Subject: What is the biblical def of apostle |
Bible Note: I account for it in this way: 1) The disciples were ordered to go and wait. They were not do anything until the promise of the Father (Acts 1:4) 2) It was Peter's idea -- and Peter was not known for proposing good ideas -- to pick a 12th disciple while they should have been waiting. 3) Lots were cast and Matthias was chosen. Which of the other disciples were chosen by anything other than Christ's explicit election? 4) Matthias walks off the pages of scripture in verse 26 never to be heard from again. 5) Christ made his choice of Paul as an apostle, not Matthias. 6) Revelation 21:14 says the names of the "12" apostles will be written on the foundation of the city foursquare. 11 disciples plus Matthias plus Paul equals 13. Ergo, one too many. Of course, this is only my humble opinion. |
