1 | Aren't we in the age of GRACE? | Rom 8:28 | ngkh | 141050
Thank you pastor for your insights. However, I thought with the coming of Christ, Paul said that we are no longer ruled by law but by grace. And if I understand correctly, Grace is undeserved favour and if we believe in Lord, grace is FREE. No works required for they would be dead works. We only need to believe and have faith that God loves us, blessings instead of harms shall come to us. Galatians 3:10-14 All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”[c] 11Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”[d] 12The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The man who does these things will live by them.”[e] 13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”[f] 14He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Roman 8:1-4 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,[a] 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.[c] And so he condemned sin in sinful man,[d] 4in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Galatians 3:25 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. I am confused here. If the people who died or suffered in tsunami tragedy are in their wicked ways, I would agree with the scriptures you have quoted. But I'm not sure the scriptures you have quoted will apply in this case. I can accept EdB's explanation but I'm afraid I can't agree with yours. Unless, I am wrong in my belief. |

Hello ngkh, "I thought with the coming of Christ, Paul said that we are no longer ruled by law but by grace. " This is true. But, I did not mention law, nor did I use scriptures that were based on law. "... We only need to believe and have faith that God loves us, blessings instead of harms shall come to us." We still need to live in love. It can be deceptive to say we believe while walking in sin: The Test of Knowing Him 1 John 2 3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. I quoted this scripture before (among others): Luke 13 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." As Jesus said here, this does not mean that they were worse sinners than others. But repentance does avert these kinds of disasters: Jer 18 7The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, 8if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. 9And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, 10if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it. 3 | Sorry | Rom 8:28 | ngkh | 141059
Dear Pastor Glen, I am sorry if I have mistook your earlier sharing. I felt the scriptures posted earlier involved 1) sinning 2) blaspheming the Lord, 3) did not repent which means that laws are broken. And if they did, they now face the wrath of God - all the victims including children in the tragedy deserve this for they all have sinned and did not repent. As for EdB's sharing, he made me realised what I did. I was judging God. I now felt that I was wrong for judging God in trying to seek an explanation why the event took place the way it did and by His Grace I hope He will forgive me for having such thoughts. I still am unable to comprehend this matter but when I read your earlier post. It gave me a picture that all of them deserve the wrath - the Indonesians, Sri Lankans, Indians, Thais as well as Europeans whom I believe are Christians too for they have not repented. We will never know if those dead Christians are what 1John 2:3 said they are, will we? That's why I could not agree with you. Pls correct me if I misundertood further. Even your new post mentioned repentence, disobedience, evil. |

Hello ngkh, "We will never know if those dead Christians are what 1John 2:3 said they are, will we? " Only God knows our hearts even better than we do. He deals with us based on what is really there: Jer 17 9 "The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. Hebrews 4 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. "... Even your new post mentioned repentence, disobedience, evil." We should always be willing to humble ourselves and pray and seek God's face and turn from our wicked ways. When we are too proud, we deceive ourselves and do not listen to God's warning. 1 Cor 6 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. No, we do not know peoples hearts, whether they are good or evil. So we cannot judge. Bad things happen to good people too, but it works out for their good. 1 Pet 3 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us[a] to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 1 Pet 4 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Amos 3 6 If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it? 7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. Pastor Glenn |

Dear Pastor Glen, Perhaps I am still trying to see things in my own logical carnal mind or I thought I have completely surrendered myself but in actual fact have not so. Again I may not have humbled myself completely before Him for I stll question when something crops up which I felt is not right. Proverbs 3:5 and 6 had always been in my mind and it crops up to me quite often in my 18 months walk with the Lord. But then again, I find it very difficult to accept certain events as they are. My apology if I have in any way offended you. |

Hello ngkh, Actually, God understands your feelings: Jer 9 24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the LORD. It is so good to know that God delights in exercising lovingkindness, judgement, and righteousness in the earth. God's lovingkindness for us is far greater than our parents' (John 3:16). Since He does not have to answer to anyone and He is all powerful, we wonder if He is overdoing it sometimes. But remember, He does not want to destroy anyone: Eze 33 11Say to them: "As I live,' says the Lord GOD, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?' Isaiah 55 6 Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. 8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. Heb 4 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. I hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |
