1 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | jatfla | 9290
I'm really really new here, but I don't think Rom. 6:3 is referring to water baptism. I understood it to be referring to our position "in Christ". I think Paul explains this position in 1 Cor.12:13,27. What is true of Christ is true of those who are in His Body (which I believe is the Churh). I believe that our water baptism is a symbol/representation of our salvation. The one in Rom. 6 is a spiritual baptism where the Holy Spirit places us "in Christ" at the point of our redemption.
2 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | sharp | 9478
Scripture stresses the importance of baptism (water and Spirit). Rom. 6 is refering to the complete new birth. "How shall we, that are dead to sin," we die out to sin when we repent (Christ died on the cross). "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:" water baptism is our burial Col. 2:12 "...Buried with him in baptism,"(Jesus was buried). "that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." the Holy Ghost raises us in to our new life (Jesus rose from the dead). The gospel is the death, burial and ressurection. Col. 2:12 "2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." We must have our death-repentance, burial-water baptism and ressurection-born of the Spirit. Sharp |
