1 | cannot eat pork,seafood? | 1 Tim 4:3 | Mathew | 84391
Steve, Without consideration of the context, this verse seems to be saying that we may eat anything without being condemned or contaminated. But when we examine the entire chapter, we find that it has nothing to do with diet. From verse 2, we learn that Jesus was dealing with a controversy by the Pharisees, who insisted that the disciples give their hands a ceremonial washing before they ate food. The purpose of this bath was to cleanse away the defilement of touching any Gentile person or object. Christ condemned their hypocritical tradition in verses 3-10, declaring that they were worshipping Him in vain by teaching manmade laws. Then in verse 11, He made the statement about defilement coming out of man, not going in. Afterward, Peter asked Jesus, "DECLARE" unto us this parable." Matthew 15:15. This statement proves that Christ's words were not to be taken literally, because a parable is merely a story or statement to illustrate A POINT. Notice how Jesus explained the meaning of His figurative statement: "Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man: BUT TO EAT WITH UNWASHEN HANDS DEFILETH NOT A MAN." Verses 17-20. So according to Jesus own words he was not giving them the OK to eat abominable and unclean foods. To say so is definately taking this out of context, and going against Gods morals. |

2 | cannot eat pork,seafood? | 1 Tim 4:3 | Acts 22 | 84394
We observe Jewish Dietary Laws in our home, kashruth, because we are Jewish. I have been a Completed Jew for nearly 6 years. All of the same reasoning about "law and grace" which some attempt to apply to do away wit the Sabbath and Holy Days is also used to do away with any adherance to "keeping Kosher." By abstaining from unclean meats, trephah, I am making an effort to be consistent in the way I view the issues of law and grace. What I eat or don't eat doesn't earn me salvation. It doesn't make me more spiritual than the next person. It doesn't earn Brownie Points with God. And, having avoided pork and catfish for over 50 years, I don't have any desire to try it now. Pork to me is merely like brussel sprouts to someone else. Enlightened Jews know not only how to keep Kosher, but why. Kashruth may be defined as a part of Judaism's attempt to hallow the act of eating by teaching us reverence for life. Just as fasting is an aspect of our worship, so is fulfilling the commandments, mitzvah,of Exodus 22:30; Leviticus 11:44-45 and Deuteronomy 14:21. What makes this and other tenets of Judaism so hard to follow is the centuries of needless ritual, custom and rabbinic law that tries to improve on God's Word. The Orthodox of today have imposed the same stumbling blocks in front of the observant that the Pharisees of old tried to set before our lord. And so, fewer and fewer Jews are willing to undergo the task because it is so difficult to get it right. Like grace before and after meals, it should be a part of our recognition of God who provides all things.
3 | cannot eat pork,seafood? | 1 Tim 4:3 | Mathew | 84396
I am not a Jew, but I do keep the Sabbath becuse God said it was made for MAN. not just Jews. And I eat the meats that God has allowed, and sustain form the unclean and abominable the best I can. Just as I try to keep the Sabbath the best I can. I know that Gods ways our higher than mine however, and am probably failing to keep either of these things according to his will, but I'm trying. And I'm not self-righteouse just because I keep Gods laws and statutes. I no I sin everyday. And I know that I'm under grace. But grace,I don't feel gives me the liberty to sin, even though I sin willfully. Joh 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments. Matt |
