1 | How to go to heaven and avoid hell? | John 3:16 | welldigger | 63755
What should a person do to please God so that God will allow that person's soul to go to heaven (have eternal life) as opposed to sending that soul to hell (eternal death)?
2 | How to go to heaven and avoid hell? | John 3:16 | EdB | 63756
Welldigger There is nothing you can to to please God enough to forgive all your sins. Salvation is received by grace freely given to all that believe and trust in Jesus Christ for their salvation. There is no other way!! First you have to realize you need salvation, then you have to believe Jesus Christ provided that salvation by his death on the cross. Then you have to trust in that belief and rest easy. Read these scriptures Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 10:9-13 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." Please let us know if you have any questions If you haven't already I pray right now you will stop and ask Jesus Christ into your heart. EdB |

3 | What about John 14:15? | John 3:16 | welldigger | 63885
I agree, according to the scriptures, Jesus is the way God made to obtain eternal life. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of *JESUS CHRIST* of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED. (Acts 4:10-12) And from *JESUS CHRIST*, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and WASHED US FROM OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BLOOD, (Revelation 1:5) But what about this scripture? If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15) |

4 | What about John 14:15? | John 3:16 | EdB | 63896
Welldigger I'm not a proponent of cheap grace! I believe salvation comes with a cost and that cost is explained in Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, [12] teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, [13] looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Grace brings with it some responsibility that too many tend to forget today. 5 | Are you saying that you obey? | John 3:16 | welldigger | 63943
Are you saying that you obey? That is, are you saying that you do keep the commandments ("keep" meaning NEVER break any commandments)?
6 | Are you saying that you obey? | John 3:16 | Searcher56 | 63949
Scripture ... 1 John 1:8-10 "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us." We all sin, though our goal is to obey. |

7 | How come you don't owe the payment? | John 3:16 | welldigger | 65109
You probably have read this scripture: For THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) Wages equals payment, right? So, if the payment for sin is the death of a soul in hell, then how come you won't have to pay for those sins that you committed by the death of your soul in hell? |

9 | Were you not included in that statement | John 3:16 | welldigger | 65127
I am just giving you an opportunity to praise the Lord Jesus Christ and confess Him as your Saviour. Isn't He the one that the scriptures themselves say paid the payment for the sins of the whole world? And he is the **propitiation for our sins**: and not for ours only, but also **FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD**. (1 John 2:2) Were you not included in that statement? |

11 | Context and exegesis with regard to what | John 3:16 | welldigger | 65347
What do you mean by "remember the context and exegesis" with regard to the scriptures I have brought to your attention? Are you saying in 1 John 2:2 where it says that Jesus is the propitiation for the whole world's sins is not saying that Jesus died for your sins? Or are you saying that Romans 6:23 does not say that the wages of sin is death? Sorry, I am confused as to what you are talking about.
12 | Context and exegesis with regard to what | John 3:16 | Searcher56 | 65352
If you do not read the context, you can be misled. What is the context of 1 John 2:2? What is the context of Romans 6:23? Provide all three - paragraph (around the verse), book (which will give more understanding why the paragraph and book was written) ... and cross reference other Biblical text (use a lexicon, the English may lead you astray). When you get done, please let me know ... you can even answer your own questions. Another problem is the exegesis of the passage. We must let the passage, the whole Bible, speak for itself. We cannot have our own ideas and force Scripture to meet our thoughts. We even let "experts" dictate our thoughts. Searcher |
