1 | Imputed sin | Rom 5:12 | srbaegon | 63363
There are three views of imputed sin (Adam's sin is reckoned to each person) that I have found: 1) It's an unbiblical concept. 2) Imputed sin leads to spiritual death. 3) Imputed sin leads only to physical death. The first I reject immediately. The debate I've seen is between 2 and 3 (more logical to me). How do you see it? Steve |

2 | Imputed sin | Rom 5:12 | beensetfree | 63376
Most interesting question. I've never heard of imputed sin leading to either spiritual or physical death, but only to both. Would it not be so, especially looking at the Gen. 3 event? Our separation from God is spiritual (hid themselves from Him) but also physical (banished from the garden by Him). This is also my understanding of reading Martin Luther's thoughts on this and imputed righteousness. Perhaps I am understanding and reading wrong. I will be interested to see the thread of this discussion.

Hello beensetfree You are correct about number 2. So to restate the question... There are three views of imputed sin (Adam's sin is reckoned to each person) that I have found: 1) It's an unbiblical concept. 2) Imputed sin leads to spiritual and physical death. 3) Imputed sin leads only to physical death. 4 | Imputed sin | Rom 5:12 | John Reformed | 63378
Hi Steve, Is there any scriptural support for View 3? John |

5 | Imputed sin | Rom 5:12 | srbaegon | 63445
Hello John The scriptural support given is Romans 5:12-14. Since this passage is speaking of physical death as coming from Adam and that sin was not accounted before the Law, there was of necessity some sense of sin being transfered from Adam to the rest of mankind. Imputed sin is thus distinguished from inherited sin (our sin nature) by which we suffer spiritual death. Steve |

Steve, "Imputed sin is thus distinguished from inherited sin (our sin nature) by which we suffer spiritual death." I am not sure I understand the distinction you are trying to make. Could you please elaborate? Emmaus |

7 | Imputed sin | Rom 5:12 | srbaegon | 63464
Hello Emmaus I can try. From Rom 5:12-14 the short answer is that there was a common problem from Adam forward which caused physical death. However, sin was not accounted because there was no Law, yet death reigned. Therefore, Adam's sin must have been imputed or counted to all men for all to die physically. Inherited sin, which we get from our parents (Psalm 51:5), is our sin nature. It's part of the birthing process. We can't get away from it. We sin because we are sinners, so we get spiritual death. I would recommend reading the web pages recommended by Sir Pent in posting #63450 and another in my response to him. Steve |

8 | Imputed sin vs. sin nature-the same? | Rom 5:12 | beensetfree | 63491
Okay, now I'm really confused. :-) Can someone explain the statement "Inherited sin, which we get from our parents (Psalm 51:5), is our sin nature" versus "Adam's sin must have been imputed or counted to all men for all to die physically." Is it not true that both of these are the same? Imputed sin and sin nature? Sin was imputed to us by Adam and thus became our nature. No? Thanks for any help in clarifying this. (I'll also check out the two recommended websites.) Always His, Beensetfree |

9 | Imputed sin vs. sin nature-the same? | Rom 5:12 | Scribe | 63513
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: The idea of all being sinners is not hard for us to understand. Because we are well aware of the fact tha all have sinned. Now consider this last part of the verse and read it again. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: for that all have sinned, in other words death passed upon all becuase all have sinned. We all know that babies go to heaven. So it is obvious to us that though they have inherited a sin cursed form of the perfected body soul and mind originally created; that imperfection that is part of them (getting sick, etc); they are still considered innocent of sin as in that definition of sin called "sin is the transgression of the law" they are going to heaven and their salvation is bought by the redemptive work of the Cross even thought they do not have the conscience to act upon it. Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. It is possible that the ideas of "sin nature" have become a little more mystical than they need be. The idea of man being born imperfect into an imperfect world that was ruined and ravaged by death on degradation and that all nature is cursed with this downward trend toward death from the moment we are born is the idea. When it says all have sinned it means that every person that lived long enough to choose between the good and evil has choosen evil. Some did repent and learned how to choose good even in the OT but they all choose evil at some point. A baby that has not yet reached the age of knowing to choose good or evil; (and there is such an age) Isaiah 7:16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings. if the baby dies before this time, they are not judged as sinners who resisted the Spirit of God on their conscience.. Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. They are coverd by the Grace of God and the Work of Christ to "redeem man from the curse" so that they also inherit that perfect body and perfect redemption, that those that are old enough to put faith in Christ can choose by faith. |
