Bible Question:
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. You quoted Heb 11:16 "Abraham was seeking what we as Christians should be seeking a heavenly homeland." I answered, that it is first a restoring of the Kingdom here on earth, for 1 thousand years, then it will be both Matt 6:10 "..in earth as it is in heaven". Revelation 21:2,3 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming DOWN from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is WITH men, and he will dwell WITH THEM and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. Psalm 37:9,11,22 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. 22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. |
Bible Answer: Hi there He-Man.... I agree with Searcher and Brad. Frankly, because of this problem in your posts, I stopped looking at them -- maybe I'm just dense. Actually, I only looked at *this* one because Brother Brad posted. Bible study is bringing out the plain meaning of a text as it was intended to mean to those to whom it was written. This is called exegesis. One definition of hermeneutics is the application of sound exegesis to our lives in the here and now. What we are trying to do in this forum is set that meaning (and occassionally the application) as clearly and unambiguously as possible before one another. We prayerfully do this so that we might grow in knowledge of, obedience to, and desire for our Lord. In this process we question one another. Sometimes we even challange one another. This Socratic method -- although it may sometimes sound a bit polemic -- is valuable. It helps us to examine more closely what we believe. This kind of contending over the scriptures is a very old, very important process. As iron sharpens iron, the net result is that we become better servants to the Lord. In Him, Doc |
