1 | verse says no longer bound by old test? | Rom 8:1 | New Creature | 112102
If the laws of the Old Testament no longer apply to us today, then is it ok to ignore the command to not murder? Is it ok today to ignore the command to not steal? Is it ok in God's eyes to committ adultery? Why do murderers, and theives still get arrested for violating these commands? Were these commands, that have become part of our civil law, only meant for the ungodly, or do they also apply to the godly? New Creature |

2 | verse says no longer bound by old test? | Rom 8:1 | Renovate Me | 112124
The OT laws were not canceled by the NT, but perfected in the first coming of Christ. Jesus summed up ten commandments for us into two great commandments.(Mat 22:37-40) It would be impossible to break either of Jesus' two commandments without violating at least one of the original ten, and versa-vise.
3 | verse says no longer bound by old test? | Rom 8:1 | kalos | 112126
Catch-22? That Jesus summed up the commandments by quoting verses from the Torah (law) does not abolish or invalidate the very Torah that he quoted. Deut. 6:5 (ESV) You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Leviticus 19:18 (ESV) You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. Matthew 22:37-40 (ESV) And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind [Deut. 6:5]. [38] This is the great and first commandment. [39] And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself [Leviticus 19:18]. [40] On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." Where is the logic in the idea that two quotes from the Torah invalidate the entire Torah? |
