1 | What is the biblical def of apostle | Luke 6:13 | Country Girl | 133228 | ||
Just my one and a half cents' worth. There's a couple more points that could be thrown in: First: Acts 1:20 "For it is written in the book of Psalms, 'LET HIS HOMESTEAD BE MADE DESOLATE, AND LET NO ONE DWELL IN IT'; and, 'LET ANOTHER MAN TAKE HIS OFFICE.' Acts 1:21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us- Apparently, these men agreed with Peter that they must fulfill the prophecy. Second: 1 Cor 15:6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 1 Cor 15:7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 1 Cor 15:8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 1 Cor 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 1 Cor 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. Apparently from vs 8, Paul didn't consider himself a legitimate apostle so one could argue that he is the odd man out and Mathias was part of the proper 12. Ultimately, I don't really think this basic question at the beginning of this thread can be answered Biblically this side of Judgment Day but I just want to try and complete the picture. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |

Hi, This would be my half-cent worth. Paul, in calling himself the least of all apostles, was nonetheless acknowledging his apostleship. He considers himself not fit to called an apostle, and then acknowledges God's grace that he is an apostle. That's how I read it, but I am not about to be dogmatic about this. Love in Christ, Mark |
