Subject: What is the biblical def of apostle |
Bible Note: Just my one and a half cents' worth. There's a couple more points that could be thrown in: First: Acts 1:20 "For it is written in the book of Psalms, 'LET HIS HOMESTEAD BE MADE DESOLATE, AND LET NO ONE DWELL IN IT'; and, 'LET ANOTHER MAN TAKE HIS OFFICE.' Acts 1:21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us- Apparently, these men agreed with Peter that they must fulfill the prophecy. Second: 1 Cor 15:6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 1 Cor 15:7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 1 Cor 15:8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 1 Cor 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 1 Cor 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. Apparently from vs 8, Paul didn't consider himself a legitimate apostle so one could argue that he is the odd man out and Mathias was part of the proper 12. Ultimately, I don't really think this basic question at the beginning of this thread can be answered Biblically this side of Judgment Day but I just want to try and complete the picture. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |
