1 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | Morant61 | 80480
Greetings Samantha! May I ask two quick questions? 1) What is the relationship in Eph. 2:8-10 between faith and works? This is a crucial question. Paul makes it very clear that we are not saved by works. However, v. 10 also makes it very clear that faith does result in works. So, I don't see any contradiction between Paul and James if one sees the relationship as follows: 1) Faith first, 2) Resulting in salvation, 3) Followed by good works. However, there is a contradiction if we try to say the relationship is as follows: 1) Faith first, 2) Resulting in works, 3) Resulting in salvation. 2) What is James talking about in James 2? James makes it very clear if we look at the context. Consider the following verses: James 2:14 - "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, ??Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,? but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not ccompanied by action, is dead. 18 But someone will say, ??You have faith; I have deeds.? Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do." What is the context of this entire passage? James is arguing against those who "CLAIM" to have faith, but do nothing to demonstrate that they have faith. They leave the hungry hungry. They leave the naked naked. James says, "I will show you my faith by what I do". The context of this passage is not about salvation at all. This is where I think people make a critical mistake. Many try to turn James 2 into a discussion about how one gets saved, when in fact James is talking about how one who is saved should live. Thus, there is no contradiction between James and Paul. James is saying exactly what Eph. 2:10 says. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Oh, I'm sorry. The books of James and Romans show that having an obedient faith in God [not in works] is what harmonizes this doctrine. Just an observation. You tend to be very short with people. It may be the medium, but you are coming through as hostile. If not, my apologies. - Samantha Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, Be Baptized Romans 10:9,10; 6:3-5 |

Samantha ... I am sorry that I come across as being hostile. However, there are some that say something that is not Biblical. I think you want Romans 10:15-13, 9-10 ... except be baptized, in water. I do not see it as a requirement to being saved. Searcher |

Thank you, but we will have to disagree. Wouldn't your point here also mean that repentance wasn't a requirement to be saved? Oh well. - Samantha Hear because faith comes through hearing. Believe because God loves you. Repent because Jesus died for sin. Confess because it is good news. Be Baptized to be united with Christ. Stay faithful 'til death and you will receive the crown of life. |

7 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | Searcher56 | 81256
Scripture ... Mar 10:38-39, Luk 12:50, Rom 6:3ff ... Samantha, I said WATER baptism was not a requirement to being saved. When we are saved, we automatically are baptized into Christ, which isn't water baptism. Romans 6:3ff is linked to what He said (Mar 10:38-39, Luk 12:50). Was He talking about water baptism? I doubt it. Do not presume. Repentance is needed according to Acts 2:38. If you read Tim's or my posts on this, we point out that water baptism is not required. We also show that Acts 10:44-48 supports our view. You said "Stay faithful 'til death and you will receive the crown of life" ... does that mean if I ever am not faithful I will lose my crown ... and if I lose my crown, will I no longer be saved?
