1 | Why the children? | Num 33:55 | Beja | 224857 | ||
Ariel and thread, Just as a point of clarification where I stand, I don't actually think that infants who die are without hope. I do believe there is such a thing as an age of accountability even though I can't prove it conclusively through scripture. However, the main point I want to get across is this: If infants who die are indeed saved, even then it is because of GRACE, not because they are righteous. Anyways, I don't put that forward to disagree with you but rather to make sure I haven't mislead the readers as to where I stand. In Christ, Beja |

Baja, I was responding, in part, because it seems a lot of folks believe that because an infant or a mentally challenged adult cannot discern the necessity of a savior that they are "without hope." (Perhaps I should have enquoted those words in my previous post?) Scripture does seem to support this view, but the love, mercy and grace that is our Father doesn't seem to line up with that view. Therefore, as with you, I can't prove it scripturally, there must be some kind of provision. Maybe the age of accountability, maybe something else - but there must be something. If every hair on our heads is numbered, then God must be in love with us. He surely knows that there are those who cannot reason with maturity, yet I'm sure He loves them every bit as much....It's just simply He hasn't deemed it necessary to tell us all His plans and ways - we're on a need-to-know basis :o) |

Dear Ariel, We must be extremely cautious about going beyond what the Scripture actually reveals. If the Scripture does not assert a thing, nor does it logically follow from what the Scripture does reveal, we must not presume upon the truth. You wrote, "Scripture does seem to support this view, but the love, mercy and grace that is our Father doesn't seem to line up with that view." That is not the full story. (1) We know that our Father is also perfectly holy and perfectly just. His wrath -- everlasting wrath -- is upon all those whose righteousness is not perfect. (2) We know that all men died in Adam. There is, indeed, an age of accountability: it starts at conception. We are all of the seed of our federal head, Adam. Therefore, ALL men are doomed. Yet they can be saved by works, just not their own. Outside of double imputation, there is no other hope for any of the seed of Adam. So let us take great care in stating confidently those things the Bible does say... and carefully avoid saying anything less or anything more. In Him, Doc Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy wounded side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure; Save from wrath and make me pure. Not the labor of my hands Can fulfill Thy law’s demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone. Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to the cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless look to Thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die. |
