1 | Can a toddler go to heaven? | Rom 3:23 | John Reformed | 77003 | ||
Sorry Tim, 1 cor 2:14 is much too strong in it's language for me to accept that it is describing christians. Regardless of the extent of their immaturity, they still have the Spirit indwelling them, and I am sure that you know the scope of His ministry to the saints. Paul says that in order for a person to properly appraise the things of God, he must have the Spirit of God.(See vv11,12). John |

Dear John, What is Paul talking about in 1 Corinthians 2;12,13? Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words." 1 Corinthians 2 I believe Paul is talking about the inspiration of Scripture. No one knows the mind of God like the Spirit. So Paul and the other prophets received the Spirit from God. With the help of the Holy Spirit, spiritual thoughts were translated into spiritual words: the epistle. What we have in the Bible is the end result of that process. Paul's message to the Corinthians is authoritative because he has received the Spirit of God. What about the natural man? This person corresponds with what Paul talks about in Romans 8, and the two minds. One mind is set on the things of the flesh, and another mind is set on the things of the Spirit. It's a choice. "For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit." -Romans 8:5 The Holy Spirit does not make our spirit conform, but it confirms or testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. - Romans 8:15 Because Paul's mind was set on the things of the Spirit, even though he did things he hated (Romans 7), there was life for him. Through faith, the righteous requirement of the law is accomplished. But for the mind that is set on the things of the flesh, death is promised. Good day. |

Hi Tim, What is your understanding of: 1 Cor 3:1-2 "And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2. I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able," He says that because of their immaturity it was needfull for him to speak to them AS to "men of the flesh". He does not say they ARE "men of flesh". I believe an important distinction is made here in v.1! In v.2 he says they were able to recieve milk but not meat because they were infants "in Christ". The natural man of flesh cannot even recieve the milk because the milk (the absolute basics of the gospel) is one of the thigs that comes from God which must be spiritually discerned. (For this reason calvinists, such as myself, say that spiritual regeneration preceeds the natural man's ability to place his faith in Christ). What say Ye? (sorry...I'm a hopeless romantic) John Reformed |

Greetings John! Is this addressed to me or to Disciplerami? Either way, I'll respond to Ye! :-) Verse one actually uses the term 'as' for all three phrases: - as spiritual - as fleshly - as babes in Christ. However, verse 3 does use a slightly different adjective, 'sarkikos', to describe them. But, in verse 3 it does not say that they are 'as' fleshly, but it says that they are 'still fleshly or carnal'. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
