don't mean to offend anyones sense of religion, though I know a question like this sets peoples teeth on edge. I am simply asking for other peoples thoughts. I never once said I believe the bible to be evil. I simply want to know if anyone else has pondered this. I asked for people to keep an open mind. Not to fight with me and ask me to consider going elsewhere, simply because I ask a question that flies in the face of christian belief. Ok, I must apologize. I thought maybe, we could speak openly about something that was troubling me personally. I can see now that is not allowed. You are exactly the reason I pull away from religion. You think I just asked that question to be rude and slander your book? That's not it. I do thank you for spending the time to doubt me and MY beliefs though. It's always such a pleasure to talk religion. |
