1 | Can sinnners inherit the kingdom of God? | 1 Cor 6:9 | billk | 56377
If we are confident of our faith in Jesus but are in sin(s), such as adultery, drunkeness or unforgiveness/bitterness ...but we are sorry for these sins and ask for forgiveness... we have made progress, but they still occur in spite of our efforts...Are we still saved? 1cor6:9 know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. |

billk, what troubles me about your question is this: "If we are confident of our faith in Jesus but are in sin(s) such as adultery...[etc.]." Being "confident of our faith" -- whatever that may mean -- is not necessarily saying that we have been reborn in Christ Jesus, that we are regenerate believers, that we are saved by the blood of Christ. In other words, our personal, subjective feelings, e.g., feeling "confident," are not always reliable. Among people we may be able to deceive, we can deceive ourselves easiest of all. So, the person who is "confident" of his faith and yet continues in a life of willful and sustained sin, such as the adultery you mentioned, may well be pulling a king-sized snow job on himself. It's high time for him to do serious business with the Lord. Consider these verses from 1 John 2:3-6: "Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says 'I know Him,' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar and and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk just as He walked." --Hank

Rom. 6:1 Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Rom. 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Rom. 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Rom. 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Rom. 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? |

Grreat verses... but are we not all loathsome sinners who "deliberately, knowingly, and habitually practices sin". I think that's the point of most of Matthew 5 .... and because of that that we need absolute undeserved Grace.

It's a fact that we are all sinners as stated in I John 1:8 but also we must consider that God cannot tolerate sin in His presence. We know we are nothing without Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross. Yet there are many actions we can take on our own to allow Jesus to help us not be adulterers, fornicators, idolaters the list can go on and on. I don't believe active sinners can inherit the Kingdom of God, meaning people saying Jesus has taken care of it for me and continue in sin, refusing to repent of things you know in your heart that you can resist doing. Remember it also says resist the devil and he shall flee, James 4:7 that is, resist him in Jesus name and lastly, consider what I Peter 1:15,16 says: But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy". My belief is, if God placed that in his Bible it is possible, God bless you.
