1 | What about John 14:15? | John 3:16 | welldigger | 63887
I agree, according to the scriptures, Jesus is the way God made to obtain eternal life. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of *JESUS CHRIST* of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED. (Acts 4:10-12) And from *JESUS CHRIST*, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and WASHED US FROM OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BLOOD, (Revelation 1:5) But what about this scripture? If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15) |

2 | What about John 14:15? | John 3:16 | Ray | 63979
Hi welldigger, Although this is a duplicate question, I will be happy to answer it also while considering the verses we have introduced to each other. But first let me talk about "the way God made to obtain eternal life" that you have written. It is true that we have a "way" and a path to walk as Christians. But the Way, the Truth, and the Life was not made, but was only begotten. One might say that He is Eternal Life and offers us eternal life. He is the Way and offers a path to walk. The way that Paul offered in 1 Corinthians 12:31, "a still more excellent way", is the way of love. And that is the way that Christ commands of us also; that is, to love God and our neighbors. Paul's still more excellent way sounds like the verse I wrote about in this thread, 1 Thessalonians 4:1. That talks about excelling still more in the way, and in the "instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God..." I mentioned Hebrew 11:6 and you have mentioned Revelation 1:5. Hebrews says that we "must believe that (He) is; Revelation says, "Grace to you and peace, from (Him) who is..." I noticed that in your post to Hank that you recognize and know that Jesus is the Son of God, even God Himself. And again, I would say that He is the Eternal Life. And we give the message of this Life. We hope for eternal life and this is a faithful Word. Titus 3:8. As far as John 14:15 is concerned, we might compare it to Philippians 2:13 where it tells us that God is at work in us, "both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing; that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world..." It goes on and tells us to hold fast to the word of life. All of these things suggest to me that we have the Word and the word (message, Scriptures, Bible, witness), we have the Life and eternal life, we have the Man and the holy offspring, we have the Holy Spirit and the holy spirit. I think that for this thread concerning John 3:16 that we need to believe in (Him). That is, belief in the God who loved the world and who is the (Light) of the world. John 3:20, John 8:12, John 9:5, Job 33:30. From the heart, Ray |

3 | What about Matthew 19:16-19 | John 3:16 | welldigger | 65107
Are you saying that it is not required to keep the commandments in order to have eternal life? But what about this scripture: And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, WHAT GOOD THING SHALL I DO, THAT I MAY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but IF THOU WILT ENTER INTO LIFE, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matthew 19:16-19) |

5 | What about Matthew 19:16-19 | John 3:16 | spiritualair | 65130
Searcher, are you saying that Jesus LIED here, in order to make a different point elsewhere in the chapter, or do you believe that when God/Jesus answer this man's question that the truth is being spoken, i.e. "if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments" ?? spiritualair |

6 | What about Matthew 19:16-19 | John 3:16 | Searcher56 | 65288
Scriptural Context ... Matthew 19:16-30 ... The man SAID he kept the commandments ... then Jesus had him do one more thing. READ THE CONTEXT. |

7 | What about Matthew 19:16-19 | John 3:16 | spiritualair | 65303
Since the "man" is just a man, and is not Jesus/God, therefore COULD lie, when he SAID that he kept the commandments, including "love thy neighbor as thyself"(verse 19), is it not possible or even probable that he LIED in SAYING that he kept them, meaning that he never broke any? JESUS, being God, knowing EVERYTHING and knowing that that man actually wasn't keeping "love thy neighbor as thyself" proved to that man by asking him to "sell all that he has, and give to the poor" that the rich young ruler WAS NOT in fact keeping that commandment, because if you love your neighbor as much as you love yourself, then if you have ANYTHING more than what your neighbor has, and there's always somebody without something then YOU won't have ANY possessions, because you will have given them to your neighbor. To see this more clearly, please read again Matthew 19:19-22: "Honour thy father and thy mother: and, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF. The young man SAITH unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, GO AND SELL THAT THOU HAST, AND GIVE TO THE POOR, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions." WHY did he go away sorrowful? Jesus told him to love thy neighbor as thyself when he told him to sell all that he has, so it seems that this man did NOT keep the commandments that Jesus said in keeping them, that a person could "have eternal life" (see matthew 19:16). He broke one of them, therefore did NOT keep them, therefore would not get the reward that Jesus promised of eternal life. In love and truth, Spiritualair |

Searcher, it seems by what you have been saying, that you are DISAGREEING with the comments I've made so far about Matthew 19. If God has enlightened you about something that I, or anyone else should see, why don't you share it with us? And if you disagree, then out of love for my soul, wouldn't you want to point out something SPECIFIC in order to HELP me see more clearly? For, in merely saying that YOU read the whole context, and as I have also, and don't yet see how the scriptures and comments that I have brought up would be in any way disagreeing with the context, then would you be so kind as to enlighten me and any others that may need some help?
