I believe so because God said I am God and I change not. If we believe Jesus is the living word of God Jesus kept all the laws matter of fack he said I came not to destroy the law but to fulfill the law. |

Hi Searcher56, I'll answer the question the best I can based upon my knowledge of scripture:-) Romans 6:14 seems clear based upon the following; 1.Christ came and fulfilled the law. (Matt.5:17) 2. We are now the "Righteousness of God In Him" 2 Cor. 5:21. Also, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes." Rom. 10:4 3. Understanding what we (as Gentiles) now have as Eph. 2:12-15 states,"12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace" 4.Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law as Galatians 3:13-14 states. 5.The whole purpose of the "law" was to show us our sinfulness and lead us to Christ. (Rom 7:7, Gal. 3:19-24). 6. We are released form the "law" as indicated in Rom. 7:4-6 7. The law is fulfilled in us , "who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit ( Rom.8:3-4,9) We cannot keep the Law, it is only fulfilled by our being "in Christ". I am not under the law nor is it in effect with regards to my RIGHTEOUS standing with God. I hope this answers your question. Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |

But BradK, Are we free to ignore them? Or are we now set free to obey them? I believe the latter. You listed 7 points: 1.Christ came and fulfilled the law. (Matt.5:17) Yes! But while He did come to fulfill it, He also said that not one jot or tittle would pass away. Therefore the 10 commandments are not abrogated but the penalty of our breaking them has been paid by Christ on our behalf. It is still a sin to break the commands of God. 2. We are now the "Righteousness of God In Him" 2 Cor. 5:21. Also, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes." Rom. 10:4 Our righteousness is an "imputed" righteousness which we recieve as believers "in Christ". This in no way relieves us of our obligation to strive to obey the commandments. "God forbid it." But the love of Christ constains us and we are servants of righteousness. 3. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace" When taken in context, Paul is speaking of the ceromonial law. 4.Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law as Galatians 3:13-14 states. The curse was the penalty for breaking the law, not the law itself. Elsewhere, Paul says the Law is good. 5.The whole purpose of the "law" was to show us our sinfulness and lead us to Christ. (Rom 7:7, Gal. 3:19-24). That is the purpose then and now for the unconverted, but for christians it is rule for moral living. 6. We are released form the "law" as indicated in Rom. 7:4-6 We are released to do what? Serve in the newness of the spirit.(rom 7:6) 7. The law is fulfilled in us , "who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit ( Rom.8:3-4,9) Indeed. And praise be to Christ for fulfilling it on our behalf. But this verse does not say that we are free to ignore our duty as servants of the law. It may very well be that we are already in one accord regarding the Law and I am merely covering one aspect while you were focused on another. Nevertheless, perhaps someone else may benedit from our discourse. I know that I have. God Bless Brad, John |

Dear John Reformed, I think we would be in basic agreement per your response. I was coming from the aspect of our righteous standing. I would agree in spirit that our responsibilty is not one to ignore, but that we are now free to obey (Gal.5:13). One of the challenges I see is how are we to "obey" the law in its' moral precepts when no one, save Christ was able to?(Rom.10:4) Is the point or purpose of our walk to keep or fulfill the 10 Commandments? I understand the directive of Paul in Gal.5:14..."that the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." What of "walking by faith", "walking in the Spirit", or "pursuing love"? Certainly our standing before God is predicated by our being "In Him" but what is it that guides our practical walk? What of Titus 2:11-12 "11 For the GRACE of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age". As a fellow seeker of truth, these questions are necessary but not easy to answer. Let me know your thoughts or further comments. Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |

Hi BradK, I believe the Ten Commandments themselves are the "guides" for our practical walk. To the extent that we keep them we are fulfilling all the Law of Christ. Afterall, he is our example and we pray to be a more perfect reflectin of Him. By keeping the Ten Commandments we are walking by faith and after the Spirit. And we do so because it is a joy to be obediant! Not becuse we fear punishment but because we love God and seek to please our Father and bring glory to His Son, our precious Saviour. A wise saint once wrote that true freedom is doing what is right because we want to do it. The ceremonial law and the civil law were written on goatskin with a pen by man. The Moral Law was engraved on stone by the finger of God. Of course, as in all that we think, say and do, we are totally dependent on the grace of God. Phl 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of [his] good pleasure. I have to cut it short. John |
