1 | Defending themselves or accusing Jesus? | John 8:41 | EdB | 229315 | ||
Biblicalman I forgot to mention that a unwed Jewish woman was considered Niddah or unclean until they perform a Mikvah a ritual cleansing (full immersion). For a married woman this is done 7 days after her monthly cycle. However unmarried Jewish women don't perform a Mikvah until immediately preceding their marriage. This was done only before marriage since there would be no need otherwise and thus it was a form of protection that helped prevent rape, incest and fornication. To have a sex with a woman that didn't do Mikvah would make the man unclean. |

Ed Thank you for your information. No doubt you will provide me with the chapters and verses in Scripture that speak of this situation? Post-1st century Jewish ceremonies tell us nothing about the times of Jesus and before. They developed after the fall of Jerusalem. Furthermore there are those who claim that the Mikvah when it was introduced was performed immediately after the betrothal. Perhaps then you would provide evidence for what you say that excludes that possibility? best wishes. |
