Dear CDBJ, apart from Christ, all men, Jew and Gentile alike, are lovers of darkness. I grieve for them and pray that God will be merciful and call many to faith in Messiah. But to presume that natural ancestry determines one's status in the eyes of God is to pass by what Paul declared in Romans 9. (I am still waiting for you to give me your understanding on this passge). Mat 5:45... for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Apart from Christ, who is righteous? No one!Our righteousness is likened to "filthy rags". Having said that, I want to add that God causes bessings (rain) to fall on the unrighteous as well as the righteous. Unbelievers of all nations have been instruments of God's blessing. It is a common grace given by God who makes ALL things to work for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Great advances in science, medicine, the arts, etc., have come from people of all ethnic groups. And I agree that the Jewish people, given their relatively small population, do stand out. But they also stand out as a population that have a very low percentage of christian converts among them. I truly believe that the Church is "spiritual" Isreal and that it is God's instrument to bless the nations of the earth. John |

Hi John, Well your last statement is where we part company, as you suggest the following; “I truly believe that the Church is "spiritual" Isreal” I believe the Church is the Body of Christ not “spiritual Israel” and that we have an allotted time witch will come to an abrupt halt the moment the rapture takes place. It sounds to me like you might be boasting a little against the natural branches, i.e. Israel. Romans 11:18-23 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. [19] Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. [20] Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: [21] For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. [22] Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. [23] And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. The Church age is the age of the Gentiles, which is going to be fulfilled, then God it going to open the eyes of His chosen race, who for our blessing, have been given eyes of slumber, and God will graft them in again. Romans 11:25-28 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, “until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in”. [26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: [27] For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. [28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. I hope you aren’t hung up on the 144,000 that God is going to seal? They are all Jews and God knows exactly which tribe that they are from. Rev. 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. No Goy in that bunch, all descendants of Jacob, and God’s plan is right on time! x Have a nice day, CDBJ |

Dear CDBJ, If indeed I am boasting, my boast is in Christ. To Him be all glory and honor! Rom 11:1-5 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? "Lord, THEY HAVE KILLED YOUR PROPHETS, THEY HAVE TORN DOWN YOUR ALTARS, AND I ALONE AM LEFT, AND THEY ARE SEEKING MY LIFE." But what is the divine response to him? "I HAVE KEPT for Myself SEVEN THOUSAND MEN WHO HAVE NOT BOWED THE KNEE TO BAAL." In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God's gracious choice. Paul is disabusing those Gentiles who are of the notion that the Jews have been totally cast away and abandoned by God. He points to himself as a Jew to make his point. He follows that by further pointing out that among the Jewish nation there is still a REMNANT among the rest. This remnant exists not because they were born into the tribe of Israel, but because of God’s grace! John |

Hi John, Many times when people don’t understand something in the Bible they have a tendency to just allegorize it away; let’s just leave it at that! Have a nice day, CDBJ x |

Dear CDBJ, by "people" I assume you include me because it is me you have been corresponding with :-) Nevertheless, whether or not I do not understand or am allegorizing away the truth, the least I would expect would be an example of my error. I thought that I was simply following my sense of the passage. But if you rather not pusue the topic, I would'nt be surprised. Just diappointed. John |

John, Don't be discouraged. Just because someone doesn't get your point doesn't mean you didn't do a sufficient job in making it. In this case, thank you for holding true to the gospel of Jesus christ, without wich, no man Jew or Gentile can be saved. If another would dare to preach a different gospel, well, may God have mercy on that ones sole. Jeff |

Jeff, If you are insinuating that in fact, another gospel has been preached somewhere in this thread, please elaborate and show where this has happened? I’ve been following along with interest and have gone back through and cannot find where this has proven to be the case. If I’m overlooking, can you please help me brother and point out the erroneous gospel? WOS |

Hello WOS, No, I am not insinuating anything of the kind. I was simply supporting John in his standing firm regarding salvation by grace through Jesus Christ. There is no other salvation; there is also no teaching in scripture that indicates that any individual will be saved as a result of his or her race, ethnicity, tribe, or nationality. Speaking specifically to your posts, however, you did point out the unity of believers, Jew and Gentile alike. But after that your tone tended to lean more toward distinguishing a difference between Jews and Gentiles. You and others seemed to have gone on a kind of impulsive frenzy that served to separating and distinguishing “Jews” as a people to be revered. If they have any special place in history, and they do, it is because of the work God has done to, in, and through them. The glory is all His and belongs to no man or race of men nor to a nationality of men. This is not to say that I did not and do not agree with many of the comments that were made. Also, I recognize that many of the comments were simply made to demonstrate or elaborate on just how God has in fact blessed the nation of Israel. Still, the thread quickly took on a tone of reverence for the “Jews” rather than one of reverence for the grace and holy plan of God. This, in fact, is the mistake the nation of Israel made regarding themselves in biblical times. What does the bible say regarding the Jews and salvation. Much, but here is a specific passage that states it plainly. Act 4:10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man is standing before you well. Act 4:11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. Act 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." PS. If we all try to get in the habit of actually answering direct questions with direct answers (myself included), much of the debate we have on the forum would be unecessary. It sometimes appears that people are not secure in their belief's and therefore will not state plainly what they believe. "what if I'm wrong?" If we are off track or dead wrong in what we believe, it is better to have it stated plainly so that others can redirect us and help us toward a better understanding. For me, I am approaching closer and closer to a place where my pride is taking a back seat. I am more eager to state my belief's plainly in order to have them confirmed or adjusted in light of the truth. Christ's love, Jeff |

Jeff, You’re right about the thread going off-subject as my original post was in regard to unity within the Body. But isn’t that par for the course? Seriously though, even being that it went off course, I thought there were some interesting points and responses to follow with and follow up. So I followed along and interjected where I thought I could help. Just so you know where I stand, I agree with your comment: “There is no other salvation; there is also no teaching in scripture that indicates that any individual will be saved as a result of his or her race, ethnicity, tribe, or nationality.” I believe the Word is clear that the veil will be lifted and Israel, or the remnant that is God’s, will awake from their slumber and recognize Christ, when God determines. That remnant however is of Israel. Again, I think the Word is clear on that. So no, salvation has nothing to do with race, ethnicity, tribe, or nationality and rests solely with the grace of God through faith. I just see a specific race, ethnicity, tribe, or nationality, or rather the remnant of a specific one, being called when God determines, to faith in Christ, which is the assurance of their salvation. Hello WOS, Thanks for stating your position so plainly. We are in total agreement on this issue apparently. Also, thanks for all that you contribute to the forum. I always enjoy your post and you are one of those on the forum who regularly challenge me to think. Christ's Love, Jeff |
