1 | Is Jesus God? | John 1:1 | jg8ball | 1311
Can anyone show me any passages that show that Jesus is God? A friend of mine believes that Jesus is the Son of God but not God (and the Holy Spirit is the action of God but not God). I've shown him many verses but most can also be interpreted as separate individuals (for example: I baptize you in the name of the Father and in the Son, and in the Holy Spirit could be interpreted as baptizing in the name of the three separate entities.) I've also shown him the classic John 1:1 and similar verses but he interprets it at Jesus and God think alike, have the same mission, similar in nature, etc... Is there something in the Bible that very simply and cleary says that the Three are one? To me there are many verses that state this clearly, but to him, they state something completely different. |

Your friend may not be able to be convinced by you. All you can do is plant the seeds, and let God do the enlightening. I have found a few verses that you may feel are helpful. I use the KJV, and I'm not sure how other versions read, but here they are; Exodus 3:13-14. "And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Isreal, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." John 8:58, "Jesus said unto them, 'Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was I am'." These might help, but if he still debates it, you might have to let God cultivate the seeds that have been planted by you and perhaps others. Do you trust the Lord enough to stop trying so hard to convince. We all have free wills, even after we're saved. I John 1:9 says we have the free will to ask God to forgive us when we slip up. I could go off on a tangent but, I'll spare you! ;-)

Greetings, faith_hope_love. After reading your user profile and your five posts thus far, I'm convinced that your user name is well chosen: your contributions mirror what must be a humble and sincere Christian faith, hope, and love. Though we differ on some theological points that I'd place in the second rank (e.g., I'm not charismatic), I'm happy to say, in the words of Huckleberry Finn, "That ain't no matter" because I have been touched by your writing that flows so freely and unassumingly from a heart that has so obviously been touched by the Master. So, welcome, and may God continue to work His work in you. --Hank
