1 | verse says no longer bound by old test? | Rom 8:1 | kalos | 113813 | ||
And he (Abraham) believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:6 (KJV) tortoise: I'm not aware that I have ever said in any of my 3,611 posts that we are saved by keeping the law. No one was ever saved by keeping the law. "Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." There is a myth that in the OT era people were saved by keeping the law. It just isn't true. Romans 4:3 (KJV) For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Galatians 3:6 (KJV) Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. James 2:23 (KJV) And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. The just shall live by faith Habakkuk 2:4 (KJV) Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. No man is justified by the law Galatians 3:11 (KJV) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. Galations 3:11 (New Living Translation) Consequently, it is clear that no one can ever be right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life." Two different ways of being saved? Not according to the Bible. Since the law was not given as a way to be saved in the first place, why do people keep arguing that in the NT era we are not saved by keeping the law? No one was ever saved by keeping the law. Not in the OT. Not in the NT. Not today. And not in the future. Shalom, kalos |

hey kalos, The reason we say that is because we feel we are free from the law, Rom 7:3. Which verse says we are no longer bound by OT law? I have a couple for you. Rom 7:6 "But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter." We are free and release from the law to which we were once bound. If we were once bound does not that mean that we are no longer bound? Likewise, Rom 6:14-15 says, "For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!" Rom 3:19 says, "Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God". If we are no longer under the law does not the law, therefore, no longer speak to us? Even though there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus it doesn't give us permission to sin. As God's children sin doesn't fit who we are. Your brother in Christ, tortoise |

Tortoise: When a thread becomes too long, with too many postings, it tends to become unwieldy -- at least when using my little 4.5-year-old PC. I think this thread is about as long as it needs to be. :-) That is why, in replying to your previous post, I have started a new thread. Hope you don't mind. My reply to your post is contained in ID# 113831, "The law cannot be altogether invalid...". I would appreciate your feedback. Grace and shalom, kalos |
