1 | replacement theoplogy is incorrect? | Rom 11:25 | EdB | 139241
Replacement Theology is basically the teaching that the church has replaced the Children of Israel in God's eyes. The church then by default inherits all the promises made to Children of Israel from Abraham forward. In effect the promises including the promise land (Israel) no longer belongs to the Jew but instead to the church. This is stretched to the point of absurdity by saying if you have something in your way (a Jericho) you need to walk around it seven times (actually the children of Israel walked around Jericho 13 times) and God will collapse it before you. Or if you want something walk around it and everywhere your feet touch it will be yours. Deuteronomy 11:24. Most never consider the object of their desire may be already owned by a Christian or that their desire for it is a fleshly desire. The teaching is further carried forward, by saying, since we are no longer under the law all the consequences of disobedience that God spoke to the Children of Israel are not inherited. This sounds correct logically but as we read God's promises to Israel most are conditional and require action on their part. Also we are still called to live righteous and holy before the Lord. The biggest problem with this teaching besides being utterly untrue is that tends to breed contempt for Jews. Most (not all) 'replacement theology' teachers very indirectly place the blame for Jesus' crucifixion on the Jew. Emphasizing God’s desire to bless the church and abandon the Children of Israel. While is true we are spiritually adopted into the lineage of Abraham upon salvation the church is one member of the family and the Children of Israel is another. We have relationship with God as did the Children of Israel but just like in any family once a new child is born it does not replace the others. You can make and keep promises to your son and make and keep different promises to your daughter and still love them equally. God’s promise to Abraham was eternal and I believe the Book of Revelation is about God’s completion of that promise (covenant) Again this is an over simplification of a very complicated concept. Replacement theology is well thought out and cleverly framed to deceive many. EdB |

Thanks. I didn't realize there was such an absurd doctrine out there. I would have to say that anyone who believes in replacement theology has been greatly deceived indeed.

Be careful what you call an error; particularly when you have not taken the time to listen to someone who holds such a position. How often I have myself judged a doctrine or teaching to be false only to later take it up in humility? Often, and I’m sure more in the future. MJH |
