1 | Is Jesus God? | John 1:1 | jg8ball | 1311
Can anyone show me any passages that show that Jesus is God? A friend of mine believes that Jesus is the Son of God but not God (and the Holy Spirit is the action of God but not God). I've shown him many verses but most can also be interpreted as separate individuals (for example: I baptize you in the name of the Father and in the Son, and in the Holy Spirit could be interpreted as baptizing in the name of the three separate entities.) I've also shown him the classic John 1:1 and similar verses but he interprets it at Jesus and God think alike, have the same mission, similar in nature, etc... Is there something in the Bible that very simply and cleary says that the Three are one? To me there are many verses that state this clearly, but to him, they state something completely different. |

This is how I look at the question: God, the Father is father. Jesus, the Son is son of the Father. If the father is God, does that make his son God? Well, if my father is a Booker, that makes me a Booker. I'm not the most high Booker but I am a Booker none the less. Likewise, if Jesus's father is God (and he is), that makes him a God. Not The Most High God, but still a God. Just how I see it. :) If my view needs correcting, just bring on the correcting tool (the Word of God). blessings to you all... :) |

Dear mbooker, Just out of curiosity, what is your background? In answer to your question, the Gospel of John is a good read from the standpoint of portraying the Diety of Christ. In John 1:1 we have..." and the Word was God". Jesus made a rather peculiar statement in John 2:19, ..."Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." In verse 21 it says, "He was speaking of the temple of His body". As only God can raise the dead, who is Christ claiming to be? In John 8:58 Jesus stated..."before Abraham was, I AM!" A direct claim to be God. The same ego ami as in Exodus 3:14 when God told Moses who sent him. We also have Thomas in John 20:25 "doubting" that his fellow disciples had seen the Lord. In verse 28 we have his proclamation (to Jesus)..."my Lord and my God". Scripture gives many names of God.The unity and beauty of the Word of God is that Christ is undeniably God. Many other examples could be given. Certainly the Jews had no doubt as to Who Jesus was claiming to be, and the disciple Thomas recognized and proclaimed Him. Yours In Christ, BradK |

Hi BradK Not sure what you mean by 'what background am I' but I grew up in what I guess you would call a traditional baptist church. At the age of 24 (I think it was 24 :) ), I made my confession that Jesus is Lord and that I believed in my heart that God raised him from the dead. Since then, I've been growing up in Him. I wasn't really asking a question. I guess I was trying to express to anyone who may be a JW, that I don't put Jesus above God the Father (after talking with some JWs, I was left with the impression that they believe we place Jesus in a higher place than God the Father). I do believe Jesus Christ is God. And I do believe that God the Father and God the Son are one (John 10:30) and thus I believe in the diety of Christ. I hope my post does not sound as if I am disputing that or the truth that Jesus is God. I guess I was trying to make a distinction between God the Father and God the Son. Hope I satisfied your curiosity :) Abba Father bless and keep you... |

mbooker, it's interesting to note that you grew up in a Baptist church. Are you Baptist still?.... Every old hand on the forum knows I'm Baptist (SBC). I'm not only Southern Baptist but I'm about as Southern as you can get and still speak English! As Southern as grits, turnip greens, and corn pone, that's what I am! By the way, why not add a few words about yourself in the user profile? And, before I go, I want to second kalos' post regarding your fine attitude that you have displayed on this forum. You must be Southern, too; you have such genteel manners :-) --Hank

:) Thanks Hank for your words of encouragement about my attitude. I humbly say 'thank you' and as I'm sure you already know, all the glory belongs to GOD. His Word is 'growing me up' :) I Peter 2:2 I want to understand the truth of God's word and I want the body of Christ to 'come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:' Eph 4:13. And if I've err from the truth, I want to know and be corrected. Correction(chastening) may hurt the pride, but 'nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby'. You gave me a GOOD laugh with 'You must be Southern, too; you have such genteel manners'. A merry heart does good like a medicine! If Florida is considered the south, then I guess I am southern :). Now, to answer your question. Am I still Baptist? I guess you could say that. :) I still go to a Baptist church. One thing I'm not clear on is where the different demonination came from. But I guess that would be another subject entirely! :) I'll go to my profile and add a bit about myself. I tend to come and go on this site, but I do look forward to dialoguing with you and my other brothers and sisters in Christ. Abba Father bless you and keep you. |
