Hi Tim, An interesting related question indeed! Rom 11:25 For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery--so that you will not be wise in your own estimation--that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; Rom 11:26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB." Rom 11:27 "THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS." Logically speaking, if the Israel of vs. 26 were Spiritual Israel, it already would be saved. Vs. 25 seems to be contrasting Gentiles and Israel according to their ethnic identities. This portion of Scripture speaks of salvation as interchangable with being a branch of the tree. As the Gentiles are saved, they are grafted into the tree. Those of Israel who are saved are in the tree, and those who will be saved will be grafted into their natural tree. The unsaved of Israel have been cut off from the tree. This seems further borne out in 26b, as God promises to "remove the ungodliness of Jacob", using the name for worldly, pre-"ruled by God" Israel. So I think that Rom. 11:26 is refering to national Israel, and God's promise to save them all. What do you think? Love in Christ, Mark |

Addition: In light of John's note (see below), I would like to add that what I mean when I say that all of national Israel will be saved, is that all of those alive when Jesus returns to reign, who have survived the 70th Week will be be saved, or approximately one third of the number who were alive at the beginning of the 70th Week. But Tim, is it true, that you've done a dissertation on this chapter? Come on, share... :-) Love in Christ, Mark |

Greetings Mark! I have been trying for years to find a good text recognition program for my scanner so that I could scan this old paper into my computer. The pages are getting in bad shape after all these years and I am too lazy to retype the whole thing. It wasn't really a dissertation, it was a 4 credit independent study for college credit. At the time, no one at our college had ever attempted an independent study for 4 credits. So, I was the first. I wrote the paper, and near the end of the allotted time I asked my advisor how long the paper needed to be. He replied that 20 pages or so would be enough. I was already over 60 pages. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
