The ten commandments are either nailed to the cross with the ceremonial law or still binding, surely? I don't think we've been given permission to edit them. I don't know where the verse is located, and I only remember the KJV version, but there's a text which says, "In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men." In context, some of the verses quoted by JVH0212 are referring to the Levitical laws which pointed forward to Christ's sacrifice, and which were ended by the real sacrifice. I can see nothing in the ten commandments which has this type of ending. Also, when Hebrews 4 was written, it used the illustration of a day still being kept holy - with no instructions to the contrary - as an illustration of the rest we find in Jesus. This tends to enhance the role of keeping the day holy, rather than doing away with the concept. If Sunday hasn't replaced the Sabbath, then what are we doing substituting our tradition for truth? | ||||||

Greetings Zyph! Welcome to the forum! I just checked out your profile, we are becoming quite an international group! The verse you were refering to in your post is found in Mt. 15:9 and Mk. 7:7. I don't want to repeat all of JHVO212's post, so I would refer you back to the points he made. However, I will respond to your post by saying that there are two primary reasons why the Church no longer keeps the Sabbath. First, there is no specific command anywhere in the New Testament that Christians must keep the Sabbath. While there are plenty that say it is not necessary. Second, from the time of the foundation of the early Church, the Lord's Day has been our day of worship, not the Sabbath. This isn't a new belief. The early church fathers even wrote that the Sabbath had been abolished in Christ. p.s. - I have always wanted to visit Australia. From what I have seen in pictures, it is a beautiful country. Greetings Oscar! To see my views on this, and those of others, just do a search on 'sabbath'. This issue has been posted on a bunch, so I'd really rather not start all over again! :-) If you have a really specific point after checking the other posts, I would be glad to respond!
